Saludos Amigos & Three Caballeros new on Disney DVD in A

It'd be a huge waste of money on the companies part to not put as much as they can on the Bluray releases. The production of the discs at this time is expensive and if they release it without putting enough stuff on the disc then people wont understand why they are buying a disc that holds up to 5 times the amount of content as the DVD and paying $10-$20 more. They would lose a good amount of income if they didn't load these upcoming releases.

Or, being as only a small percentage of people have bought into Blu-ray today, releasing a [close to] "bare bones" Blu-ray release now means that they can re-release it in a few years with even more stuff when Blu-ray is more mainstream.

I agree but even now the blue rays are pretty much exactly the same as the releases. Sure, they have 1 extra feature but so what? I hope blu ray crashes and burns like beta tapes. I've been talking with A LOT of film buffs world wide and most highly question the claim that blu ray is 6 times better in picture and sound than a DVD. It also depends on how large of a TV you have and what kind of screen you're using. Furthermore, your average consumer could care less about clearer picture and sound. Look at how long it took for DVD to become the standard format. I'd say the jump wasn't until 2003 or 2004. And it was only after the players became cheaper as well as the titles. My first DVD player was in the 180.00 range. Now they can be had for as little as 20.00 on a black friday sale. Wal*Mart sells a basic model for 30 all the time. A VCR always cost 60.00 and up. It was only after the stuff came down did your average person jump on board. These are the same people who don't care about widescreen either. In college I sold electronics and no one seemed to care that widescreen shows more picture. They all believed it cropped it if they weren't a film buff. The rest of the populace only bought into DVD when they were FORCED to after VHS was dropped by the studios. I have a hard time seeing that happen with DVD. They're going to have a hard time getting the average consumer to rebuy anything they already have on DVD. I'm only buying blu ray discs for films I don't have that offer something the DVD doesn't have. I have no player though.


I'm looking forward to this DVD year because most of my Disney collections will be near complete.

I don't see why they would, other than the fact that they both have musical titles. Saludos Amigos and the Three Caballeros are connected to each other (it was supposed to be a Latin-American Trilogy, but the third film was cancelled) and it makes sense that they are released together.

Amigos and Caballeros are definitely connected to each other. But I'd say it's not entirely wrong to say that so are MMM and MT. They were both "poor man's Fantasias" compiled from short segments of various length with musical theme - that were released in this form because Disney found it necessary to have some sort of animated feature on the market.

I would look forward to get these, because it's way better than my "Masterpiece" VHS copy, but it's really good. Those two films "Saludos Amigos" and "The Three Caballeros" came out during World War II after a series of cartoons produced for the war effort for buying war bonds and stuff during the war along with a classic WW2 short "Der Fuehrer's Face" with Donald Duck as a Nazi, excellent cartoon.

This is one great film to get.

I noticed today that it has been added to the list of upcoming DVD releases on the Disney Movie Rewards website. However, the film is only going to be worth 75 points, instead of 100. I think that it's kind of lame, but hopefully they will offer up double points for this release.

75 points is disappointing especially considering it is a double feature with bonuses. Even though the price is lower, presumably due to lack of demand, it's still a movie set worthy of the same number of points as most other dvds.

Found this site today that boasts a slanted picture of the cover art allowing us to see the spine. From the looks of this picture the spine will be blue and will have both titles listed. As for the picture, it appears that Goofy has made the spine for this double feature. I personally would have liked to have seen Donald, but oh well. I'm still really excited to add these films to my Disney collection.

DVD drives are in all the PCs nowadays, I mean, were there any PCs with VCRs built into them? DVDs are more versatile than VHS tapes. No wonder they're cheaper than VCRs

Since there's two movies I would think it would be 2-Discs, like The Parent Trap and Old Yeller, but knowing Disney and their ever cost cutting streak it will be one 1 disc.

A lot of people I know used DVD drives and PS2s as their first DVD players. I will agree that Blu-ray will be a tougher sale to the consumer than DVDs. DVDs were different than VHS and didn't require rewinding. That helped a lot. Widescreen was a problem for some people when it came to DVDs. I honestly think the Fullscreen releases helped. I know in my area we have 4 different places to rent movies. Two are Movie Gallerys so they carry Widescreen... However the other two only stock a Widescreen movie if there isn't a Fullscreen option. They are also the most popular rental places, so from my observations Fullscreen is sadly more popular here.

Still I might be in the minority, but I don't care if the Blu-ray release is the same as the DVD as far as features go. It has better picture and sound, and thats the main selling point in my opinion.

Anyway I don't have either of these yet, so I will be picking up this new double feature when it comes out.

I'm definitely buying this one. I don't own either of the films yet, and to get them both on one DVD for $14.99 is a pretty good deal. I'm not really interested in owning them for entertainment and replay value, but more as a collectors item and because they are DACs.
