I just put my Limited Issue release in, and those "lines" are not visible in that release. This leads me to believe that this is a product of the restoration, or, a defect in the transfer.
Now that this has been pointed out, this is going to drive me crazy. I'm glad I kept my Limited Issue release. I guess we'll have to contact Disney about this issue, and see what they have to say.

I noticed these lines too... mostly on Baloo at various times throughout the second half of the movie. There is definitely something wrong with the print or restoration or DVD authoring.MadonnasManOne wrote:Well, it looks like there is some sort of problem with this release. Whether it is from the actual print, itself, or, a problem with the DVD, I don't know.
These lines are one of two things:
1. Serious color banding (I think this is NOT the case)
or
2. If you are viewing on a TV using HDMI connection on a television set, the "handshake" on some Televisions leaves "residue" from earlier hard lines in shots. I haven't looked at the disc yet on a standard def TV with a standard def player, but I've seen this happen on loads of DVD's, when viewed on a High Def Up-converting player. It always REALLY seems to effect gray areas, and two of the main characters in the Jungle Book are...well...gray. I noticed it in a few scenes of Baloo and Bahgheera. But I'm pretty sure it is not an inherent problem with the transfer.

I checked out the same frames on my laptop, but to be honest, I think the poster is overreacting. The lines appear in the same places on my DVD, but they're so barely visible that I had to stick my face inches away from my monitor to see them. I even took a picture with my camera to see if the lines became more obvious like they were on his pictures, and the the lines complete vanished. I'll check it out on the HDTV in the living room later. Considering I never noticed these lines while watching the film yesterday, the level of visibility probably won't differ much from what my laptop showed.
Strange, the lines.
Maybe it has something to do with the way they colour in all the big patches of grey and brown digitally with the computer?

Finally got to see The Jungle Book. I haven't seen The Jungle Book since 3 years ago because I wasn't really happy with the Limited Issue DVD.
The Jungle Book also has great bonus materials and music video.
It was really said to hear on the DVD how Walt Disney died.

Because they're random and unpredictable. What's even more odd is that the trailer was on the 30th Anniversary laserdisc. At least for Peter Pan's trailer exclusion, Disney can use the excuse that it wasn't easy to obtain since it never appeared on home video. That excuse doesn't wash with The Jungle Book, though, and they even transferred the Frank & Ollie interview found on that very laserdisc to this DVD. Thankfully, someone on ripped the trailer from his laserdisc and put it on YouTube:SwordInTheStone777 wrote:Why did Disney not include any trailers?

I am totally disappointed with all of the contributors here at UD. Has anyone ever bought a Disney movie that they really liked? Can anyone just take a movie home and watch it and not get hyper-critical about something in the film? Maybe it is just me, but I am just glad that we get the restorations that we get, and I don't feel that one has been better than the other.
I have watched Jungle Book on my front projection Hi-Def Home Theater screen, which is almost 15' diagonal picture, and I have never seen some of the things that these so-called "critics" on UD have seen. It must be very minute for it to not be noticed, because I see all there is to see when I watch a movie.
I will tell you that the sound-mix on this PE of Jungle Book is one of the best in some time, and the over-all presentation is totally enjoyable, and my three-year-old grandson knows the words to 'Bare Necessities' better than most teenagers. And he can dance like Baloo when he sings the song, also.
I just think some of the posters here are way over-critical of things, and most of us 'real' people wouldn't notice most of what they talk about. If they aren't happy with what they are getting, take the movie back and use their money for something else. If Disney gets enough returned merchandise, then they may perk their collective heads and take notice.

I got the DVD today and it was good. The one film that I would like to throw out is a VCD copy of "The Jungle Book", because it's no good.
I just checked through the movie that this film has a brief 1990 Walt Disney Pictures logo shown instead of full which was on the VHS "Masterpiece" copy from the late 90's. The ending to this film has no restoration end credits at all, just the silent WDP blue logo, that's it! The "Masterpiece" VHS edition had a cut-short version of the logo at the end.
This is the only movie I got on DVD, but I don't have the two LP's on the Disneyland label which is "The Story of 'The Jungle Book'" (ST-3948) and "'The Jungle Book' and Other Jungle Favorites" (DQ-1304). Those are the two LP's that I don't have in my collection, except the two songs are from the LP are "The Bare Necessities" from "Walt Disney's Happiest Songs" (DL-3509), "I Wanna Be Like You" from "Walt Disney's Merriest Songs" (DL-3510), "Colonel Hati's March" from "Classic Disney - Vol. 1" on cassette, "Trust in Me" from "Classic Disney - Vol. 3" on cassette and "That What Friends Are For" from "Classic Disney - Vol. 5" on cassette.

We just love the Disney movies, and want the best releases possible. And if you have bought a big HD screen, you want the picture to look good. Some people just notice those things sooner than others, it has nothing to do with critics, or anything. And you must admit that Disney isn't doing its best on the recent releases.dvdjunkie wrote:I am totally disappointed with all of the contributors here at UD. I really like, or really love, almost every single one of the Disney movies in my collection. In fact, I do so, despite any flaws.dvdjunkie wrote:I am totally disappointed with all of the contributors here at UD. Has anyone ever bought a Disney movie that they really liked? If your comments are directed towards me, for pointing out the weird line situation, then you need to read, again. I just posted this, because I saw it at DVDTalk. Despite the weird lines, I still enjoy this movie, and the bonus features.
Everyone has the right to be critical. Just because we are, does not mean that we don't enjoy what we are being critical of.

This is nothing. I am a big Doctor Who fan and those DVDs are put together by a team of experts who virtually work for nothing and do stunning restoration work. They are probably the best TV show DVDs on the market.dvdjunkie wrote:I am totally disappointed with all of the contributors here at UD. Has anyone ever bought a Disney movie that they really liked?
There is a vocal minority of fans who go out of the way to find problems with the DVDs to complain or question why things were done a certain way. I think the majority of Doctor Who fans appreciate the hard work but the vocal minority really makes reading discussion boards about the DVDs no fun. That's just my opinion.
Keep in mind all of the above I am talking about Doctor Who and not the Disney releases or members of UD. I am not much of an expert on the Disney releases to notice any big problems (with the exception of the True-Life Adventure disc). I just enjoy having them on DVD.
Sorry for the derailment of this thread.
