No real radical changes? All the titles you mentioned have changed titles! Only The Hunchback of Notre Dame is practicly the same.bean:therio wrote:Some translations of films here in the Netherlands:
Basil, The Great Mouse Detective - De Speurneuzen ("The detectives")
The Black Cauldron - Taran en de toverketel ("Taran and the Magical Cauldron")
The Emperors new groove - Keizer Kuzco ("Emperor Kuzco")
The Fox and the Hound - Frank en Frey ("Frank and Frey")
Fun and Fancy Free - Vrij en vrolijk ("Free and merry")
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - Het grote verhaal van Winnie de Poeh ("The big story of Winnie the Pooh")
The Rescuers down under - De reddertjes in Kangaroeland ("The Rescuers in Kangaroo land")
The Sword in the Stone - Merlijn de tovenaar ("Merlin the sourcerer")
Treasure planet - Piratenplaneet: De Schat Van Kapitein Flint ("Pirate planet: the treasure of captain Flint ")
The Hunchback of Notre Dame - De klokkenluider van de Notre Dame ("The bell-ringer of the Notre Dame")
Most Dutch translations tend to stick to the original English title quite well. No real radical changes here.
Also, Buena Vista has announced that "Home on the Range" will be called "Herrie op de Prairie" here. (Translated "Tumult on the Prairie")

Yes, but I haven't mentioned the titles of which the titles haven't been changed from the American original. Also: there's no real titles in this list with a 'B-movie feel' to it, which I saw in some of the lists in this thread. That should count for something.Jens wrote: No real radical changes? 'Big loud noise on the prairie' is probably a better translation. Now *THAT* is a title with a 'B-movie feel' to it!Jens wrote: Also, Buena Vista has announced that "Home on the Range" will be called "Herrie op de Prairie" here. (Translated "Tumult on the Prairie")
You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles.
finding nemo is Op zoek naar Nemo=Looking for Nemo
Jeyh and now Brother Bear is called just Brother Bear no change at al.
Althoug they could have translated it to Broeder Beer, but that's a direct translation.
Also it looks like that since the DVD release of the Lion King, in the netherlands every that has something to do with it will be released under it's english name, instead of de Leeuwenkoning(in the time the movie came out in the cinema it was called de leeuwekoning, but the grammar rules change in holland and it had to be called leeuwenkoning. ) So the the third Lion King movie wil been know here not as de Leeuwenkoning 3: Hakuna matata but as the lion king 3.
Oh jeeh one thing
Lady and Tramp is here know as Lady en de Vagebond= Lady and the Tramp

"The Rescuers" was aired in our free-to-air TV about two weeks ago, and they called it "Bernard and Bianca in Secret Mission" (!!!).
They have been airing a lot of Disney films here since January... They have already aired: Dumbo, The Three Caballeros, Alice in Wonderland, The Rescuers, The Fox and the Hound, Pete's Dragon and Bedknobs and Broomsticks. I think they may air Song of the South and The Rescuers Down Under pretty soon.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire was called Atlantis: De Verloren Stad in the Netherlands. Translation: Atlantis: The Sunken (?, is that correct English?) City. I'm glad Buena Vista Holland (and Belgium) put the English titles on the DVD since The Lion King.
Disney's musical Tarzan. Coming to Holland 2007.

The thing is that the Finding Nemo actually means Encontrando a Nemo, but in spanish this is a sentence that doesn't make sense, I can't explain why, but as I am Spanish I can tell you that it's a sentence that doesn't really mean anything, that is why they called it Buscando a Nemo (Looking for Nemo)MickeyMouseboy wrote:Learning Spanish With Mickey Mouse Boy

cool... I'm not the only person from germanyWalt Forever wrote:Loomis wrote:I'm not from Germany, but I speak a little bit of Deutsch, and I always love how they include the names of people in their titles:
Arielle, die Meerjungfrau 2: Sehnsucht nach dem Meer (Ariel, the Young Mermaid 2: Longing after the Sea). I like that translation, because it speaks more of her desire to "return". Mind you, the obvious use of the name "Ariel" for the first film made the title of the sequel misleading.
The Sword in the Stone becomes Die Hexe und der Zauberer (The Witch and the Magician), shifting the dynamic slightly...

Keep this up - I'm interested in other translations/meanings...
Hi Loomis, cool that you speak a little German, so: Hallo Loomis, und wie geht´s? Grüße aus Deutschland!
I´ve found some more german disney film titles:
Sleeping Beauty = Dornröschen ("thorn rose")
Lady and the Tramp = Susi und Strolch (Susie and Tramp, but the word Strolch sounds very funny in Germany, cause you don´t use that very often anymore, for Tramp you´d say "Streuner, Tramper, ...", "Strolch" you say to someone who is trashy and does bad things like stealing.![]()
101 Dalmatians = Pongo und Perdita (the names)
Hunchback of Notre Dame = Glöckner von Notre Dame (the bellringer of Notre Dame)
Song of the South = YES, THAT ONE WAS AVAILABLE ON VHS and was titled: "Onkel Remus´ Wunderland" (Uncle Remus´ Wonderland).
But my favorite title is:
Swiss Family Robinson = Dschungel der 1000 Gefahren (Jungle of 1000 dangers) - sounds like a great adventure film!
Ich mag übrigends die Originaltitel lieber
The great mouse detective - Basil der große Mäusedeteltiv
Finding nemo - Findet Nemo (Find nemo!)
Atlantis The lost empire - Atlantis Das Geheimnis der verlorenen Stadt (Atlantis The secret of the lost city)
A búg's life - Das große Krabbeln (The big crawling)
Pete's Dragon - Elliott das Schmunzelmonster (Elliott the smiling Monster)
Bedknobs and Broomsticks - Die tollkühne Hexe in ihrem fliegenden Bett (The foolhardy witch in her flying bed)
The emperors new Groove - Ein Königreich für ein Lama (A kingdom for a lama)
The black cauldron - Taran und der Zauberkessel (Taran and the magic cauldron)
Brother Bear - Bärenbrüber (Bear Brothers)
Home on the range - Die Kühe sind los (The cows are gone)
