Shrek the Third Discussion Thread (Warning Spoilers Ahead)
just got back from it. and wow, I think I only laughed-er chuckled a bit about 4 times. I was expecting at least one cool opening or closing sequence set to smash mouth's "story of my life" based on the trailers and I didn't even get that.
merlin was cool, but underused. he could have made for some more creative gags. the whole movie was like a very long unfunny skit. even snl at its worst had more funny moments than this.
I will list a few things I found funny though.
the gingerbread man's life flashing before his eyes and singing.
donkey hissing.
I wont be buying it on dvd. it was a sucky movie, and I have no obligation to buy crap. just see it in theatres. (its a cultural thing, pretty much Everyone sees shrek, no matter who you are)

Since I missed King Harold's death, I felt like I missed a huge part of the movie, however minor and badly done it was. Heck, I just thought it was sad that he died at all! I also was sad that I missed hearing John Cleese. I eternally associate John Cleese with his Swan Princess frog.
I think the second movie had a much, well, happier ending than the first. Good guys find true love. Good for them. Now, it's babies and tired-out parents.

I'm trying to think of a third movie that was any good. The only one that I know is "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", which is still the best Harry Potter movie, IMO. Though that may not count, as it's not like a trilogy.
Oh, and "The Return of the King", I mean, it did win best picture, but it was also making up for the times the first two movies lost best picture. Still, I like the movie.
The only aspect of "Shrek 2" I liked was Puss in Boots. Were it not for that, there'd be nothing appealing about the movie to me. I moderately enjoyed the first one, but there's only so many animated fart/burp/vomit jokes I can take before I feel something's just not worth it.

I liked Shrek the third. I thought it was funny, entertaining, and I enjoyed it much more than Spiderman 3, which was the consensus of my entire group that saw both movies together.
As far as Disney bashing, lets not forget that Disney didn't create these stories. They produced the most popular adaptations by far, but I don't think they own the rights to the stories by any means. I didn't see any of the characters as bashing Disney really..

I saw it on Saturday evening.
I definitely need another viewing, because two of my kids were being so bad during the movie that I was terribly distracted during 1/2 hour or more of it. (Maybe a sign that the movie wasn't good enough to hold their attention?) I totally missed the Mary Poppins reference.
I thought the movie was good for what it's worth. I wasn't looking for it to be the best movie of the year, or anything like that. There were some good jokes, and the dronkeys were amazingly cute. I loved the storyline about Shrek doubting that he'll be a good father, yet coaching Arthur along the way home like a good father would. His nightmare about all the little Shrek babies was hilarious. The music wasn't up to par this time.
I might go again by myself just to see the parts I missed.

Well I saw it today on our long weekend and I was a tad disappointed. I think that the story was barely there and what was was very rushed or not explained (The climax, lack of pre-death bed king, why Mabel was mad at Doris who was in with the princesses). Although I did find there to be a lot of funny bits like Gingy's life flashing before his eyes and going into "the good ship lollypop". Over all I rank the films like this...
1. Shrek 2 (Just right)
2. Shrek the Third
3. Shrek (Too slow at times & too many burp/fart gags)
4. Shrek 3/4-D (fun but as a short it’s rushed and does not seem to make all that much sense.)

I'll try and explain this as best I can (if anyone more knowledgeable about this has anything constructive to add, it would be most welcomePrudence wrote:Hm?JiminyCrick91 wrote: Shrek 3/4-D (fun but as a short it’s rushed and does not seem to make all that much sense.)

Shrek 4-D was one of those 3D shows that's also a ride... I think at Universal theme park. You know, one of those 3D shows where your seat moves to the motion they're going through on-screen and you wear those 3D glasses.
This was released on DVD with those red and blue 3D glasses and you could watch the special in "3D" with those glasses, or regularly. It was called "Shrek 3D" for the DVD. It was packaged with the first Shrek (the single-disc one) probably around the time Shrek 2 came out.
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

Mm-hm. What -happened- in it?
Is it just me or have you completely forgotten about Cinderella III? Twas the best third installment so far this year.Disneyfreak1990 wrote:is it me or are the third movies always the worst film? like X3 wasn't as good as X1 or X2 and people are saying the same with Spidy and now with Shrek. i hope Pirates dosen't suffer from this fate.

Well, that's a matter of opinion. I personally thought it was a ludicrous idea and made for an equally ludicrous movie. Particularly for a movie that is perhaps the classic "happily ever after" ending, which should never require a follow-up.Prudence wrote:Mm-hm. What -happened- in it?

I was talking to Disneyfreak1990, who did like the movie, from what I remember.SpringHeelJack wrote:Well, that's a matter of opinion. I saw Shrek the Third last night and I must say that it's the worst of the Shrek films. No humor, no story, too many characters, recycled jokes, and no adult-appeal. Very disappointing. Even though that the movie is only 90 minutes long, I was squirming with boredom about 25 minutes in.
Just say no to Shrek 4!

i saw shrek today and im soooo disappointed. sure the shrek films get old quickly but this one is a realtime boredom. i liked shrek 2 and 1(a little). but i only laughed out loud at a few jokes mainly concerning donkey and puss and the singing snow white, pinocchio and gingy.and i never liked the human animation in dreamworks films, too realistic.
i hope ratatouillle wont disappoint. as for now robinsons is still the best this year.

No one ever mentions whether they saw this film in a THX certified theater and saw the Shrek THX logo before the movie. It was hilarious. Did anyone see this or does anyone else besides me watch movies in a certified THX theater?
Anthony --- I don't think you saw the same "Shrek 3" as the rest of us, or else you just want to be different so everyone will notice you. This movie had laughs every minute except for the very slow part in the middle of the film when they were returning to Far, Far Away with Arthur in tow. Other than that, this movie really rocked. You can't tell me that you didn't laugh when they were getting dressed in the royal garb.........that was just too funny. And what when Gingerbread Man see his life pass before him, they don't write comedy like that anymore. And this movie is the longest of the Shrek films running just a tad over 93 minutes which is about 10 minutes longer than either of the first two.

You're right dvdjunkie, Dreamworks made a special version of Shrek 3 just for me
That's got to be the stupidest thing I ever heard you say. Just because my opinion differs from yours, all of the sudden I'm labeled as crying out for atttention? This is a forum. Everyone is allowed to have different thoughts, likes and dislikes. I'm really insulted that you accused me of this. It seems you're always judging or picking on me and I don't even talk to you. What's the deal?dvdjunkie wrote:or else you just want to be different so everyone will notice you.

No I didn't laugh. Maybe if I was 6 years old I would.
Thank goodness they don't because it sucks.dvdjunkie wrote:And what when Gingerbread Man see his life pass before him, they don't write comedy like that anymore.
And can you get over yourself with your constant need for accuracy all the time? I said it was 90 minutes. Three minutes off. Sue me.dvdjunkie wrote:And this movie is the longest of the Shrek films running just a tad over 93 minutes which is about 10 minutes longer than either of the first two.
