Wait, wait, wait...does this mean Season 4 is over and that was the finale?!

Or is the show just on a hiatus because of the writers' strike. There would probably be one anyway because of the Christmas break (I have no idea how American TV times run, haha) but is it over

I'm really annoyed that Heroes ended with just 10 episodes or however many it was, I hope this isn't the end for Grey's Anatomy season 4 (I hate waiting for new seasons and paying for short season DVD's).
P.S. I really wished the white supremacist didn't survive though (I know, that makes me just as bad as him) and I should follow Bailey's belief of "rising-above it" because it makes you a better person. But I thought George had better views on the situation. "And since we're sharing belief systems, I believe, that if you were dead...the world would be a better place."
I want a really big season finale. Something huge that leaves you dying to see what happens at the beginning of the next season (cliche as this idea is, you'll know what I mean) like a lonely patient takes the hospital hostage and every staff member is standing in the foyer, and as the episode ends you hear a gun shot and Meredith puts her fingers to her shoulder and pulls them away and you see blood on her fingers. And then you hear footsteps running towards the hospital foyer and the screen fades out and you hear two more gun shots. (They'd hit Lexie and Olivia just incase you were curious in my cliche season finale. Meredith would recover very quickly and never want to talk about it ever again. Lexie would be traumatised, have nightmares and think about quitting medicine (considering she's so fragile) and Olivia would die (I don't like her that much).
Actually too much happens to Meredith, change it to George or Callie, wait, yes, Callie, and as she falls to the ground George rushes to her aid against the hostage-holder's commands. And it shows a close up of Izzie and she realises he still has feelings for her...or maybe another scenario, like Rose gets shot, Derek rushes to her, and Meredith realises he's moved on.
Or I dunno, what's another idea......they get news that Bourke has died, and Christina (depressed and shocked) stands at the top of Seattle Grace, when Meredith (who's going home) notices her and realises she's about to suicide, screms at her but Christina is standing there completely blanked out. And the ending would be all these cops and negotiators standing around Seattle Grace and the end is simply Izzie screaming (although you don't know why).
I just want a suspenseful ending. As much as I love this show, it's not like you see 5 flatmates dancing around in their house when you suddenly scream: "OMG! WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT SEASON!"
