Babel

Which is obviously a far too deep, emotional and well crafted film, making impossible for me to mak any comments of any significance about it what so ever.

So I'll make silly comments instead.

I'm pleased to see that Human Cloning has been perfected, and this exciting new bio-technology is being used for such a vital and important task. No, I'm not talking about military uses in the War on Terror, I'm talking about upholding the high-quality of child acting. Yes, I can exclusively reveal that Dakota Fanning has been cloned and the clone is passing itself off as Dakota's younger sister and was in this movie. Expect a Dakota clone every 4 years or so, to ensure that Hollywood has a non-ending supply of female actors in the 9-13 age range.

Also Brad Pitt's showing his age a bit now. Going grey and all that. Letting himself go. Still, he doesn't look half as old as me, and I'm younger than him. He's such a git.

Just watched Stranger Than Fiction. It was pretty good. Not too bad. Though I think it would have really been poetic if it ended like she originally wanted it to. But oh well. Still a pretty good movie.

Last night, I went with some of my drama friends to see Premonition. I noticed a few plot holes and I was very disappointed with the ending. It's not that the ending was poorly written or anything, it's just the type of ending you don't like to see happen. Other than that, it was fantastic! Great acting, great writing, great plot. Highly reccomended.

Casablanca, mabey not "The Greatest Hollywood film" (according to Leonard Maltin) but still a good movie.

Although it does make me want to watch "A Night in Casablanca" (with the Marx Brothers) again.

Spider-Man I & II. It was very good! I had never seen the ending of the second one and it was so pretty, with MJ running in New York with her wedding dress (Enchanted anyone? ). I think I might even buy the Spider-Man 2.1 that's coming out soon.

Shakespeare in Love
I really liked that movie. I had bought it as a blind-buy, and only knew that the cast was great, but I abolsutely love the story and the hilarious script, plus it's wonderfully photographed and the costumes are amazing. And it has Colin Firth starring, which is just another very big plus.

Witchery (again)

Friday the 13th Part 2 - wow! This movie is a lot better than I remember it being. I usually get through it because I'm a huge fan of the series, but it was also my 2nd-least favorite after part 4. But last night's viewing was fantastic. This movie is actually pretty darn good. I have to raise my original rating from a D+ up to a C.

I watched All Dogs Go To Heaven last night. I hadn't seen it since I was about six, but picked it up on DVD over the weekend when I saw it for $9.99 at FYE. I cried, and I never cry during movies. Anne-Marie is the sweetest little girl in the world and I want a daughter just like her someday!

I don't know what it is with me and movies about little orphan girls being taken care of by animals, but All Dogs... is offically tied with The Rescuers as my two favorite films of all-time.

Oh, and I watched The Lake House. I was bored out of my mind. It was awful.

"The Little Mermaid". I hadn't seen it in a little bit, although I used to watch it all the time when I was little- Scuttle has got to be one of the funniest characters ever. I laughed, I cried, I got mad at Ursula...it was swell!

Dust Devil (1992) - it has it's inevitable lulls in the beginning (what is UP with the constant-aggressive music stops and starts - a Style excuse? It's annoying - characters keep turning off the film's SCORE by turning on and off their radios. Plus - what's up with the constant BELLS in places where there are no clocks or western-style shoot-outs?), but as it inches toward it's middle section - it becomes one of the most jaw-droppingly entrancing and hypnotic films I've ever seen! It's simply breath-taking. It's unfortunate that the film isn't perfect (it also suffers from some blandness in the scene where Hitch and Wendy talk about "God"- I just didn't believe they were even talking, it was so flat / and not to mention the overabundance of narration), it has so much potential! B

The Rescuers

The first time that I've seen it entirely. I really liked it, although Bernard and Bianca remind me of Mrs. Brisby. But they're all mice, so maybe that's why.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

AAHHH IT WAS SO GOOD, maybe not that good but really entertaining in and it reminded me of the younger days when I was a little ninja turtle fan. I think its one of the better CGI films that I actually enjoyed.

I just watched the HBO movie Life Support. True story about an ex-addict (played by Queen Latifah) who becomes an AIDS activist. It was an okay movie. Latifah was great in it though. Anyone with HBO or TMN (here in Canada) should check it out.

"A Time To Kill"- it was on TNT. I wouldn't usually watch a movie like that on my own, but my husband wanted to. It actually wasn't bad. Luckily, it had Matthew McCaunaughey (don't know how to spell his name).

It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963)

I was surprised how engaging the movie was. You really want to know who gets the $350,000. I was also surprised how tired I was after watching it, mabey because it was 3 hours, mabey because it was too exciting and funny at times, but it was REALLY GOOD![/b]

Today I watched 2 CGI movies, one of HD DVD and the other on Blu Ray to compare both systems (being as both are totally digital in all stages of their production from filmmaking to disc authoring).

Open Season

As a film this is worth no more than 5 out of 10. I don't know, but even when watching the film I got the impression Martin Lawrence wasn't really trying with his voice work (something that seemed to be confirmed on the voice acting featurette incidently). But it really wasn't that good a story or script after the 1st 10 minutes or so (I did enjoy the opening with the domesticated Boog at home). Apart from that the only other good scene was when Boog was trapped in the hunter's cabin. The ending was just silly. Very disappointing.

The Ant Bully

Wow. I seem to remember this got hammered by the critics, but I enjoyed it a lot and I actually thought it was a great film! I loved all of the voice work (Bruce Campbell! FTW! \o/ ) and Julia Roberts gave a wonderful spot on performance... as did Nick Cage who I understand has mixed appreciation with UD readers. It has some excellent animation (It may be the 3rd Ant film, but there's a reason... Ants and CGI go together so wonderfully well) and... well Paul Giamatti's Exterminator (again excellent voice casting) was an ideal villain at the end. He's got some excellent scenes too in the deleted scenes on the DVD, a shame that they were never put into the film (1 is even fully animated).

My only complaint is boy, did those Ants look like Antz ants! And Antz ants look somewhat ugly.

Even though the moral at the end was basically the same as A Bug's Life, I actually think this was a better film, with better, more rounded characters. I'd give this 8/10. (For the record, the more mature themed Antz is still my number 1 GCI animated ant-based movie).
