I certainly hope Aladdin isn't getting screwed out. It's much more deserving than Alice in Wonderland.

I guess Disneykid and I are the only ones who'd prefer and Alice platinum to an Aladdin one. Just mix the laserdisc features with the masterpiece edition, add a making of featurette and an audio commentary and it would be perfect!

I would certainly not be opposed to using the remaining LD bonus features to give "Alice" a superior two-disc DVD release. It's a shame the only way we can get a two-disc anything is to have it be bumped up to Platinum status.

However, I still find "Aladdin" to be a superior film. It boggles my mind as to why Disney would opt to release a movie that received mediocre reviews and did okay business as opposed to a huge success on Platinum DVD.

The German Disney DVD website has a time line featuring all the Platinum Edition titles, and it appears that "Aladdin" is missing from the time line.

Great find Simba3! Not only that, but note that if you choose to view the list of the Platinum titles, Aladdin is omitted once again. But most importantly, the list includes Alice in Wonderland!

Well ... most people seem to think it's because its DVD sales were rather poor in comparison to the other Platinums. Logic to the businessman's wallet, I suppose.

It seems really odd to me that Disney would tak out such a large selling movie as Aladdin, and put Alice in Wonderland instead. I think Alice though really does deserve a platinum treatement. As much as Walt may have disliked it when it was released, it still has great animation and wild characters.

Well, that's why people assumed it sold so badly. But I disagree with that theory.

Personally I don't think Disney marketed Aladdin anywhere near as much as they did TLK the previous year (I know they didn't over here in the UK, can't speak fo the US). Apart from a few posters in bus shelters there was nothing really, I think I saw the TV advert once.

I still honestly think Alice is being added to the Spring slot before TLK's fall release and we'll see something else added to the line rather than Aladdin removed.

At least if it is removed it already had more bonus features that pretty much any other Platinum Edition and those should get ported to the Blu-Ray so unless they add loads to the Platinum Blu-Rays Aladdin will still be equal to (and probably surpass a few) in terms of content.

Well,there was some Aladdin and Jasmine products for the PE but not like the Lion King merchandise for the Lion King PE.
And Jasmine didn't got products like the Ariel and Cinderella merchandise when their PEs came or the merchandise Aurora will get next year for her Platinum Edition since the Princess line wasn't that way back then,and besides-She's a hero too but it's Aladdin's film really,he's the star,so making her merchandise is kinda problem but maybe they could make her merchandise with Aladdin (for example-In some merchandise she's alone and other she's with Aladdin).

I agree that it would make more sense to release all 14 (or 15 or whatever!) before going back to the beginning. But all evidence so far suggests that Pinocchio and Fantasia will be added to the Spring slots for Snow White and Beauty and the Beast so the cycle will start again before all the titles are actually released in the Platinum Collection.

Therefore until we know what’s happening in 2012 we can’t say for certain what’s happening with Aladdin. IF it has been dropped then 2012 will see Bambi and Cinderella released on Blu-Ray (maybe re-released on DVD) and the cycle repeat from there. However it is just as possible that another title (Dumbo, Pocahontas, Hunchback, Hercules, Tarzan. Lilo and Stitch, etc.) could be added to the line up for the Spring 2012 slot, Aladdin will be released in the Fall 2012 slot and the cycle will continue from there.

I’m honestly hoping that Aladdin remains a Platinum, it certainly deserves to be in the collection. However, if it is removed, at least Aladdin as arguably the best set of bonus features in the Platinum Collection so there’s no reason they won’t be ported over to Blu-Ray release and/or a DVD re-release.
