Looks like a promising set, especially the making of and "Disney's Kippling"! I can't wait!

Now, now, you do have a point TheSequelofDisney, but I don't think the way to go and.......OH, who am I kidding?! Scaramanga, you really shouldn't pass up and incredible DVD just because of it's intended aspect ratio.

So hunt down the old 1999 LI for the film, but buy the PE for the extras. But don't pass on what could be one of Disney's best DVDs this year just because 5% of extra grass and leaves are suddenly missing from the picture.

(and while we're at it, since the laserdisc making-of isn't being carried over, let's see the 5 minute Frank & Ollie featurette at least!)

wow! Those specs sound amazing!! I'm really rooting for TJB! It's long over due for an amazing 2-disk release!

However, I think I WILL pick up the LI (and PE...duh), due to the question in Aspect Ratio. I just like seeing all of the picture that was made for a flim.

I buy DVD's because of the movie (in the best possible quality), not because of the extras (nice to have but worthless if the actual movie transfer sucks bigtime ... nice way to mask the defacts though from a commercial point of view). I'll probably pick it up once it drops in price, but not at the regular new-product retail prices (which are about 24€ for a Disney DVD around here, that'd be about 32$).

Would anyone buy Star Wars or Indiana Jones on DVD if George Lucas all of a sudden decided 4x3 was the intended ratio ? Just because it has all those documentaries they've been whining about for so long ? ...

Now that I come to think of it ... they probably would ... nothing as illogical as a fan. Personally I have to draw the line somewhere ... and that line is exactly where they're messing up, IMO, now: aspect ratios. I just won't buy a DVD which, IMO, has the wrong aspect ratio. (which is why I still don't ownThe Fox and the Hound on DVD). There's too many releases out there that do get it right to go wasting my money on those that don't.

In the end it's Disney's fault anyway ... they made a mess of the whole aspect ratio thingy, so it's up to them to fix it. Something along the lines of a possible 3-disc release ... Disc 1: Theatrical aspect ratio, Disc 2: Negative aspect ratio (at least if it doesn't contain any unfinished elements) and Disc 3 the extras. It'd cost them next to nothing extra (because you know they've restored the entire negative anyway) and make everyone happy.

PS. I already have the old version.
PS2. It's a whole lot more then a fracking 5% ... about 25% actually) I could care less if it were along the lines of 5%, for example the classical academy ratio, 1.37:1, and the native 1.33:1 DVD's.

Can we not assume the DVD might have both aspect ratios of the film on disc 1 like Lady and the Tramp did? They do fit on one disc, you know.

It would be nice, but the film is presented on the PE when in was shown theatrically, unless the director want's it different. Since TJB was shown in matted 1.75:1 in theatres, that is how it should show up on the set. LatT had both widescreen, 2.55:1 (I think) and full screen, 1.33:1 because some theatres did not have the capabilities of showing films in the widescreen format yet. Though it would be nice, it is unlikely. But then again, we are getting an Audio Commentary, and that was completely unexpected, so you never know. I'm just happy about the set, no matter what the aspect ratio is.

If they want to respect the original theatrical aspect ratio things get even more complicated. The preferred format in Europe at the time was 1.66:1 ... not 1.75:1, meaning there was a bit more visibe at the top and the bottom ... somehow I doubt they'll be releasing 3 different versions of the movie

This set seems to be hauling alil more stuff then Snow White did. But I agree with everybody bout trailers, we didn't reieceve any on P.Pan so I'm hoping Jungle Book will get all the trailers.

Thanks for the link, Mason. That was really cool to see. Does anybody know what it is from? The laserdisc making of perhaps? At the end of the clip, it looks like it's about to go on to talk about Sher Kahn. The only thing that makes me question if it was the laser disc is the fact that there are VHS lines going across the screen at times. I didn't think that could happen with a laser disc.

Disney's discarded 1963 film treatment

I read the press release and can't figure out what that's supposed to be. It sounds interesting, like an entire alternate version of the film.

Disney originally gave Bill Peet the assignment to come up with the story and Terry Gilkyson to write some songs for The Jungle Book. What Peet did was take the book and give it an animated treatment, so it was a rather dark, but still fun, story. However, at the time, Peet and Disney were constantly butting heads and having arguments, to the point where Peet left (he had been successfully writing children's books on the side). Disney then decided to scrap Peet's script, and gave the assignment to the Sherman Brothers saying, "Here's the general idea...(general idea)....and here's the book...(hands them the book)...DO NO read it, make up a story and songs, and get back to me." In the process, most of Gilkyson's songs (except "The Bare Necessities") were replaced, which is why the Deleted Songs section has so many songs. And The Jungle Book as we know it today is more "jungle farce" (Sherman Brothers version) than "jungle fantasy" (Bill Peet version).

So the DVD featurette will likely be along the lines of stuff like "The Cinderella/Peter Pan that Almost Was" and the "Lady and the Tramp: Original 1943 Storyboards"

Any sign of a music video on the DVD? it would be cool if the jonas brothers had there remake of I Wan'na be like you on the DVD.
