Either that, or they must have slashed their advertising budget or they are treating Rat like the evil step mom treated Cinderella.... I just did not see the push that we saw for Cars. I am curious if this film did better at the box office than Cars did domestically or worse....Simba3 wrote: A part of me can't help but think that Disney is thinking ahead. If they hold off on adding all the good bonus features until later, they can get people to purchase a re-release later. This might just be one of Disney's marketing ideas.

Cars did slightly better than Ratatouille domestically. Cars earned $244 million in the US, while Ratatouille earned $205 million. But, Cars only got a single disc release too. Sure, it has been released to Blu-Ray now, but these two films both only offer a single disc DVD. But I agree, Cars did get a much bigger push, but both films got a lack-luster DVD release.Pluto Region1 wrote:Either that, or they must have slashed their advertising budget or they are treating Rat like the evil step mom treated Cinderella.... Finally sat down this afternoon to watch Ratatouille. This is the first time I have watched it (didn't see it in the theater), and I loved it. Another great Disney/Pixar film. The shorts were great too. Still need to check out the Target bonus disc later.
I'm not sure how I would rank this with the others right now, but its up there.

The presentation on the Cars Blu-Ray disc is absolutely jaw-dropping. The detail in the reflections, the sharpness of the lines, and the defined color saturation is simply stunning. The scene where Lightning and Sally go joyriding is just amazing.
I'm never going to watch this in standard definition again, if I can help it. I'm sure Ratatouille is the same quality.

yes, I agree, the film is a work of art. One of the reasons I was so blown away by Cars was the first tracking shot where they are racing around the track. It really is hard to believe you are watching a "cartoon" at times. In comparison, Ratatouille has some scenes that were close to comparable but it didn't have the wow factor Cars did for me. But it has a very strong story, and is very smart, from beginning to end.thatartguy wrote:The presentation on the Cars Blu-Ray disc is absolutely jaw-dropping. Okay, so if I saw Cars in the theater, is Blue Ray comparable to how it looked in the theaters? Is it better or worse quality? What is the blue ray experience comparable. Was seeing it in the theater the best possible quality? I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question.

We can't afford to get a high def player or a high def TV... plus my husband had been waiting for the technology to really mature and the prices to drop. However I am still hoping we can get one of these sets that allows you to watch movies in 3-D. I saw various types at a tech show earlier this year. Now that would really be cool!

I'd say the home theater blu-ray experience is better. Films at the movie theaters degrade quickly with scratches and can have film developing errors (blotches in frames etc.). Cars in this example would have been made straight from the digital files and has no errors of this kind and is drop dead gorgeous... almost real.

thanks for that- yeah, I notice that every time I watch a film in the theater, I see blotches, was wondering what that was. I guess we will have to save up for this experience.thatartguy wrote:I'd say the home theater blu-ray experience is better. Hey everyone! I was just wondering what the deleted scenes on the Blu-ray release were. I know what there were five extra deleted scenes and then snippets of deleted stuff as well. If anyone has it and would like to post (along with the times, I'm actually curious) it would be much appreciated.

Ratatouille
Pixar has been known to have the appearance of someone from another of their movies in it, but as far as I know there isn't any in Ratatouille. If there is someone please let me know.

You can check Ratatouille's imdb page for familiar names.MadHatter wrote:Pixar has been known to have the appearance of someone from another of their movies in it, but as far as I know there isn't any in Ratatouille. If there is someone please let me know.
After my first viewing of Ratatouille back in June, I did not enjoy it as much as I wanted to. But after a second viewing, I now love this movie. I've seen the whole thing 3 times ever since I bought it on DVD. Now I understand how multiple viewings can get you to change your opinion. I used to be against multiple viewings because my theory was that one viewing should determine how you feel about it and it is unfair to watch it 10 times before you like it. But I can see now it is better to judge it after a few viewings so you can fully enjoy it and can carefully express your true opinions about it.
And being a score listener, I think Michael Giacchino's compositions for Ratatouille were wonderful...it fit perfectly with the movie.
By the way, how are the features off of the Target bonus disc? I got the hat and apron.

I finally got to see this the other day and I hate that I was dissapointed. I normally adore Pixar films, but this one was just boring and I watched with children and they weren't even into the film.
It was just lacking a certain something that made Finding Nemo and Cars so great. I can't put my finger on it.
I can say that I hardly laughed at any of it, the only gag that made me giggle was seeing all the rats when the old lady shot the ceiling.
Sorry Pixar, I will not be buying this one.

Have you guys read Jim Hill's newest article where he admits that Rataouille is actually a big hit overseas? While he still says that it was a bomb in the US he admits that the movie's overseas success will rake in some major profit.
I was also thinking, am I the only one that believes that Ratatouille would've done MUCH better had it been released in the Fall/Thanksgiving season than in the summer season?
There were far too much blockbusters last summer, with all of the hype and attention being placed upon "Transformers".
Had Ratatouille been released in the Fall/Winter it would've done much better since there aren't that many big films during that season. Plus its "feel good" motif is better for the holiday season since people are in the mood for something fun.

I bought the Wal Mart DVD exclusive with the bonus DVD this past Thursday. Pretty interesting. It's mostly just shortened episodes of three Food Network shows, plus an exclusive segment filmed for the DVD.
If anyone's interested, I'd be willing to trade a DVD-R of the Wal Mart bonus DVD for a DVD-R of the Target DVD. I wish I'd known Target was giving out a DVD of bonus materials actually related directly to the movie, or I'd have bought it there instead of Wal Mart. I don't know when exactly I'd get it sent off, but likely within a couple of weeks. PM me if you're interested.

Don't worry, I won't shoot. I'll lob a few tomatoes your way, though. The features are just like the ones on our Target disc, so it's nothing for me to worry about.ichabod wrote:Now remember, I'm just the messenger!

(and in a quasi-related note: for a second I was thinking, "Why the hell are they releasing this in November of next year?" Then I remembered that you guys do D/M/Y instead of M/D/Y)
