Is Zac Efron gay? (Did he admit it on Oprah?)
Hey guys, I'm just wondering whether Zac Efron, the charismatic young actor from Summerland, High School Musical 1 and 2, and Hairpsray is gay or not? I know, I know, he was dating Vanessa Hudgens, but he could still be bisexual, and reportedly hung out at gay bars in London. He also apparently admitted it on Oprah that he was gay. I'm not sure what to think, I'm getting a slight gay vbe reading on my gaydar, but I don't think he would just string Baby V along if he didn't have feelings for her. So what is he?

But I don't think Zac is gay, but there's a possibility that he's bisexual, you never know !

Hmmm, yeah, I agree, I'm betting he's bisexual too. I really want him to be, cause I'd love to date him, which is very unrealistic, but still, someone can dream. I plan to move to the US in a few years, once I hit 18, so I can pursue a career in either, dance, modelling, marketing or writing, so yeah, would love to get to know him, if I get into the right circles. Who knows, I might end up in High School Musical 8 or something. I'd really like anyone who saw the Oprah episode in which the Hairspray cast were on it, to let me know whether he admitted to being gay, coz everyone's saying it, on the Zac Efron forums. I'd be so great if he did, maybe it was on the After The Show bit? Any help would be appreciated, just need some closure on this. Ha, I'm so lame.

I must admit, I laughed upon reading this subject line. From the little I know about Zac, I assumed that he was completely heterosexual. Perhaps he is bi, but does it truly matter?
It bothers me when people insist that someone "looks homo or bi" or gives off the "vibes" of being of any orientation. There could be another explanation as to why Zac was seen in gay bars; there are plenty of straight people who support their gay friends in many ways. Personally, I don't care what Zac's orientation is. He might be "in the closet," so to speak. It seems rude to poke into the private lives of anyone (says the hypocrite, who digresses).

I suppose he could be a straight guy who just likes his skin artificially bronze and his makeup heavy and visible...
I never quite bought that. I wouldn't believe the Oprah thing unless you see it, though.

That's what I said, in different words and with an "it bothers me when people assume things because ______" thrown in.Flanger-Hanger wrote:I think the real question should be...
Who the hell cares?!
If he's gay that's fine. If he's not that's fine. Does it affect your daily life? NO! Let people who work or are related to him care about him. Not us.

That's hot.

Not if the media implies being gay is a bad thing, like it does with all celebrities, by saying such things as "how will it affect his/her carrer?" among other things. Nobody will truly feel comfortable until being gay is considered an afterthought, not a major concern in someones life. Still, considering Zac's popularity, you are right SpringHeelJack, it does help I guess.

Yeah, it's not like I'm gonna criticise him for being gay, I'd just like to know. And I don't think many more people than those that do already criticise him would either, there are already those that don't like him for his "gay vibes" so, it wouldn't deter many from him, I don't think, if he was gay. And yeah, as SpringHeelJack said, it would be nice to have a good gay role model. I mean all we've got is Mr Grumpy (Elton John), Mr Declining Career (George Micheal) Mr Who Is He Again? (Rupert Everett), and Mr Self-Indulgent (Darren Hayes). There are others, such as Will Young from UK Idol, Matt Lucas from Little Britain, and Anthony Callea from Australian Idol, but really, there are practically no truly great role models for gay teens nowadays, and Zac Efron would be the best definition of the word gay. And not that it would really define him for me, but it is nice to know someones sexuality. Sure someones personality and persona is ncier to know, but from experience, it's hard to know if someone is gay, it'd be a great world if everyone wore it on their sleeve and were accepting of each other for it.

you know... the thing is. There's the 10% rule, right. and in high school drama classes, it's like the "90% rule". Not to stereotype, but most guys in drama classes are gay.
And then there's Hollywood, where 0.01% is gay.... and I mean that as in out. Now Hollywood is nothing more than a big drama class. So logic would tell us there should be quite a bit more than 0.01%. Wich could only mean most are in the closet.
Now I'm not saying Zac is gay, nor am I saying he isnt. It's just that logic tells us in acting, a creative art, there are suposed to be a lot of gay people. Like Broadway and other (performing) arts. But for some reason, it's still a huge taboo to be gay in Hollywood. There's still this unspoken rule, that you'll be out of a job if you admit to being gay.
Untill that changes, each new upcoming male actor will have the entire media specualting about his sexuality.

Is Zac Efron Gay? I lot of guys hope so.
PatrickvD, that was brilliant. I always wondered the things you mentioned, too, but never knew all the facts and went about it that logically. I would say that Hollywood is more "mainstream" than Broadway or the "artsier" stuff, since they say Hollywood is less art than films that please audiences with action, slapstick, and hot stars. Broadway has that too, but along with new, different messages and more artistic exploration.
Anyway, gay isn't mainstream enough to have a romantic comedy with same-sex couples (Chuck and Larry do not count), so I think that's mostly the reason why so many are in the closet. I know all the kids in my theater department at college say Hollywood movies aren't artsy but just mainstream and the independent ones are better, and more expected to treat gayness as more than just a joke.
Although, strangely, is perfectly acceptable for straight actors to play gay characters...

That's my favorite thing about the early 90's in particular. Whenever any straight actor played a gay character, it was almost like "THEY'RE PLAYING A GAY? GIVE THEM MANY AWARDS!!!". Then when gay actors did it, there was this sort of "Wait...you're REALLY gay...this is weird..." mentality. It was a fun time.Disney Duster wrote:Although, strangely, is perfectly acceptable for straight actors to play gay characters...
