I watched Princess Mononoke. It was.........hard to understand. An internet friend of mine recommended it to me along with several other anime films.
I hope the next one I watch is not as gory.

Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

Better get ready to cheer!
Better get ready to hear!
The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band(1968)
After over a year of searching, I finally found a copy of the DVd and loved it. Even with crappy quality (despite what mr. Sherman thinks) pan and scan picture quality. Also, did anyone notice on the Bonus features that the clips from The Happiest Millionaire had WAY better picture quality than the DVD? Does mean Disney has actually restored the film and not released that print? I want answers!

That's a nice eclectic selection you've got there, Dottie! A romcom, a western, a musical, and two masterpieces (one of which I still have to get on DVD).Dottie wrote:Music & Lyrics

Arsenic and Old Lace
For featuring such a nice selection, a couple pink elephants to keep you company on whatever movies you'll watch next:
Anyway, the only movie I've seen at all this week was Freaky Friday (1977 version). I caught it on TCM last night and it was better than I remembered, though it felt more like a 1950s comedy than a 1970s one.

The Kingdom. Quite easily the best film of the year so far. After being letdown by the somewhat lame ending for 3:10 to Yuma, I was ready for a film that was great and stayed great from beginning to end; The Kingdom is that movie. After a suicide bomber causes mass hysteria inside an American facility in Saudi Arabia, the FBI sends a special investigations team (Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman and Chris Cooper) to check out the site of the attacks. With the help of the Saudi government, they attempt to quickly put the pieces of the puzzle together before the FBI pulls them out before another attack happens. The film is fast, smart, violent and gritty, and while it's not perfect, it is better than any other film out right now. I'd give it an A.

Just saw the movie that will probably be the center of attention come Oscar time - In The Valley of Elah which is directed by Paul Haggis ("Crash") and stars Tommy Lee Jones, Susan Sarandon, Jason Patric, and Charlize Theron. This is the story of a family torn apart by the apparent murder of their son shortly after his return from Iraq. The lack of police empathy for the family, and the apparent 'put it on the back burner for now' justice system. Jones and Sarandon give the performances of their careers in this film and without being preachy Haggis gives a very in-depth at the situation we are in with our involvement in Iraq. Very good direction, very good story, and like I have said, look out at Oscar time, this one is going to get a lot of attention. 4/5 stars.

The 1957 version of this movie starred Glenn Ford as Ben Wade, and Van Heflin as Dan Evans with Richard Jaeckel doing the evil Charlie Prince. If you watch this version of the movie you will see that they basically copied it for the 2007 version, updated the language, which I still don't believe the "f"-bomb was ever used back then, and was a little more graphic in the violence than the original. Frankie Laine sang the theme song, ""3:10 to Yuma" over the opening credits.
There is a lot more tension in the 2007 version, and little more character development in the 1957 version, so they both equal out. But a "lame ending"?..................I don't think so. I think you might have not been paying close enough attention to details and it all got by you.

Wow!! What were you watching when you went to see "3:10 to Yuma"? You couldn't have been watching the same movie as everyone else did. What was lame about the ending? And if you were paying attention we don't know if he got to prison anyway, because he whistled for his horse and the horse was following the train. You better watch this again. It is the best remake of a classic western that I have ever seen. After being letdown by the somewhat lame ending for 3:10 to Yuma,

Yes, I've only just seen it (actually I saw it about a week ago, but wanted to watch it again because for all it's plus points the XBox360 is quite loud and this is a dialogue heavy film).
But watching it again, I don't think I missed anything. A shame, because the film isn't half as clever as it thinks it is. The actual construction is done well, with multiple flashbacks slowly filling in puzzles (such as "Why does Angier have a limp?" etc.) The script too was fine, and the acting was superior. (Although I would have perferred Scarlett and Piper to switch roles - I was sad to see Piper Perabo die after such a small amount of screen time).
But the ending just disappoints. I was hoping for something simple and rational - something which would have been made much more of an impact than the sci-fi/fantasy-esque ending we did get.
I suppose its all a meditation on "obsession" - Angier was obessed with Bourden's trick (and their rivarly) so much he overlooked the obvious - even when the obvious was clearly suggested to him by somebody with so much more knowledge of the workings of tricks than Angier himself - and as a result his obsession led to him - quite literally - "dying a little" each night. Very deep and meaningful, but not so much "twisty".
But, whatever, I would rather have a straight forward based in reality twist at the end.

Pocahontas - I swear, slowly but surely this movie is climbing up and reaching one of the top spots among my Disney favorites. The music never fails to amaze me. Some animated sequences sent chills down my spine, the art is glamerous and did I mention the music? Wow. The only big fault I can't manage to overlook is Pocahontas's miraculous understanding of the English language. I think a time-skip scene (think Son of Man, Hakuna Matata) would've been much more effecient. But I regress, this movie is still terrific, and terribly underrated. I give it a high 8/10!

Oh no, I paid attention. Wade says that he's just gonna break out anyway - But they still rush to get him on the train! Plus, come on, who couldn't have predicted all of the deaths and how they would happen the minute the shooting started? A very predictable ending to an otherwise great film. I would love to see Crowe get nominated again for his role as Wade.dvdjunkie wrote:Just Myself wrote:
