Gave John Tucker Must Die another viewing, and this film really holds up on the second or third time around. Jesse Metcalf is really not a bad actor, he has just been stuck with some really poor scripts. Thank goodness Desperate Housewives writers saw his talent and made him Gaby's teenage gardner, which is where the producers of "John Tucker" first saw him.
If you haven't seen "John Tucker Must Die", you owe yourself a favor to watch a very funny movie.

The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!

Pirates of the Caribbean- At world's end
I enjoyed it a lot!!! I was really apprehensive after reading several reviews (including UD's) for the movie, so I didn't expect much, but I did enjoy it a lot more than I had expected. I hadn't really liked the second one, but the third one is great. Of course not a good as the first one, but still good entertainment. Many laughs, complex story, great action squences! Simply fun to watch.

I enjoyed At World's End too, very complex yet alil darker than the first 2 films. Some parts of the plot were hard to follow so I watched 1 and 2 again yet I still haven't come up with a conclusion of what's happening.Dottie wrote:Pirates of the Caribbean- At world's end

Recently watched: Johnny Tremain, wonderful history film that seems to have Walt's personal touch. My 5th grade teacher showed it in class and it went over our head. Now that I've seen it again in a mature way, I'm very appreciatve of our culture.

Over the weekended I went to go see Mr. Brooks. It was okay, I felt it could have been a little better, but for the most part it was an interesting suspense movie. I was surprised to see Danielle Panabacker in it and it really shocked me when :spoiler starts here: she got a pair of scissors and rammed them into Kevin Costners Neck. Turned out it was only a dream for the character Mr. Brooks(Kevin Costner).

Labyrinth (1986). Which I haven't seen in over a decade until last night. In many ways, it stands up to the incredible memories I have of it. Certainly, the music remains as amazing as I remember it. Though... "Magic Dance" is my least favorite of the songs and "Chilly Down" is now one of my favorites. One thing troubles me however... Jennifer Connolly's performance. Or at least, the way she was put together in the film. No, I can forgive her shrill-pitched, ear-piercing tirade at the beginning of the film because of what it was meant to represent. But a couple of times I simply felt like she wasn't reacting well. Especially when she hears Toby's room go quiet at the beginning, the costume ball sequence, and the shot right before she jumps in the Labyrinth maze into the final conversation with the Goblin King. Her face freezes in the same emotion and she doesn't emote / change expressions / react with any degree of realization. Because of this and a slight confusion about the message of the movie (throw away childish things but keep your childhood friends because they will always stay the same? What is that supposed to mean, how do they co-relate?), I have to give it a B+ rather than anything in the A range.

With my mom out of town and just us guys at home, my dad and I wanted to go see a good guy flick (think the total opposite of chick flick: guys flock to 'em, females flee from 'em
). So, we headed over to the dollar theater and saw Shooter, the Mark Wahlberg sniper pic from last March. We enjoyed it overall, it had great action sequences and a fairly good plot. I'd give it a 7/10.

God Told Me To (1976) - hmm... This movie is a lot like it's villain. You see it but you can't remember its' face. If I'm judging it based on how satisfied I felt after it ended... it wasn't very good. But I've seen it before. I sort-of liked it the first time. It's still a pretty confusing movie. Looks like it may have been some kind of influence over the film Donnie Darko (2001). If you like that film, you might want to check out GTMT. I'll have to watch it again sometime. B-
Q the Winged Serpent (1982) - still amazing. A. I encourage everyone who likes horror, monster movies, Law & Order, any of that sort of thing to check this film out asap. It can hardly be described.

Haven't kept up with this thread in a long time, but as the summer movie-watching season has returned, I'll try to pick back up. Here are my recent viewings and jumbled thoughts to accompany them:
Ghost Rider (2007) - Three times (1 theatrical cut, 2 commentaries). Review here: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/ghostrider.html
Houseguest (1995) - I loved this movie. Funny, warm, a solid story, and awesome '90s nostalgia. What's not to love? Definitely one to return to.
Moulin Rouge! (2001) - Somehow, I had never seen this, despite many attempts to do so. I really liked it -- Baz Luhrmann is clearly very visual and I loved the aesthetic here, as with <i>Romeo + Juliet</i> (which I though MR! was similar too in a number of ways). I enjoyed the story and the music, though the proceedings were a little too pink and frilly, if you will, and the music a little too contemporary to count it among my favorite movie musicals or anything. Occasionally, it slipped a little into hectic silliness, but not too terribly. Kidman's acting was a delight as always, but it was McGregor who stole the show with both acting and singing.
The African Queen (1951) - Fantastic film, brilliantly written and acted. I always love seeing a WWI story told from a unique perspective. Spoiler: My only complaint is how quickly Hepburn's character got over (or at least seemed to) the death of her brother. It made it seem like just a convenient way to set up the story.
