Oh that one is pretty cool too, I like it's simplicity. I'm really excited for the updated R1 cover art - it looks pretty good to me.

Wow!!! They've finally decided to post a new cover!!!!! YAY!! Well, it is definately an improvement, I just wish that Disney had gone with the second one (the one without the random monkies). It just made it a HECK OF A LOT less crowded and more appealing to me. But I guess I'm just nitpicking because I've waited for this Platinum DVD for years now....not much longer!! I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL OCTOBER!!

I believe the 2nd cover that Blackcaludron (Amy) presented was suited for the forigen release, like I said before, I wouldn't having 2 covers, the new one for the kids, and the mature cover for Teens/Adult collectors.

Hopefully, this means that the Platinum Edition will be presented in full screen instead of widescreen. If so, I'm definitely buying it! :) :D

No, the press release already said that it would be 1.75:1, so it probably won't be fullscreen. What's wrong with widescreen? I mean, it was the way that the film was supposed look.

We all pretty much KNOW that Jungle Book will have a matted widescreen picture. So the 1.75:1 (I believe that's the correct ratio...) WILL be included. However, it's still debated as to wether or not Disney will include the restored fullscreen picture on this set as well as the widescreen picture. (ala: Lady and the Tramp and Sleeping Beauty). I don't believe it's very likely, though.

Sequel- I don't think it's a matter of people not liking widescreen. Its a matter of being able to see the ENTIRE picture. As you likely know, when you matt a fullscreen picture into widescreen, you loose a certain percentage (don't remember the exact percent but movie guru's like Escapay can likely tell you) of the picture. Now while I personally understand that widescreen was the aspect ratio that Disney intended his audiences to view the film in, others still find it somewhat "morally wrong" to chop off a part of the picture. Some might even view this as similar to cutting down a widescreen film to make it FOOLscreen.

Personally, I do wish Disney would release the fullscreen release of TJB. However, I have that taken care of by buying the Limited Issue so that now I can own both versions of the film. :D

Seriously, I used to love full screen because it seemed better that it filled the entire screen. I have since learned the error of my ways and now I only watch movies in widescreen.

It's not debated because Disney only releases their PEs in their theatrical form unless the directors want it changed. Since the directors for TJB are not alive, it will most likely, only be in matted 1.75:1. That's been known for awhile. LatT was shown in both Widescreen and Fullscreen in theaters, that's why it has both on its DVD. SB probably was, too, though I am uncertain about that one.

Well, it's a little different than all that. The fullscreen version on Lady and the Tramp's DVD isn't the fullscreen version shown in theaters. The theater version actually shifted the characters around to fit the 1.33:1 window whereas the DVD is pan and scan. Disney would've had to hire Lowry Digital to restore the original fullframe version apart from the widescreen one, which would've taken more time and money. Sleeping Beauty's ratio was never altered in theaters since more theaters had widescreen capabilities in 1959 than in 1955.

It seems to me that Lady and the Tramp and Sleeping Beauty received fullscreen versions in their sets because they're both very wide films, and Disney probably wanted to placate soccer moms that complain the films look too narrow on their standard TVs. Disney also probably figures that those moms aren't as annoyed with less wide films in the 1.66:1 ratio to 1.85:1 ratio, so they let those be.

I got the impression from Sleeping Beauty's trailers that both versions were shown in cinemas. One trailer says something like "only in this theatre in this area you can see this film in widescreen with stereophonic sound", which could mean that smaller theatres showed a pan&scan version with mono sound.

I have also understood that films like Jungle Book were animated in 4:3 so that they could be shown open matte in smaller theatres, which still had an 4:3 screen. That's what someone from the Finnish Film Archives told me when I asked about the technical specs of a film they were showing some years ago. I think it was The Aristocats - and indeed they showed it open matte.

This is one of the only reasons I'm looking forward to the end of summer! (oh.....that and it's 101 degrees in the SHADE today).

Anyway, I've never owned this movie on DVD or VHS and cannot wait to get my hands on the Platinum Edition! :) Thanks for all of the news and updates.

I know it is a bit petty, but has anyone found/seen a picture of the new Jungle Book cover art that shows the spine too? I have seen various pictures of the first drafts of the cover art, some of which show Baloo's picture on the spine and some that show Mowgli's picture. I am just wondering which character will appear in the picture on the spine.

Thank you! I'm glad that Baloo is featured on the spine, that's who I was hoping for.

I actually would prefer it if Mowgli were on the spine since, you know, he is the protagonist. It doesn't really bother me, though, since this film is sort of a buddy picture, in which case having Baloo on the spine isn't so far-fetched.

Maybe Mowgli will be on the other side of the slip case, like buzz and woody on the toy story 10th AE
