I still hope there's a backstory here for either Ursula or Morgana.

It might be Morgana, since the only introduction we get in tlm2 is
sebastian saying:''Morgana, Ursula's crazy sister!''

Now, by comparing to pics below ,which do you think Marina's most likely to be IF she's not a ''stand-alone'' character

I have to say, that it would be a first if there was a backstory for a sequel character like Marina, but hey, they might surprise us

While I would prefer Marina to turn out as Ursula, I couldn't be sure if she were Ursula or Morgana (that's assuming that she's not just Marina at this point). I think she's Ursula because of: similar expressions, backstory in the palace, same color scheme, has eels, kind of short-ish (not tall like Morgana), worries over her vanity, uses magic. But it could be Morgana because: she's kind of silly, has a personal vendetta with Sebastian, the original sneak peak had a dark picture of Morgana, and the fact that she's not very successful at being villainous.

^very good point. Judging from the previews so far, Marina is way too silly to be Ursula.

Anyhow it's clear she's not either. And how she'd transform into Ursula or Morgana in only a few years seems a little  I think Ursula and Triton went waaaaay back. Maybe at time of Ariel's birth.

she doesn act or look old enough to be their mother. Espically since she is there when all the princesses are in their early-mid teens, which would have Ursula and Morgana at already an old age. Plus unless she bred with a squid person or whatever we call Ursula and Morganas type, then dont know how they popped out like that. Ofcourse magic could be involved with Marinna getting fins but it seems very unlikely.

I think we have to assume she ISN'T Ursula OR Morgana.
She's a new character.

Making some points & giving some general thoughts...

About Marina being Ursula: In the original film, Ursula says "in my day, we had fantastical feasts- back when I lived in the palace" implying that Ursula was living in the palace before Ariel's "day" or time. However, Marina would not have been living in the palace if the only reason why she was there was to watch over the girls (presumably after Athena died). Therefore, Ursula must've been around much earlier.

About the release: I've been watching a lot of Disney on DVD and I noticed that with all the current releases, there's always a Disney Channel star or a regular singer/celebrity that sings either a cover (for the classics) or an original song (for the sequels, etc).

In TLM, it was Ashley Tisdale's cover of Kiss the Girl, Aladdin had both Nick Lachey & Jessica Simpson's cover of A Whole New World and Clay Aiken's cover of Proud of Your Boy.

Cinderella had the Disney Channel Circle of Stars (or "Friends" as they like to be called now) singing (or "singing") a cover of A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes, Cinderella 3 had Hayden Panettiere singing an original song, I Still Believe, Tarzan & Jane had Mandy Moore's Singing to the Song of Life, Hunchback 2 had Jennifer Love Hewitt sing I'm Gonna Love You, even Enchanted had Carrie Underwood brought in to sing Ever Ever After.

So with that said, my point is... do you think that they'll bring someone in to sing something? I noticed that with the sequels it's an original song, but with the platinums it's a cover. Therefore... what if one of the four songs listed... is going to be sung (or "sung") by a Disney Channel star?! That would so ruin it, IMO.

Thats true. I think Ursula was kicked out shortly after Triton inhierited the throne, early on in his marriage to Athena, or right before Athena became pregnant with Attina.

And while im talking about Attina...if all the sisters are about a year apart, that would make Attina around 21/22 in TLM/series. Ofcourse age is probably different under the sea, but I wonder around what age merpeople or rather royalty get married/expected to get married.

And I also wonder what became of all of the sisters during LM2

They probably read the script and turned down the parts.
