Is Zac Efron gay? (Did he admit it on Oprah?)

If Disney Duster was a movie, would he be Hollywood mainstream, independent artsy, or the embarrassing home videos your family watches during a party? wrote:Although, strangely, is perfectly acceptable for straight actors to play gay characters...
Funny story: well-known gay actor John Barrow<strike>man</strike>boy (a nod to netty's nickname for him and the fact that the guy looks like he never ages ;) ) was almost given the role of Will Truman on "Will & Grace", but TPTB chose not to cast him because he came off as "too straight". Apparently the straight Eric McCormack seemed to fit the "gay" persona they were looking for? Then again, I wouldn't want Barrow<strike>man</strike>boy to play Will if the series played out the same (especially starting with Season 5, that sad and slow descent into not-so-engaging-drama set against not-as-enjoyable-as-it-used-to-be-comedy). Plus, if he was on "Will & Grace", he wouldn't have been on the short-lived "Titans" in 2000. Sure, the show sucked beyond comparison, but it had the yummy Yasmine Bleeth! :D

Personally, I'm of the Jane Christie school of thought on sexuality:

There are no homosexuals, there are just peoplesexuals.
("Coupling" - Series One, Episode Two: "Size Matters")

And her school of thought on Friendship:

Friendship is more lasting than love, and more legal than stalking!
("Coupling" - Series One, Episode Two: "Size Matters")

As well as her school of thought on vegetarianism:

I'm bi-vegetarian. <snip> I'm an emotional vegetarian, I know a lot vegetarians and we tend to like the same films. <snip> I'm not exclusively vegetarian. <snip> Vegetarianism for me is about saying "Yes" to things, even meat.
("Coupling" - Series One, Episode Four: "Inferno")

Finally, let's not forget her school of thought on pills:

I don't like to label everything in my medicine cabinet. You'd never have any surprises.
("Coupling" - Series Two, Episode Five: "Jane and the Truth Snake")

And this post went way off-topic... :P

Well it looks like I won't get much actual information about his sexuality aside from the general criticism about predicting actors sexuality and about caring about it, so I guess I'll just have to wait for an actual confirmation of it from Zac publicly, see him kissing a guy or ask him personally (which I hope could happen). I know this is a thread for everyone's opinions, and they're all valid and respected, but I was hoping for some actual info on him. Oh well.

When this topic came up, I YouTubed "Zac Efron Oprah" and nothing relevant popped up. Once more of us see the episode, we can form opinions based on that...but until then, all we can do is speculate.

For Vanessa's sake, I hope he isn't. If he's bi, then that's alright, but I am a Vanessa fan, and it just wouldn't be cool if he was dating her for publicity. I like to think that they actually like each other... :)

Going back to Escapay's post, what's interesting is Out Gay Actor John Barrowman is playing the leading role in a sci-fi drama series. In fact, the series was created especially for him/his character. And his character is "omni"sexual - like Bisexual, only more so.

Gay actors in Hollywood (and I'm sure that there are some) are afraid to "come out" bacause they fear it will stop them being offered "heroic" and "action "roles.

Look at this:
http://www.afterelton.com/blog/michaelj ... ch-was-gay
I was very upset by it - I was not happy about it at all. There were times I had to avoid talking about it because we didn't want to have a negative reflection on the show. The show's been such a positive experience for so many people, we didn't want to get hung up on the fact that one actor's management felt that it was a career killer for him to play a homosexual which, as a gay man, I found incredibly insulting.
I find this frankly unbelievable.

I suppose it's a reflection of the celebrity culture we live in, but I thought actors were supposed to act and pretend to be other people, with other people's thoughts, actions and desires. Or am I talking nonsense?

What's worse is, if the actor was asked to play a serial killer with strong, perverted hetrosexual overtones, or any other undesirable role, his management wouldn't care less. In fact, they would probably advise him to do it, because such roles have made careers in the past. Daniel Ratcliffe plays a horse slasher on stage. Does that mean people assume he is cruel to animals in real life? Of course not. Thankfully at least Daniel is open to other roles and the whole experience of acting: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/a764 ... roles.html Good for him. At least us British aren't as uptight and frankly, homophobic.

I mean, are we really saying, as a collective group, its OK for an actor to pretend to be a character who is a mass murderer - but its not OK for an actor (straight or gay) to pretend to be a homosexual?

The world is mad.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Mabey there relationship is like Lockwood and Lamont from Singin' In The Rain.

Vanessa (the girl who's named after Ursula as a human): You couldn't have kissed me like that and not mean it just a tinsy bit.

Zac (the boy who should be more comfortable with his sexuality if he's gay): Meet the greatest actor in the world!

Oh I wish...

I watched this episode on Oprah and I don't remember hearing or seeing anything about Zac's sexuality on it.

There is someone at my college who assumes I am a lesbian and harasses me simply because I am in theatre. It's a very annoying stereotype, whether it is based on fact or not.

Oh okay, well then maybe they're just rumours. Or maybe it was on the After the Show bit? Cause I have heard it on a few forums. Probably just rumours though.

Considering his career has been built on the fantasies of hordes of screaming teenage girls who believe that they'll be Mrs. Zac Efron one day, it's going to be many years before he comes out, if he is, in fact, gay. It's extremely damaging to a teen idol's career to come out as gay because that's part of why they're so successful - teens of the opposite sex who feel like they could possibly attain them. Granted these teens will eventually grow up and realize what fools they were, and naturally then they'd likely be more accepting of them coming out...but still.
