Which characters would you give their own short cartoons?
Okay, one more question inspired by the new Goofy short that came out before National Treasure. Besides the obvious characters, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip N Dale, if you had the power and responsibility to select ten other characters from all of Disney's history to make stars of their own series of theatrical short cartoons, which 10 would you choose? I know they probably would never have 10 going at once, but play along. It's a new era of Disney shorts, and in addition to the usual stars of their own shorts, you get to make 10 new ones or revive the careers of some that only had a small number of shorts in the past... Who would they be? And keep in mind that these would be traditionally animated shorts. Any extra info you feel like giving about what you'd like to see them do or whatever would be cool to hear too.

Forgot to mention that these shorts will all be of the highest quality, of course.
As for me, the first ten I thought of were:
1. Roger Rabbit. I'd like to see him come back with some new shorts. A few would be the old Baby Herman formula, but most would be different or at least introduce a couple of new formulas. The shorts would include Baby Herman, Jessica, and Benny the Cab when appropriate, and possibly other characters seen in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, like the gorilla bouncer or weasels or whatever. A short where Roger is a sheriff in the old west might be fun, going up against a gang of weasels or something. Or maybe a short where he's a detective.
2. Scrooge McDuck. There probably wouldn't be very many Scrooge shorts, because I think it'd be hard to do Scrooge stories that worked with the short time frame, but I'd like them to do a couple at least, if only because he's my favorite cartoon character. Of course, he'd be joined by other characters like Donald and the boys, and Gyro Gearloose. I'd like to see it taken more from the comics this time. Probably wouldn't involve characters that were created just for DuckTales, like Launchpad or Gizmoduck. They would probably include characters like the Beagle Boys and Flintheart Glomgold though.
3. Disney's Gremlins. I think it'd be cool for Disney to finally do something with these characters. They'd be excellent foils for Donald Duck or Pluto, but that might take the focus off them too much.
4. Minnie and Daisy. I believe they did a few on Mouseworks/House of Mouse, and they were great. Why not do some for the bigscreen? They could be paired or separate.
5. Humphrey. Always loved Humphrey and would love to see some new ones!
6. Brer Rabbit. Ha, I don't think they'd have the guts to even do an awful, P.C. set of cartoons for Brer Rabbit, but what a great character he was, and ripe for shorts with all his animal friends! I suppose the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit shorts, if they do make some, will be something like this...
7. Scamp. The shorts would probably be much like the old Pluto shorts, but I'd like to see some good ones with a voiceless Scamp more based on the comics than the very flawed DTV sequel.
8. Tinker Bell. She's a favorite character of mine and I don't want her to only exist in CGI from now on...
9. Li'l Bad Wolf. They did one of these for House of Mouse (or Mouseworks), but with an updated character design. I'd rather he not have the updated clothes. I'd like all these shorts to have a vintage style/look to them, even if they are set in modern day.
10. Ludwig Von Drake. He's just a great character. Would love to see some sciency or just plain educational shorts in theaters hosted by Ludwig Von Drake.
I didn't select Oswald the Lucky Rabbit because there are rumors he might get some shorts anyway. As for the characters that would logically get new shorts, I'd like to see some of their less seen cohorts get some screen time too, like Morty and Ferdie in some Mickey shorts, or Gladstone Gander in some Donald shorts.

Tinkerbell - i always thought shorts like the ones we've seen are a better idea than a direct-to-video movie.
Stitch - again, having shorts before movies i think would be a much better idea than a series and DTV sequels, i would like to see those
commercials to promote the movie where he interrupts movies to be explored more and have him be in other movies.
Jack Skelington - nothing wrong with having some fun with this film, shorts don't lreally leave any chances for messing with the classic.
Jack Sparrow - making the book series of 14 year old self into animated shorts would be really interesting.
DISNEY HEROES - just like the princesses got their short movie frnachise, i think hercules, aladdin, and peter pan among others would be really fun to see.

How about the often neglected Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow? I'd love to see them do something new, or anything at all for that matter.
Perhaps a new character who resembles Scaps can rescue them from the world of Neglected Characters which is ruled by an evil slipcover
That would be sure to win an award
I'll be back when I think of something else, great idea for a topic slave2moonlight

rs_milo_whatever: I love your idea for Stitch. It really would be interesting to see him venture into the other worlds. However, if it just becomes another Lilo & Stitch spin off or movie or TV show or... whatever, I'd definitely have to say no. lol
Chernabog_Rocks: I also love your idea for Clarabelle and Horace. They've been neglected for far too long. lol

Gergi (or is is Gurgi?)- although he is from a not well known film, I find him to be the most memorable character from The Black Cauldron. It could also spark new interest in the original film which could make it more popular.
Genie- I think some shorts documenting his travels around the world between the original and Return of Jafar would be fun.
Bianca and Bernard- I personally have always thought they Disney could make a good TV series based on The Rescuers films. This could be even better!
Cinderella's Mice- They are funny and comical. Put them in some crazy situations in the castle and I willing to bet you'll find some gold.
The Three Good Fairies- Their characters were pretty well developed in Sleeping Beauty and I think their different personalities appeal to a wide variety of people, not to mention I find them to be very funny at times.
Dopey- Out of all the Seven Dwarves I can see some pretty good short stories coming from him.
Mickey's Nephews- they've dropped off the face of the earth!
Flit, Percy, and Meeko- They are very fun and expressive.
I also think they should bring back the chicken character. For some reason I always liked her.

Amen to that. Rubber hose is due for a revival, surely!Chernabog_Rocks wrote:How about the often neglected Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow? I'd love to see them do something new, or anything at all for that matter.
I'd be fascinated to see what they do with Oswald if they revive him.

Thanks, my topics usually don't do well, ha. Anyway, just wanted to say I'd love to see some Horace Horsecollar shorts and Clarabelle ones! Can't believe I forgot to mention them. They could just be Horace shorts and include Clarabelle, or vice versa. Whatever. Or at the very least, they could be in some of the new shorts of Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, or Minnie and Daisy. I'd also like to see Clara Cluck get thrown in too, when appropriate. Like I said, I loved Mickey's Three Musketeers, but it was a crime that they had an opera scene and didn't use Clara Cluck!Chernabog_Rocks wrote:How about the often neglected Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow? Oh, Gurgi is an awesome idea too, though most of the ideas that have been mentioned sound cool. I think this would be a good way to create some popularity for characters that are often forgotten, but only if they fit the shorts format. Another I thought of was Bongo the circus bear that escaped into the wild.

I love the Rescuers too (and, actually, I much prefer the sequel to the original), and I would love to see more from them, though I'm not sure I would use them for shorts. I think with the Rescuers (and I'd just cast the best sound alikes I could find for the necessary roles) I'd prefer to see a TV series or bigscreen sequels. Not that they couldn't be made to work for shorts.
My personal feeling about incorporating characters from the features into shorts is that it works best when they're the more cartoony characters, which are usually the sidekicks. Dopey, Mushu, Abu, Timon and Pumbaa, Pain and Panic, Meeko and Flit, Jaq and Gus, Jiminy Cricket, Figaro, etc... all sound like good ideas for stars of short cartoons. I think other characters could be made to work though, but seem to fit better as stars of TV shows or sequels. Aladdin, for example, would seem a bit strange as a star of short cartoons, but was great for a TV series. I know that they could make good shorts even with characters like that, but I don't see them making several, just one or two. Then, there are some major characters that I could see as short stars. Pinocchio for example, and Peter Pan. Even Alice in Wonderland. I guess it's just the ones who usually have these grand adventures that it is hard for me to picture stuck in a 7 to 10 minute format. I suppose also, for me, it depends on whether or not I can picture their face in the middle of a sunburst with jazzy music playing. Hard to picture the human characters that way, or even some of the very humanized animals, like Bernard and Bianca.
Oh, I just remembered one that I would love to see get some shorts! Figment from EPCOT!

Yeah, he's the same. And the answer to that would be the same way Pinocchio can visit the House of Mouse with all the other Disney characters. Ya gotta see it with that Roger Rabbit "toons are actors" frame of mind.akhenaten wrote:is minnie's figaro pinocchio's figaro? how can he exist in alternate worlds.
I have to acknowledge this idea. Not sure if I could imagine shorts featuring the Three Good Fairies, but I have to acknowledge this idea!singerguy04 wrote:The Three Good Fairies- Their characters were pretty well developed in Sleeping Beauty and I think their different personalities appeal to a wide variety of people, not to mention I find them to be very funny at times.
I would like to see them again in some way, the new Fairies franchise would have been a perfect way to explore these characters, but Tinkerbell stole the limelight!
I don't know who I'd pick. Shorts mainly rely on slapstick and sight gags, so we're looking for characters willing to fall flat on their face or be ridiculed. They aren't really "adventure stories". It's really just a comical character in a ridiculous situation.
Animal characters tend to be better for this type of thing so I'd go with someone like Mr. Toad or even a mythical creature like Elliott, Pete's Dragon.

slave2moonlight...when you say Disney's Gremlins, are you talking about the Gremlins movies (with Gizmo!
) or is there something else? An animated Gizmo and pre-watered/fed Gizmo buddies would be adorable!
Great thread idea, btw!
I would love to see more than the traditional short characters have their own series. From the ideas above, I would definitely like to see Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Gurgi, Roger Rabbit, Morty and Ferdie, and Percy, Meeko and Flit have new cartoons. With the Huey, Dewey, and Louie shorts, it would be cool to see Daisy's nieces April, May and June! Also, some new Alice in Wonderland shorts would be awesome!
I would love to see more of the Mouse Tales or Mousterpieces (I forget what they were called) series in which the fab five and more (or usually just Mickey, Donald, and Goofy) redo some classic stories like when they did The Nutcracker, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Around the World in 80 Days. I don't know if they did other ones, but those were my favorite of the Mouseworks/House of Mouse shorts! Also I like the Fantasia like, music only shorts like with the Mickey and Minnie Hansel and Gretel, the Goofy Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies, and there was a Donald one where he's running after a Valentine's card (or a kite?) for Daisy.
Also, more shorts with Jose Carioca and Panchito!!

Great thread idea, btw!
I know! I love that cartoon where she invites herself on Mickey and Minnie's little road trip. My brother and I quote it all the time! Daisy reading the signs: (slightly paraphrased) "Speed Limit 60 miles per hour. See that, Mickey, that means you can drive 60 miles per hour. School Zone! Slow down, Mickey, it's a school zone for pete's sake! Aardvark Crossing!"Aladdin from Agrabah wrote:Daisy Duck. I love her for being so bitchy in "mickey mouse works".

Only ten??
Bambi's Fawns: A short about Bambi's silent fawns in the same beautiful, artistic forest that was in the original Bambi would be so cute...
The Three Fairies (from Sleeping Beauty): I agree that these characters would be great for an animated short.
Huey, Dewey, and Louie in their teen forms
Tod and Vixey
Bernard and Bianca: Great characters.
Jane (from Return to Neverland): Another obscure character that I like. The short would probably be about her and Peter Pan's further adventures in Neverland. (personalities not based on the DTV sequel, of course)
Figaro
Scamp: I would love this too, unless it were based on the DTV sequel version of Scamp.....
Mushu
Lucky (from 101 Dalmatians)
Well, most of my choices are unpopular, but since this is just for fun...
