It's who I thought is was when I got a few hundred pages in.... It's SO sad though. Finished the book and looking forward to the next one. Hope we don't have to wait 2 years for this one.
It's SOOOOO sad. No wonder Rowling cried for a while afterward. I think it took so much out of her to do that to this character.
BUT OHHHHHH the things written at the end of the book are amazing!!!

I've read the first 10 chapters (199 pp) and their finally at Hogwarts (though the stuff in between is interesting ), but I'm trying to save some for a plane ride I have to go on this weekend, so I'm pacing myself, reading about 100 pages a day.
If I'm not mistaken, nobody died in Chapter Two

the one that everyone is talking about that dies, does around pages 750 or so. I don't remember the exact page, but it is very far into the book, more near the end. So yes, no one dies in chapter 2 (at least not any main characters)

That's all right, I kind of suspected that I wasn't having major short term memory problems (like Dory). Anyways, I'm going to get off soon to read another 100 pages. I'm starting on Chapter 15 today.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS, DO NOT READ ON IF YOU HATE SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, I finished the book yesterday, and I freaking loved it, of course. As of now this is my favorite book not just from HP but period, and I love how different this is character-wise and plot structure-wise. That said, I was slightly disappointed at the death of Sirius. To me, it seemed rather rushed, and we weren't given enough time to react. I was expecting to be horrifyed more at the death and, though I'll probably get stoned to death for this, I'm kinda glad it was Sirius who died and not someone else like Dumbledore, Hagrid, etc. I liked Sirius, but he never made as much of an impact on me as he seems to have on others. Perhaps this is because we've only known Sirius for 3 books, and he constantly pops in and out through the 3.
Anyone else extremely disturbed by Umbridge's detentions to Harry...? I think that if they depict it on screen for movie 5 as vividly as J.K. wrote it, I'm gonna be sick in the movie theater...::shudder::
I really liked how different this book's climax was from the others. For once, Harry isn't alone in a deserted area fighting Voldemort one-to-one; he's in a public place watching Voldemort and Dumbledore confronting each other while a ton of his classmates are wandering around fighting off death eaters. I wish we saw more of Voldemort, though. Hopefully he'll have more to do in books 6 and 7, when the threat of who's going to die-Harry or Voldie-becomes stronger.
The movie version of this book is due out June 2007, with Goblet of Fire November 2005 and Prisoner of Azkaban June 2004. I suspect that GoF and OotP's filmed versions will be split into halves each, much like the way the Matrix sequels have been, in order to cram in vital details.
Umbridge will be a classic role in the film. I can see lots of actors fighting it out to get her part - she will become a true love-to-hate villain.
The climax will be stunning on film, and unlike the other books I didn't find the ending to this to be an anti-climax. All of the other books have let be down somewhat. Although when Dumbledore says he will tell Harry "everything" he doesn't really tell us (or Harry) a lot.
I finished mine Sunday night and what a great book it was. Possible Spoilers ahead
I Love Luna Lovegood! I didn't get upset by the death (never one of my favourite characters) but I got really upset when Luna told Harry that everyone takes her stuff and calls her Looney, she didn't ever seem to care the poor thing . I hope we get to see her again in book 6 and 7.
I was sure that Ron and Hermione would get it on but their relationship does seem to have changed since book 4 and Ron did get Hermione perfume for christmas.
Anyways a great book all round and I cant wait til Book 6, and hope it doesn't take as long to come out as this book did.
