Went ot an advance screening of Frank Miller's 300 and was blown away by the graphic nature of the film. It tells the story of 300 Spartans who defended their country from over a million battle-tested troopers back in the days of the crusades. This is a remarkably photographed film, and those of you who saw "Sin City" will appreciate all that was done to make movie. I will warn you though, it is very graphci and grizzly in its depiction of the battle-to-the-death scenes. Good movie, it gets 4/5 from me.

Watched High School Musical, well, sort of. Apparently Disney is leasing out rights for community theatres to do HSM as a show, and one of my local theatres was doing it, so I went to see it last night. I'm actually not a huge fan of the movie, but one of my best friend's sister was playing Gabriella, so I was pretty much obligated to go. I enjoyed it. I actually wanted to try out, but I was involved with another play on the day that auditions were held.
Oh, and yesterday I watched For Richer or Poorer and Harriet the Spy. Loved them both.

I finished watching Snow Dogs. It's a neat little flick, though I wish a DVD would come out with it's proper aspect ratio. A solid B should suffice.

Over the weekend I watched Borat
I know this film has gotten a lot of hype, but it's really not that great. I'd say various TV skits with Borat have been funnier. Of course the film does have that hilarious naked fight, but that was scripted. I thought the scripted moments brought the film down really. I would have been happier with more genuine footage of reactions than the need for a proper narrative.
So all-in-all I have to say I was disappointed. But it was a lot better than his Ali-G movie. That suffered from the fact that when it was made everybody in Britain knew Ali-G, so it would be impossible to film candid segments. Sadly, the same will be true of Borat after this movie. There will never be a Borat movie (or Borat on TV again) like this movie.
Thankfully I have my range of Ali-G DVDs from the good old days, when Cohan and his creations could fool everybody.
I'm looking forward to the Bruno movie. Bruno is actually my favourite Cohen character.

You and I must have watched a good film because it blew the box office receipts away with over $38 million bucks. Largest grossing Disney movie in March, and the largest grossing Tim Allen live-action movie. That says a lot for it.Saw Hog Wild today, it was not that bad a movie and had a lot of laughs.

Anyways I just watched "Black Snake Moan" let me rephrase that... Over the weekend I watched*
It was okay..It started off as a dark comedy/Drama...then ended with a lot of morality issues. My mood went from Happy

B-
Poltergeist III - perhaps most people would point at this movie and call it the Weakest of the Series. And perhaps they would be right in doing so. But I happen to quite like it better than the other movies. Because, 1 - it's not nearly as sappy and overdramatic. And 2 - because this thing is on a psychotic wheel of ultra-style. It's a great sort of rollercoaster-type experience. Not too many movies I can say that about. But everything is a set-up for some fairly interesting visual / audio effect. In that regard, it's very effective. I give it a C+. Because I could barely stand that acting-imbecile they got to play Dr. Seaton. And there's something... funny... about Scott. Can't exactly put my finger on it. If nothing else, he's cheesy as a Chedder Heart-attack.
and Jack Frost (1996), the killer snowman (serial killer's DNA mixed with a bonding Can't-Be-Killed chemical and lots of fresh fallen snow) flick. I'm not sure that anyone ever gives this movie the credit it deserves for being technically so well-made. I've already gotten some flack for saying this elsewhere online - but the film is very well shot, edited, acted by the cast (accept that horrible "Angel on the top of the tree" Mother), and the sound design of the film is top-notch. It's incredibly stylish, has lots of creepy sound effects on the ambitious audio track, and packs a few surprising JUMP in your seat effects. It suffers, naturally, from some tasteless humor (a Snowman Sex scene?) and underwritten characters... but for the most part, I give the film a hearty B+. (But then, remember how many really low budget films I frequent, before thinking of checking it out yourself)

Okay, maybe someone can help me here. I was just watching the film "Bound for Glory," staring David Carradine as depression era folk singer Woody Guthrie, and TCM went off the air very close to the end! It totally left us hanging, and it came back on during the credits! It was just a few minutes, but a crucial few minutes! When it cut off, Woody was auditioning in a nightclub, I believe, and his new manager was telling him he'd have to be careful what he sang if he was going to sing on CBS. Of course, that sort of thing never sat well with Woody. Can anyone fill me in on the rest of the film from that point? It was sooooo near the end.

Strange video watching night in the Junkie Movie Theater, we watched:
Rover Dangerfield the animated film about a dog voiced by the late Rodney Dangerfield. Was very funny and the grandkids really enjoyed it.
Rock-A-Doodle another animated film that has gotten lost in the shuffle. Everyone enjoyed watching this one.
Fievel Goes West the enjoyable sequel to "An American Tale". Laughter abounded in the theater with this one.
After the kids went to bed, we watched Borat, and found this to be just as crazy, and funny, as when we saw it in the theater.
