We're pretty sure it will be Pinocchio for October 2008. There's also a chance it will be Snow White (again, but this time with a Blu Ray release as well as DVD. But Snow White is more likely to come in 2009 or 2010).

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED ABOUT THE JUNGLE BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I honestly don't think ANYONE here has any idea. (What many here were to The Little Mermaid, I am to The Jungle Book). You see, I never owned The Jungle Book. Ever. Not on VHS, or DVD. After I fell in love with the film (around 1993-4), my parents looked everywhere for the VHS, but it apparently went back in the vault. So, my parents went to BlockBuster, rented the movie, and made a copy of it. But, alas, I watched it so many times that it broke. :( To this day, I still don't own the movie but all of that will change on October 2nd 2007. :D :D :D (That is, unless I happen to see a VHS or DVD (LI) of it sooner, but I wouldn't bet my life on that happening).

As far as the cover, I think it has improved...vastly! (it is hard to make out, but I can see some of the changes). I'm REALLY happy that Bagheera made it to the cover! (finally!) Bagheera is (with out a doubt) one of my favorite characters from the film, and I was kind of sad that he got left out. :( But now it's all good. ( :) ) I hope we'll be able to see a high-res cover soon!

SO EXCITED!!! :D :D October 2nd can't come soon enough!

I absolutely love the new cover art already, and we can't evevn see it that well. I'm starting to get more and more excited for this release (as what always happens). The Jungle Book really isn't one of my favorite disney films but the special features look amazing, the cover art is looking great, and the pics and short clips from the trailer are looking good as well.

As far as what the Oct 2008 PE release will be... nobody knows, but I would love for it to be Pinnochio.

Supposed bonus features for the UK release have been announced as:

Disc 1:
The Lost Character: Rocky The Rhino
"I Wan'na Be Like You" Music Video by Jonas Brothers
Disney Song Selection
Unused Songs
Audio Commentary

Disc 2:
The Bare Necessities: The Making Of The Jungle Book
Disney's Kipling: Walt's Magic Touch On A Literary Classic
The Lure Of The Jungle Book
Mowgli's Return To The Wild
Frank & Ollie
Art Galleries
Baloo's Virtual Swingin' Jungle Cruise
DisneyPedia: Junglemania!
Jungle Book Language Adventure Games

I wonder what 'Frank and Ollie' is? Surely they wouldn't put the whole 1995 film on as a bonus feature?

Maybe just a fairly big portion of it.

The Jungle Book, after all, is one of their biggest achievements as they literally animated half the movie with little to no help from anyone. Any person today in Hollywood would probably consider that to be blasphemy

Sorry for the off-topicness, but, Julian, your avatar- WOW. The Lady Tremaine one was wow, but this one? WOW! :) If I were drinking, I would have choked.

As for "Frank and Ollie" they'll probably just show the parts that deal with TJB.

Well, Escapay said earlier in this thread that the laserdisc contained a five-minute featurette about them. Perhaps that has been carried over (but just how much info can a five-minute featurette give us that won't be covered by the main documentary?). Either way, I'm getting more and more excited for this release despite the fact that Jungle Book's on my "good-but-not-great" section of Disney movie rankings.

Yeah, the featurette is titled "Frank and Ollie Discuss Character Animation". It's Chapter 27 in the laserdisc listings, sharing its side with the 15 minute making-of and the original trailer. I'm not entirely sure that 5 minutes is its runtime, though. That's merely based on the laserdisc cover I found online saying that Side 4 was 22 minutes. And since the making-of featurette is 15 minutes, and assuming the trailer is a standard 2 minutes, I figured the Frank and Ollie featurette was 5 minutes left over. Still, I'd like if they did extend it with more material (like someone said earlier, the TJB bits from the F&O documentary). If the Frank & Ollie doc is indeed ported over to the second disc in its entirety, I wonder if the bonus features from that DVD will be carried over as well. Would make for a pretty packed disc (TJB features, F&O features, AND those wonderful set-top games!), but that's a bit unlikely these days for a Platinum.

Also, nice to see the music video (according to ichy's UK specs) will be the Jonas Brothers. At least it's a tolerable music group this time! ;) :P

Finally, is anyone else annoyed by Disney's infrequent practice of putting deleted materials on the first disc instead of with the rest of the supplements on the second disc? We've seen it for the The Lion King: Platinum Edition, the Aladdin: Platinum Edition, the Mulan: Special Edition, and now the The Jungle Book: Platinum Edition. Also, the R2/R4 Special Editions for Tarzan move the deleted scenes to the first disc as well.

In regards of the october 2008 platinum release i would assume, and much want it to, be Pinocchio. After that it be nice to see Fantasia and Sleeping Beauty instead of starting with snow white again. It really doesnt nmatter for me after since all major animated classic cartoons are to be released by then.
Cant wait for Jungle Book, with it's release i feel like im getting closer in owning all animated classics :) ALso i never really learned the history behind Jungle book. really looking forward to that,

If you switched the 2009 films, SB in March, and "Fantasia" in October, it would be better. SB already has a great transfer, and with a decent documentary, a few other featurettes, and maybe a music video, there wouldn't be much to do to make it a Platinum Edition set. Of course, all that Disney would have to do with "Fantasia" would be to add in Sunflower, and restore the film, it's good to go. With a 47-minute documentary, it's ready to roll, with exception of needing some 10-minute featurettes. I mean, it has two commentaries! Even though I have the Anthology set, I'm eager to go and purchase the Platinum Edition when it comes.

Anyway.....

All of the bonus features sound simply wonderful, and when it comes out, TJB will be all over that re-release of PP, yeah, it wasn't even really an upgrade! Well, since I only had the VHS of it, it was an upgrade, but not really for previous Special Edition DVD owners.

yup i agree. I dont own fantasia dvd, missed it. I dont really care if sleeping beauty does get a platinum release, it woudlnt hurt. but all i want is for the ones that ahve not gotten a special edition release to be the oones next in the platinum lineup. I jsut dont think its fair for rereleases when not all features have been released. sucks still long time for jungle book. urgh

Hmm...

I'm still undecided between this and the old one. And it's hard to tell whether or not Baloo is sporting his Hitler haircut now...

Thanks, jrboy. Seeing it clearly, now, I understand what they did. Instead of having the main characters large and floating in the background, they decided to go the same route as Lady and the Tramp's cover and have a sort of cast shot where everyone is placed together with accurate sizing. This makes the placement of Baloo behind the title and Mowgli under it a lot more sensible than I imagined. I have only two nitpicks: 1) I don't like how big the "40th" is and how it's placed. It looks like the movie's called "The Jungle Book 40th: Anniversary Edition". 2) Mowgli should be on the spine, not Baloo. Disney's been pretty good about having protagonists on the spine even if the sidekick overshadows them (like Aladdin). They've only messed this up twice with Beauty and the Beast (Lumiere) and Mulan (Mushu). There's no need for a third time. Other than those little details, I really like the cover. I wouldn't quite rank it among the best, but it's still pretty dang good.

I really like this new cover, the characters seem to be equal (size wise) no big head. Guess Disney finally came up with a more orignal design, course seeing 40th in the title's text sort of bugs me, should've been in "Aniversary" banner. Now if only Disney releases the disc art,

Disc 1: Baloo/Mowgli or Louie's Temple/Manvillage

Disc 2: Shere Khan/Kaa or Col. Hathi/ Bagerha.

That's not something recently added. The majority of the Platinum covers have light descending on or near the characters. The only exceptions are Beauty and the Beast and Bambi.
