Yes, that's the probrlem with all the "restorations".

No glows, lighting atmosphere, etc is left.
All the patches are just plain colors.

Dumbo is just flat blue, his face looks like it's plastic.
The flames itself are just one big patch of red and yellow, and don't look like flames anymore, it might as well could be someone's hair.

If you cut the flames out on the other screenshots, you still can see the glow, the heat, the danger in colors on dumbo's face, the background and the atmosphere. If you take the flames away in the 2006 dvd screenshot, there's nothing left and dumbo could be sitting in the snow somewhere.

Marky_198 made an excellent point. I noticed that as well.

In my opinion the 2006, newly restored version looks awful compared to the 2001 dvd release. The colors appear way too dark and flat, whereas the 2001 one looks almost perfect. I have no idea how anyone could honestly say the latest Big Top Edition looks better in that regard...

I'm not as keen on the platinum editions as most here are, cause to me it's not about the bonusses and extras, it's foremost about the movie itself. And so far many video restorations have been a downright shame (mind you, some have been pretty good and true to the original creation) if you ask me.

edit: the review of the big top edition on ultimatedisney is laughable. I quote: ''The transfer is obviously darker, a change that seems to be for the better, given the wider color range. The animation flows smoothly from one frame to the next with coloration that is richer and seemingly more accurate in most scenes.''

I don't agree one bit, but I'm sure there's others that do...
