Which characters would you give their own short cartoons?

I don't know who I'd pick. Shorts mainly rely on slapstick and sight gags, so we're looking for characters willing to fall flat on their face or be ridiculed. They aren't really "adventure stories". It's really just a comical character in a ridiculous situation.

Animal characters tend to be better for this type of thing so I'd go with someone like Mr. Toad or even a mythical creature like Elliott, Pete's Dragon.

Mr. Toad would be great for shorts! Can't believe I didn't think of that! But characters don't necessarily have to be the butt of the joke in shorts. Look at Bugs Bunny. He abuses the other characters around him.

I don't know if I'd use Elliott for a short because I just can't picture it, but I definitely would like to see him get an animated series or something.

Daisy Duck. I love her for being so bitchy in "mickey mouse works".

Sebastian had many funny shorts on "Raw Toonage" and "Marsupilami," so yeah, he could work.

I also love Daisy and always have, and I really liked her in the Mouseworks shorts!

slave2moonlight...when you say Disney's Gremlins, are you talking about the Gremlins movies (with Gizmo! ) or is there something else? An animated Gizmo and pre-watered/fed Gizmo buddies would be adorable!

Great ideas, if I had thought of them, I definitely would have included Jose Carioca and Panchito on my list! Though, Disney would probably feel Panchito was too much of a stereotype to use for new theatrical shorts... Ya never know though. They have him on the EPCOT boat ride now, but that's still within the context of the Mexico pavilion, not movie theaters across America. Another that would be great but I don't know if they'd do it would be Pecos Bill as the star of several shorts!

One thing I particularly loved about Mickey's Around the World in 80 Days was that it included Scrooge, if I remember correctly!

Anyway, as for the Gremlins, no, I don't mean Gizmo and the gang (though I'm a big fan of them too), I mean Disney's Gremlins. Back in the '40's, Walt was working with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory author Roald Dahl on a gremlins project that was going to be a feature film. What it ended up being was a storybook, a Lifesavers advertisement, a book and record, and not much more because Walt eventually felt the subject was too "wartime." The Looney Tunes ended up doing something similar by creating a Gremlin character that went up against Bugs Bunny once or twice. Anyway, since then, Disney Gremlin merchandise was considered highly collectible, but now that it has been revived recently with some collectible toys and a reprint of the book, the old stuff might not be as valuable (since folks can always get the new stuff...). Oh, and the only way the Gremlins have really been used besides in the stuff I mentioned was in the comics. One of the Gremlins, an older looking one with a gray moustache named Gus, starred in his own stories in Walt Disney Comics and Stories from time to time. I believe they were usually only one page and free of dialogue (except from the human characters on the military base).

Don't we have enough "protect the environmnet" or "stop global warming" crap? The Circle of Life show is decent enough, but that's as far as I'd like to see that go. I would like to see the three in a short though.

Trying to get answers people haven't said yet:

Chicken Little: He and Abby were the best part of an unwatchable Oscar ceremony, and he appears in parades quite a lot, but I would love to see more! He would be great in several shorts! Since Zach Braff has some time off Scrubs due to the Writer's Strike, it would be the perfect time to give us more Chicken!

Mr. Toad: Although not much material beyond Wind in the Willows, over 75% of Pooh's stuff isn't based on the source material, so I wish we could see more of him and the gang.

Professor Owl: His resume mostly consumes of Sing-A-Long videos, but I would love to see another short on the likes of Melody and Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom.

The "save the environment" shorts honestly get really, really annoying. While at Disney World's Animal Kingdom, I started not looking forward to any of the attractions and saying, "Let me guess. This will be about ONLY HUMANS CAN SAVE THE ANIMALS FROM THIS MOVIE! Please exit to your left after the performance has ended to watch Only Humans Can Save the Animals From That Other Movie."

I suppose Zazu does have potential since he had at least one short on the Timon and Pumbaa series.

I'm rather biased in favor of Zazu-type characters, but you're absolutely right.

And TinkerBell has her Pixie Preview shorts from the Return To Neverland DVD.
About the question-hmmm,Ariel's Sisters and the Seven Dwarfs (altought that in the film some of their parts are kinda annyoing (when they finds out that someone is in their house) but High Ho is good).
I whould have also said Flora,Founa and Merriweather but they got way too much attention in Sleeping Beauty even more then Aurora.
Maybe also Pip but i whould like to see a whole Enchanted series about Giselle's life in Andalasia before she met Edward.

I always thought Bernard and Bianca would be fun to watch for a TV series. They could solve crimes every week. I also think the villains could have a series where they try to take over Disney World. Atleast a Halloween special.

2.) The Three Pigs: As classic as characters can be; however, they only ever had FOUR stinkin' cartoons to themselves!!!

3.) Merlin from "Sword in the Stone" might be interesting...

4.) The Aristokittens. They starred in their own comic book for quite a while; it was basically cute, around-the-house type plots. Also, O'Malley and the Alley Cats had their own comic book. Usually, they were foils for Edgar. Good stuff!

5.) Roger Rabbit. Oh, yeah--how come they only did three of these??

I am 100% agree about Jiminy. Despite of his appearance in safety-type films and one of the episodes of "Wonderful World of Disney" (aka WWOC...Disneyland TV..but I would've preferred WWOD), I would SO like to see him in his own animated short series...well..because he's popular. Oh well...that's wishful thinking. *starts singiing "I'm A King of Wishful Thinking" while she's at it.

Another forgotten Disney character they could try to bring back is "Bucky Bug." He was in the comics too, and I believe he was inspired by the Silly Symphonies. I think the Gremlins would be the most interesting to see though, as far as bringing back little-known, oldschool characters.

Clarabelle Cow DEFINITELY needs a comeback after her appearance in "The Three Musketeers". I know she's in WAY LONGER than this, but I would like to see Clarabelle once in a while as well as Horace Horsecollar.
