hahahaha, no I could go on about the differences between the movie and film for hours! the ones I said before were just a few examples, because I recently read the book twice before the movie came out...I'm a massive Harry Potter nerd. 8) Like another one would be...

* They didn't include the two-way mirror that Harry uses to communicate with Sirius.

* Harry and Sirius only contact eachother via Floo Powder once, in the book they do it several times, one of which Umbridge nearly catches them when we see a chubby hand in the flames.

* Sirius appeared in the flames this time, the special effects weren't as cool when we saw him in 'The Goblet of fire' and he emerged from the perfectly placed embers.

* Hagrid's height is still really inconsistent, first movie he was 9 foot, now he's like 16 feet.

* Sirius gives Harry the original picture, when really it's MadEye Moody at the prefect party...or is it Mundungus, meh, hahaha.

* The family doesn't speak about how Percy is on Fudge's side and Ron never receives the letter from Percy telling him not to be friends with Harry and that he should be polite and praise Umbridge.

* The kids are never ordered into cleaning the Black house, they just sit there and are there for ages.

* OH! And they forgot my FAVORITE! FAVORITE! scene, where Molly goes to the drawing room to kill the Boggart, and Harry walks in and sees Ron dead on the ground, and Molly is sobbing, "rid-rid-ridiculus!" CRACK! Dead twins CRACK! Dead Ginny CRACK! Dead Charlie CRACK! Dead Harry. That would've been soooooo awesome, argh! hahaha.

I could point out the differences from the entire film but I'd rather not, you guys are probably starting to think I didn't enjoy it when I absolutely loved it, I'm just an over-analyst. The first time I saw it I compared EVERYTHING in the movie to the book so I wasn't as satisfied because nothing can beat your imagination. I saw it again yesterday though and I appreciated it for the adaptation it was, I feel as if the directors and producers read the book and then adapted the plot to how they wanted the story to be, however if I was making the film I would've kept the original Sequence of Events and followed everything chapter by chapter by chapter, and included the most exciting, entertaining parts of that chapter.

It was also annoying that they didn't include the Howler, "Remember my last Petunia", as J.K. Rowling has announced that in the 7th book someone who is non-magical will use magic (this could be a number of people though, Mrs. Figg, Filch, Dudley etc)
Disneykid wrote:* What was up with the Dursleys? Did anyone else find their acting to be awkward and stilted?
Ah, yes! hahaha, Dudley especially, at the start he was so weird at the playground, it didn't even feel like Harry Potter at that stage...it was like some abstract private film.

Josh wrote:There aren't any proper conversations and even though they're acting there are a lot of awkward silences.
Josh, could you give an example of this, please?
Sure. I'll go with the first one, when Harry arrives at #12 Grimmauld Place, he walks into the first bedroom on the right and Hermione hugs him, and they start to talk, however Ron and Hermione are just standing there awkwardly, saying "We wanted to write, really we did...but Dumbledore didn't let us", and Harry doesn't really respond and there are a lot of awkward moments in that scene before Fred and George arrive. In the novel, it's meant to be non-stop conversation (and why wouldn't it be? this is the first communication Harry has had with the wizarding world since his enemy returned) They're meant to be talking about, what is the order of the phoenix? who's in it? Do we know where Voldemort is? What have you been doing when I was locked up at the Dursleys?! What is this place? Who's that freaky elf?
Soooo many things that could've been put into the script, if only for an extra minute, and it's sad that for a few seconds in this scene you see Rupert, Daniel and Emma...not Ron, Harry and Hermione, which sucks because I've never seen that in a Harry Potter movie (they've always been so enthusiastic and Rupert is really losing his charisma and cheekiness as Ron)

Another weird conversation was of Dumbledore and Harry at the end, the prophecy should've been explained more, about the one with the power who will vanquish the Dark Lord, will be born as the seventh month dies (Harry- July 31, Neville- July 30) born to those who have thrice defied Lord Voldemort (both parents are in the Order) He is marked as the Dark Lords equal (Lord Voldemort and Harry are both Half-bloods) So he didn't really explain WHY Harry is the only one who can kill him, he only explained HOW (he will have power the Dark Lord knows not- Which is, of course, Love)

But don't forget how much I loved this movie :D I'm seeing it tomorrow in 3D :D hahaha, finally, I know this is a bit random, but:

*in regards to Harry's first kiss*
Ron: "Well, how was it?"
Harry: "it was....wet"

That was probably the best conversation in the film, we really saw them for the teenagers they were, just sitting down and relaxing at Hogwarts and gained insight on their relationships.

Just saw it for a second time tonight and liked it even more this time. I noticed a lot of small details I didn't quite pick up on the first time. Can't wait to see it again! I'm currently re-reading HP5 (and not making satisfactory progress, considering I still want to re-read #6 before #7), so I'll join in on the more detailed conversation after I'm done.

I saw HP 5 yesterday and like many others here absolutely LOVED it!!! a ver close second to the third movie that is IMHO still the best. But there are so many things in the 5th movie, especially little details that to me compensate the loss of other scenes like the Boggart scene, more of Grimmauld Place, and the visit to St. Mungo's hospital.

Some little details that I adored are:
-Luna's appearance, complete with radish earrings and such..
-The goat in the Hog's Head
- Neville's Mimbulus Mimbletonia
-the little baby Thestral

I think it really helped the plot and the whole movie that little side-plots were cut out which made this movie and its story very clear and not as clip-like as I felt HP4 was.
The showdown is absolutely stunning and couldn't have been done better. Sirius's death was very carefully handled and felt "right".

Things I did not like:

-No Lily Potter in the flashback
-The ending felt rushed. The prophecy and Dumbledore's explanation is THE crucial moment in the series and should have been explained better, since as it is now much infromation was left out that might e a problem later in the series. But we'll see. Still the scene where Dumbledore explains Harry everything is so wonderfully written and some of JKR's best work, not only plot-wise, but also the wonderful dialogue and the feeling of grief, "enlightenment", sadness, astonishment.... all at the same time is what makes the ending of the 5th book so great. In the movie it was all left out except for the main parts of the prophecy.
-The litte screen time of the Order
-No St. Mungo's.

Things I LOVED:

-Tonks. Natalia Tena did a great job.
-Luna. Evanna Lynch IS Luna, fantastic job.
-Details!!
-Really nice score, better than 4.
-Wizard Duel betwenn Dumbeldore and Voldemort
-Bellatrix Lestrange, this role just seems to have been created for Helena Bonham-Carter.
-Fred and George. They had quite a lot of screen time and the little scene in which the comfort the little boy is sweet.
Last but not least, Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbridge!!! Abolutely amzing performance.

There will always be differences between the movie and the book, but this time they didn't bug me as much as in HP4. #5 is such an amazing movie that I don't mind the slight changes to the story.

I too enjoyed the film...for a book that was over 1000 pages long, they managed to do a good job of getting the important plot elements into a small timespans via funny montages, the newspaper montages got annoying for a little while. Unlike the Goblet of Fire, OOTP seemed much less choppy and was done much more smoothly with a beautiful score. ME WANT SOUNDTRACK.

I was also a bit confused by the lack of Lily Potter (seeing that she was cast). I have a feeling however that THERE MAY A DELETED SCENE of Snape's memory and more that we'll see on the DVD.

The other thing that surprised me was that once again Ginny had a little-to-none role. I wouldve assumed that Ginny's role would be a little bit bigger in this film to build her up for her big role in HBP. It makes me worry about how Yates is going to handle "the relationship" in HBP.

Luna Lovegood was awesome! I thought that the casting choice was poor at first because she looked too normal but her voice and personality won me over!

The fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort = badass

My friend was getting on me about seeing it in IMAX but I didnt want to wait till the weekend and the nearest IMAX was an hour drive. Now having seen that fight scene we are seriously considering seeing the movie again at that IMAX. I gots no beef with that

Wow, am I the only one who didn't find Goblet of Fire choppy? In my opinion, the Harry Potter film with the clunkiest editing is Sorcerer's Stone, and that's mainly because the book and script were so episodic. I thought all of the others flowed better, though movies three and five went slightly overboard in the editing department (especially considering the latter lost a whopping 45 minutes of footage).

First off, let me say I hated every Potter-movie that came before this. They just didn't work.
Secondly, I've only seen this one once, and seeing it in theaters may have clouded my judgement.
Now then. I lóved HP5!
First three reasons:
Tonks. Not at all like I imagined (she looked more like Madam Hooch from the first Potter Movie in my mind, only somewhat leaner and with bright pink hair. On that note: the hair wasn't bright enough), but I did love her.
Luna. Like Toonaspie, I first thought her casting wasn't that great, and I'd alwas imagined Luna with sleek black hair (no idea why). But, like Toonaspie also said, her voice (!) and personality were spot-on.
Bellatrix! Oh my God, did Helena know what to do with that role. To use John Barrowman's catchphrase: fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!

What I didn't like was something in the end battle. They were in front of the fountain the entire time, so I was waiting for it to come to life. It didn't.
There are, of course, mány more (and more serious) things that bothered me, but I don't want to go into detail just now.

I did love some of the details. Neville's cactus, Percy just standing there... Sure, it may seem a bit pointless to have Percy in the movie as a background character, but I loved it. Just one of those little details for the fans to enjoy.

This was the first Potter-film that I didn't hate for a long time (I don't remember wether I liked CoS on my first viewing. I remember I loved PS, but I was young...), I hope that doesn't change with a second viewing.

I got to say I feel somehow disappointed
It have been always told that the book is always better than the movie, and this is one of those cases

we couldn't see much of all the important stuff, or the interesting at least, and in some points the movie began to be boring and even tedious

Okay, I lied. I didn't go see the film because my parental units did not want to take me because they wanted to leave an hour early to go 2 1/2 miles. Now I'm just curious as to when I'm going to see it and what I'll think about it.

Just came out of the theatre. I loved it. Everyone summed up everything I liked from the movie. From the flashbacks from the movies to the scene with Fred and George comforting Nigel and Ginny's jealousy glances of Cho. Nicholas Hooper did a way better job with the score for OOTP than what Patrick Doyle did for GOF. I just wished he used Harry's theme more.

Oh yeah, and I got teary (yes, I admit it) when Voldemort possessed Harry. All the flashbacks of Harry's parents and friends...makes me think of everyone in my life.

Well, I'm glad Yates is coming back for the 6th. And I'm really happy HBP isn't as long as OOTP. (Maybe they can fit Quidditch!) By the way, OOTP isn't as long as first glance of the book, it's actually longer. The font size for OOTP is 11.5 while the other books are 12.

They are. Rupert Grint confirmed there'll be a Quidditch match shown in movie 6. Some people are speculating that the "Weasley is Our King" storyline from book five will be inserted into movie six. That actually makes perfect sense to me. The film can combine the last match shown in OotP (where Ron makes a fool of himself but Harry manages to catch the snitch and win, anyway) with that of HBP (Luna's hilarious commentary in place of Lee Jordan's). Then, when Harry misses the last match due to detention for using Sectusempra on Malfoy, he comes back to the Gryffindor common room not knowing how the match went. He hears "Weasley is Our King" being sung and thinks they lost, until the portrait hole opens and he sees all the Gryffindors singing it joyously. This is where they can have Ginny run up to Harry shouting, "We've won!" and him kissing her. I really hope this is how they approach this. Not only would it be great to have Quidditch back (and in David Yates' intense style), but it'd offer more screentime for both Ron and Luna.

I would be over-joyed if they had quidditch in the next film, only so they can have Luna's commentary! If they have quidditch, but don't have that, then they blew a completely golden opportunity for a great scene.

Josh wrote:Luna Lovegood only has like...60 seconds of dialogue.
Okay, I think you're really exaggerating. If anything, she was almost a bigger character than Hermione in this film!
Josh wrote:Snapes worst memory is a collage of flashbacks, there's no talking and you don't see Lily Potter at all.
Um, but there IS talking in the flashbacks! I distinctly heard them calling Snape names and Harry's dad saying he'll do something to Snape's pants.

I just wanted to come in here and say Luna Lovegood is my favorite character of the movies for sure. And is it just me or does she seem like a much better love interest than Cho? Too bad she doesn't become one in book 6.

And didn't she always have light blonde hair in the book?

Actually, he's the same height, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to fit in his hut.

About Quidditch, I am glad we will have one last match to watch and enjoy. This really is the coolest sport. It's what makes Harry Potter different from other magical fantasy stories. Plus, I want to get the movie's tune to Weasley is Our King so I can sing it to the world! :D

I have seen it twice now. Iwish they would have had the part when Harry is in Dumbledores office and he looks into the Pencieve I believe is what it was called and they have the court seen where Bella gets trialed for her crimes

I think that was in GOF where she was trialled along with Barty Crouch Jr.
