Ladies and gentlemen... PeterPanfan!

Best Film

Image: This seems to be one of the most...awaited categories each year. I don't want to drag this introduction out and torture everyone by talking... do I? Anyway, there are five nominees for "Best Film" this year. All films have received nothing but great reviews and all deserve to win. But alas, there can only be one winner at the end of the night.

The films nominated are:

Enchanted
Hairspray
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Ratatouille
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Two of the nominated films were made by Disney and Pixar. One was the fourth sequel to a critically acclaimed movie series. And the two others are musicals with fantastic costume designs and great music.

...And the winner is...

A hundred categories is quite a feat, so thanks to all of you for nomination, voting, and joining in on the fun. Thanks for PeterPanfan for presenting our big award this year and also to everyone else who volunteered as award presenters. Congratulations to all of the nominees and the winners. This has been fun for me and I hope it has been fun for all of you. See you back here in MM&TV Theatre next year!

Yay for Sweeney! And another great job Aaron on the awards! My only gripe is (and this isn't anyone in particular's fault) just the repetitiveness of some of the winners.

Aaron, please don't kill me, but I think Amy winning Best Female Pop Artist of all time (though she may very well have gotten the most votes) is just a little insane (especially up against Madonna). But that's easily due to the lack of voters.

Well I have to admit that Amy winning surprised me as well. While I'm happy about it, I honestly expected Madonna to win hands down. That category even received pretty decent voter participation. There are a lot of Amy Grant fans on this forum, which I'm sure had something to do with it (but then there are a lot of Madonna, Christina Aguilera, and Mariah Carey fans too). Just let me quickly say in Amy's defense that she is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, a major pop star with dozens of top 40 pop singles, including several #1s, and is responsible for numerous industry innovations. Billboard recently named her the best-selling female artist of the '80s and '90s. She's also had a career longer than any of the other nominees, dating back to the 1970s. All of that said, I don't pretend that she's had a bigger impact on music than Madonna -- at least not on mainstream pop music of the last 20 years -- but I think she is certainly one of the greatest female pop stars of all time, so it's not a huge stretch that she won. But it was nice to see someone other than the obvious choice take the prize (no offense to the many Madonna fans here!)

Oh, of course, I never meant to take anything away from Amy, it's just that, like you said, it was a surprise (somewhat lessened due to her constant wins) to me that she won.

Fantastic job running this, Aaron! You had more on your plate this year than in previous ceremonies, but you handled it just as well. Congrats to the winners (many of which I surprisingly agree with, and even most of the ones I don't I still enjoy).
