International Disney titles

I was wondering, some times, the Disney movies are retitled when released in international territories. Here in Brazil, some Disney films receive new names as well.
Maybe if the people from different countries here could tell us the different names which Disney movies are called in their home country.

I'll start... Of course, I will loosely translate the titles.

The Three Caballeros - Você Já Foi à Bahia? (Have You Ever Been To Bahia?)

Make Mine Music - Música, Maestro! (Music, Maestro!)

Fun and Fancy Free - Como é Bom Se Divertir (something like "It's So Good To Have Fun")

Melody Time - Now it is called "Tempo de Melodia" (literal translation, Melody Time), but in its original release it was called "Cante com Disney" (Sing Along With Disney)

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad - Dois Sujeitos Fabulosos (Two Fabulous Characters)

Cinderellla - In its original release in theaters it was called "A Gata Borralheira" (The Ash Girl). In the first video released, the film was called "Cinderella: The Ash Girl". Finally, for the last video release, they simply called it "Cinderela".

Lady And the Tramp - A Dama e o Vagabundo (THE Lady and the Tramp)

101 Dalmatians - It was originally called "A Guerra dos Dálmatas" (The War of the Dalmatians). Now it is known by its original title.

The Sword in the Stone - A Espada Era a Lei (The Sword Was The Law)

The Jungle Book - Mogli, O Menino Logo (Mowgli, The Wolf-Boy)

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - In it's original release (when they used to call the character by the name of "Puff") it was called "Puff - O Ursinho Guloso" (Pooh - The Hungry Bear)

The Rescuers - Bernardo e Bianca (Bernard and Bianca)

The Fox and the Hound - O Cão e a Raposa (The Hound and the Fox) When originally released, it was also know as "The Hound and the Fox - Enemyes Friends".

The Black Cauldron - O Caldeirão Mágico (The Magic Cauldron)

The Great Mouse Detective - As Peripécias do Ratinho Detetive (something like "The Peripetias of the Little Mouse Detective")

Oliver & Company - Originally called "Oliver & Company", when released on video they called it "Oliver and his Gang".

The Rescuers Down Under - Bernardo e Bianca na Terra dos Cangurus (Bernard and Bianca in Kangaroo Land)

Pocahontas - Here in Brazil it received an infamous subtitle: "O Encontro de Dois Mundos" (The Meeting of Two Worlds)

Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Atlantis: O Reino Perdido (Atlantis: The Lost Kingdom)

Home on the Range - Now, this one is really hard to translate, because it is a popular expression... "Nem Que a Vaca Tussa" (Not Even If The Cow Coughs)

Well, I hope my international friends can add more curious titles to the list.

"The Littlest Horse Theives" is known as "Escape From The Dark" in the UK and the live action "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" is known simply as "The Wind in the Willows" in the UK.

The Mighty Ducks movies have the odd change: "The Mighty Ducks" is "The Mighty Ducks are the Champions" in the UK, while similar changes are made for the sequels.

I can't think of any more UK changes.

Hmm, as far as live-action goes, there have been some curious changes, most of which I can't remember...
"So Dear to My Heart": "Meu Querido Carneirinho" (My Dear Little Lamb)
"Old Yeller": "Meu Melhor Companheiro" (My Best Buddie)
"Pete's Dragon": "Meu Amigo, o Dragão" (My Friend, the Dragon)
"Bedknobs and Broomsticks": "Se Minha Cama Voasse" (If My Bed Could Fly)
"Disney's The Kid": "Duas Vidas" (Two Lives)

Of course Joe, This is an interesting subject.

If we gonna look the title of our brother in latin america we also find very intrestings titles like : "Las locuras del imperador" = The crazyness of the emperor (Emperor´s new groove).

Pocahontas - Here in Brazil it received an infamous subtitle: "O Encontro de Dois Mundos" (The Meeting of Two Worlds)

I Like the word "infamous", but you forget the "infamous" subtitle of Toy Story " Um mundo de aventuras" (a world of adventures ) of course, this subtitle doesn´t apper in the dvd version of the movie (and i think that in pocahontas will not apper too).

Of course, The Lion King 1 1/2 is The Lion King III: Hakuna Matata internationally. I like the USA title better and it's just one of the perks of being a US citizen. But I really think it should have been "The Lion King 1 1/2: Hakuna Matata," as was previously reported.

Good one Thiago... It is also worth noting that "Finding Nemo" is called "Looking for Nemo" here.

By the way, I'd like to correct something... The original title of "101 Dalmatians" is not "The Runaway of the 101 Dalmatians", but "The War of the Dalmatians".

Another curious title... "The Absent-Minded Professor": "O Fantástico Super-Homem" (The Fantastic Super-Man).

Hmm, now I remember that the original title of "Peter Pan" here was "The Adventures of Peter Pan".

I'm not from Germany, but I speak a little bit of Deutsch, and I always love how they include the names of people in their titles:

Arielle, die Meerjungfrau 2: Sehnsucht nach dem Meer (Ariel, the Young Mermaid 2: Longing after the Sea). I like that translation, because it speaks more of her desire to "return". Mind you, the obvious use of the name "Ariel" for the first film made the title of the sequel misleading.

The Sword in the Stone becomes Die Hexe und der Zauberer (The Witch and the Magician), shifting the dynamic slightly...

The Rescuers becomes (Bernard und Bianca)...I don't need to translate that, do I?

A Bug's Life...Das große Krabbeln. Not sure if I'm translating right...The Big Crawl?

I REALLY like this one: Snow Dogs - 8 Helden auf 4 Pfoten (Snow Dogs 8 Heroes on 4 Paws)...hee hee hee

Fox and the Hound (Cap und Capper)...also Oshii's fave...2099 will get that joke...

The Black Cauldron also includes a name: Taran und der Zauberkessel (Taran and the Magic Boiler literally! Taran and the Magic Cauldron would be more accurate...).

And finally, The Emporer's New Groove becomes Ein Königreich für ein Lama (A Kingdom for a Llama).

Keep this up - I'm interested in other translations/meanings...

Home on the Range - Now, this one is really hard to translate, because it is a popular expression... "Nem Que a Vaca Tussa" (Not Even If The Cow Coughs)

OMG, I didn't even notice that one! That is a classic!
If Disney named it that across the globe, 2D animation would be saved with a $700 million domestic gross
I can dream, can't I?

I think I'll have to buy the Brazilian copy when it is available, just for that title

I know "Nem Que a Vaca Tussa" (Not Even If the Cow Coughs... ) may sound REALLY weird for you out there, but here in Brazil it is a popular expression... For example, when you really don't want to do something, you answer "nem que a vaca tussa" (not even if the cow coughs...).

I can only imagines the jokes that may be created around this title...
"Are you going to see this movie? Not even if the cow coughs".

By the way, I think that not even if the cow coughs this movie is going to receive the attention it should. I only hope Disney doens't pull an "Emperor's New Groove" here.

Fun and Fancy Free - Bongo och Musse Pigg och Bönstjälken/Pank och fågelfri (Bongo and Mickey Mouse and the Beanstalk/Penniless and free as a bird - *tricky* our expression of the sentence fun and fancy free )

The Black Cauldron: Taran en de toverketel (Taran and the Magic Cauldron)

Ah, that reminded me of the complete Finnish title for The Rescuers, it is "Pelastuspartio Bernard ja Bianca" (The Rescue Patrol Bernard and Bianca).

In some countries, "The Sword In The Stone" is known as "Merlin, The Magician".

In some (all?) Spanish-speaking countries, "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" is called "The Best of Pooh". Hmm, and in Spain (I think) "Brother Bear" was retitled "Land of the Bears".

In France, "The Rescuers" is "The Adventures of Bernard and Bianca". "Pocahontas'" has also received a subtitle there: "Une Legend Indigene" (which, I presume, means "An Indigenous Legend").

In some Asian countries, "The Hunchback" is "The Bells of Notre Dame".

Here in Brazil, "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" is "Aladdin and the 40 Thieves". "Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas" is "It Happened on Mickey's Christmas". And "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" was turned into "A Trap To Roger Rabbit".

In some countries (like here in Brazil) the infamous "Hunchback of Notre Dame II" received a subtitle: The Secret of the Bell.
