Becoming Jane

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single woman in love with Mr. Darcy and Jane Austen's works is bound to love a film about Miss Austen's life. And I did like it indeed.
Not unlike newer adaptations of her works the scenery is gorgeous and shot beautifully in the English countryside with its charming landscapes and woods.
The actors are all well cast and portray the characters true to the times and manners of 19th Century England.
Especially Miss Anne Hathaway as the movie's heroine does a terrific job indeed, and her British accent might be considered one of the better ones.
The supporting characters and actors with the inclusion of Miss Jane Austen's love-interest carry similarities to Austen's characters and show a delightful mix of talent, ability and class.
The script is well written, sharp, romantic, very true to Jane Austen's style and has an air of lightness that makes the film highly enjoyable.
Okay, I can't write like Austen, so back to normal. Take your bonnett off and use a laptop instead of a pen.
If you have ever read one of Jane Austen's books you're gonna love this.
Anne Hathaway is charming, Julie Walter's a mix of Mrs. Dahwood and Mrs. Bennet, the love-interest is hot and sweet, Maggie Smith great as always... and for real Austen fans there is much to be spotted from quotes to situations and entire passages of dialogue.

Jeff Lieberman's comeback horror film, Satan's Little Helper (2005) - C+ : I think this one's going to take a little getting used to. But it definitely had it's moments. It took me awhile to warm-up to the High-Definition photography but... it did sort-of enhance the small-town during Halloween feel to the movie in some places. Lieberman's sort of been out of practice in horror since the '70s and the film definitely lacks a certain tightness in editing and a stylistic finesse. Other minor complaints include- the music score didn't feel right, the acting was way off (Amanda Plummer was completely underused), and the writing floundered a bit (a sub-plot about a young man's abusive family is brought up for no other reason than for a silly red-herring). But the ideas were still good and frequently, scenes would get better as they played through. As I said, my opinion might change the more I see the movie.

What a girl wants
The movie is not that good, it's entertaining but that's about it. And it has Colin Firth. That's why I watch it.

The Bridge
A disturbing documentary about people having comitted suicide by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge and their families.

Bridge to Terabithia
It was nice, but kind of not my piece of cake. I am just not such a big fan of these "How to cope with pre-teen problems+death" movies. That's why I don't like "My girl". "Bridge was okay, but for me only one time.

Dreamgirls
I could watch this movie over and over again. It's just so good, great music, great cast, wonderful setting and costumes. Simply a great movie!

How does this have anything to do with the latest movie viewing?
As for me, quite a bit:

• Hairspray - (A) Wondeful musical. You just can't see it and not have a smile on your face the whole way through. It also deals with some significant issues, and is dealt with with a lot of respect.
  The Simpsons Movie - (A) Hilarious is an understatement. All I can say is this; Spider-Pig, Spider-Pig, does whatever a Spider-Pig does. Does he swing from a web? No he can't, he's a pig.
  The Exorcism of Emily Rose - (D) What begins as an honest attempt at showing a real life story of "possesion" quickly becomes another over-the-top horrow show.
  Finding Neverland - (A) Starts off a bit slow, but Depp's performance holds the movie afloat until it becomes a moving piece about friendship and imagination.
  Jet Li's Fearless - (C+) Eh, OK action scenes but not much more to it.

Rush Hour 3 - Not the best movie of the year, but far from the worst. Jackie Chan and a new, improved Chris Tucker are thrust together again to find an ancient Chinese Triad and all the action takes us to Paris, France. A lot of fun, and definitely worth a watch. Didn't feel like I wasted my money, and will have to think about adding it to the DVD collection when it comes to DVD. 3/5 stars.
