hahahaha, no I could go on about the differences between the movie and film for hours! the ones I said before were just a few examples, because I recently read the book twice before the movie came out...I'm a massive Harry Potter nerd.jediliz wrote:You forgot another thing-
* They didn't include the two-way mirror that Harry uses to communicate with Sirius.
* Harry and Sirius only contact eachother via Floo Powder once, in the book they do it several times, one of which Umbridge nearly catches them when we see a chubby hand in the flames.
* Sirius appeared in the flames this time, the special effects weren't as cool when we saw him in 'The Goblet of fire' and he emerged from the perfectly placed embers.
* Hagrid's height is still really inconsistent, first movie he was 9 foot, now he's like 16 feet.
* Sirius gives Harry the original picture, when really it's MadEye Moody at the prefect party...or is it Mundungus, meh, hahaha.
* The family doesn't speak about how Percy is on Fudge's side and Ron never receives the letter from Percy telling him not to be friends with Harry and that he should be polite and praise Umbridge.
* The kids are never ordered into cleaning the Black house, they just sit there and are there for ages.
* OH! And they forgot my FAVORITE! FAVORITE! scene, where Molly goes to the drawing room to kill the Boggart, and Harry walks in and sees Ron dead on the ground, and Molly is sobbing, "rid-rid-ridiculus!" CRACK! Dead twins CRACK! Dead Ginny CRACK! Dead Charlie CRACK! Dead Harry. That would've been soooooo awesome, argh! hahaha.
I could point out the differences from the entire film but I'd rather not, you guys are probably starting to think I didn't enjoy it when I absolutely loved it, I'm just an over-analyst. The first time I saw it I compared EVERYTHING in the movie to the book so I wasn't as satisfied because nothing can beat your imagination. I saw it again yesterday though and I appreciated it for the adaptation it was, I feel as if the directors and producers read the book and then adapted the plot to how they wanted the story to be, however if I was making the film I would've kept the original Sequence of Events and followed everything chapter by chapter by chapter, and included the most exciting, entertaining parts of that chapter.
It was also annoying that they didn't include the Howler, "Remember my last Petunia", as J.K. Rowling has announced that in the 7th book someone who is non-magical will use magic (this could be a number of people though, Mrs. Figg, Filch, Dudley etc)
Ah, yes! hahaha, Dudley especially, at the start he was so weird at the playground, it didn't even feel like Harry Potter at that stage...it was like some abstract private film.Disneykid wrote:* What was up with the Dursleys? Did anyone else find their acting to be awkward and stilted?
Sure. I'll go with the first one, when Harry arrives at #12 Grimmauld Place, he walks into the first bedroom on the right and Hermione hugs him, and they start to talk, however Ron and Hermione are just standing there awkwardly, saying "We wanted to write, really we did...but Dumbledore didn't let us", and Harry doesn't really respond and there are a lot of awkward moments in that scene before Fred and George arrive. In the novel, it's meant to be non-stop conversation (and why wouldn't it be? this is the first communication Harry has had with the wizarding world since his enemy returned) They're meant to be talking about, what is the order of the phoenix? who's in it? Do we know where Voldemort is? What have you been doing when I was locked up at the Dursleys?! What is this place? Who's that freaky elf?magicalwands wrote:Josh, could you give an example of this, please?Josh wrote:There aren't any proper conversations and even though they're acting there are a lot of awkward silences.
Soooo many things that could've been put into the script, if only for an extra minute, and it's sad that for a few seconds in this scene you see Rupert, Daniel and Emma...not Ron, Harry and Hermione, which sucks because I've never seen that in a Harry Potter movie (they've always been so enthusiastic and Rupert is really losing his charisma and cheekiness as Ron)
Another weird conversation was of Dumbledore and Harry at the end, the prophecy should've been explained more, about the one with the power who will vanquish the Dark Lord, will be born as the seventh month dies (Harry- July 31, Neville- July 30) born to those who have thrice defied Lord Voldemort (both parents are in the Order) He is marked as the Dark Lords equal (Lord Voldemort and Harry are both Half-bloods) So he didn't really explain WHY Harry is the only one who can kill him, he only explained HOW (he will have power the Dark Lord knows not- Which is, of course, Love)
But don't forget how much I loved this movie
*in regards to Harry's first kiss*
Ron: "Well, how was it?"
Harry: "it was....wet"
That was probably the best conversation in the film, we really saw them for the teenagers they were, just sitting down and relaxing at Hogwarts and gained insight on their relationships.
