Thanks for the info, guys. I HAD read the front page, I try to do that every day, but I guess I was more curious about how many folks were going to send there's in. How many folks felt the corrections are worth the trouble. Well, not so much trouble as risk. We get other people's mail all the time. There's a chance I could end up losing my Silly Symphonies disc here!

They sent me a prepaid envelope, which I placed my originals in. It didn't matter if they got scratched in transit as they were going to destroy them anyway. I then received my new discs in about a week and a half. (Basically the entire wait was snail mail waiting time. I had absolutely no problems whatsoever.

I called yesterday to register my name for the replacement Silly Symphony discs and the rep took my info telling me that when the discs are ready they would send the discs to me with an envelope to send the defective discs back. One question that came to my mind was, what if I don't? I don't think they will hunt us down to make sure they get them back.
On another note, I asked about the fate of the Treasures line and expected to get the response that I've seen here that others received from the BVHV reps but I didn't.
The rep placed me on hold and came back telling me that the decision hasn't been made yet but to call back because they EXPECT to have the final answer within 2 weeks.
I thought that was interesting.

Oh, I meant to post in THIS thread. Anyway, as I said in the thread about the Disney Treasures ending, I called today to get my name down on the replacement program. I'm really glad they send you the discs first. Makes me feel better about sending mine in. The nice lady on the phone said something like that they don't get many calls about the Treasures Line...

Amen! Mail is no better here on the East Coast.slave2moonlight wrote:Well, not so much trouble as risk. We get other people's mail all the time. There's a chance I could end up losing my Silly Symphonies disc here!
Warner Home Video sends you postage-paid envelopes and you send them your originals first...on a wing and a prayer. Scary as H*ll.

At least Disney does right by the customer this way.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

That's the reason I am dreading getting that Ultimate Superman collection, while at the same time, dying to get it (even though I have the old DVD boxed set). I'm hoping and assuming that when I finally get around to buying the Back to the Future set at Target or wherever, that the copies in stores are corrected ones by now. Haven't heard if they are or not. Plus, I'll be wanting that Tom and Jerry Collection someday too, and there are discs to send in there as well. They really should double check this stuff before selling it.

For BTTF, just make sure the sticker says "Lowest Price Ever!" and you'll know it's the corrected discs.slave2moonlight wrote:That's the reason I am dreading getting that Ultimate Superman collection, while at the same time, dying to get it (even though I have the old DVD boxed set). For Ultimate Superman collection, if you don't want to do the replacement system, simply wait for WB to issue a statement saying the faulty sets have sold out and the new ones will be on shelves starting on the (day) of (month). I remember originally hearing they'd be out this month, but that may have changed. I still have to send for my replacement discs, I've just never bothered to call for them yet.

Thanks for the info, Escapay. I was worried it would be forever before corrected Superman sets would be out in stores. Let me know if you hear the official word, as I'm not sure where I would catch it (maybe if I hadn't stopped going to Kryptonsite.com...).Escapay wrote: For BTTF, just make sure the sticker says "Lowest Price Ever!" and you'll know it's the corrected discs.

What is the problem with Superman?
I was told by the guys at the Back to the Future website that they've gotten reports that the defective DVDs have made their way back into circulation. I still need to get a set so I guess I"ll have to buy one and replace through UNiversal if they're still doing it.
What if you don't send your discs back after you get the replacements? I just wondered. I thought reciting the disc number over the phone proves you have the disc?

The first disc for Superman: The Movie (in all cases, the individual release, the Christopher Reeve Collection, and the Ultimate Superman Collection) has the wrong audio track. Rather than offer the 1978 original mono, it's the 2001 remix, mixed as mono.UncleEd wrote:What is the problem with Superman?
And the disc for Superman III: Deluxe Edition (in the Ultimate Superman Collection, all other releases are fine) was accidentally authored with the old 2001 DVD, not the new one (with commentary, vintage tv featurette, and deleted scenes).
Aw dammit. Now I actually have to go and get a new set and see if it's the right one. I've had BTTF since it first came out, and delayed picking up the new corrected versions when they streeted in 2005.UncleEd wrote:I was told by the guys at the Back to the Future website that they've gotten reports that the defective DVDs have made their way back into circulation. I wasn't asked to give any proof over the phone about owning the Silly Symphonies discs...
Hope that's not true about Back to the Future. Don't know why that would happen.
Apparently, the Superman 3 disc they put in the set is the old one, not the new, special edition one. And, I think with Superman one, it's an audio problem. I'm dying to see Superman Returns again, but the disc problem has kept me from buying the set, and it's the set I want, not just Superman Returns. Of course, there's also a money issue. Sometimes I can afford the set, sometimes I can't. It'll be a while before I can get it again. I have some spare cash now, but I will either use it on DuckTales 2 or Narnia 4 disc. I know the Narnia one is going out of print, but I would have to find a price I could live with (in stores, I don't like to shop online unless I HAVE to), since it's only one movie and a ton of extras, as far as I know. Still, I like to get the most complete versions out there, so that one being an extended cut makes me really want to get it.

I rang this morning to register for the replacement program. After a lengthy interlude listening to their on-hold music at international rates while a very nice lady checked whether they could send the discs to Australia, I was added to the list. Hurrah!
But I was informed that I'll have to send the discs in first before they send the replacements. I wonder if that's just an outside-the-USA thing, because they can't easily come and chase me up. Whereas with most of you guys, they could just send the Feds after you.
Still, we shall see when the time comes.

This bodes well for me in the UK then. But it's the money I'll be charged for the international call that bothers me.MK Sharp wrote:After a lengthy interlude listening to their on-hold music at international rates while a very nice lady checked whether they could send the discs to Australia, I was added to the list. I guess I'll probably have to send the originals back first too. I'm just not sure when to call, now or when the replacements actually begin arriving.

I just got off the phone with Walt Disney (Buena Vista) Home Entertainment Customer Service. I was looking to both put my name down for a "More Silly Symphonies" replacement and try to get some information from whomever I was able to speak with. Here's what I found out:
• "More Silly Symphonies" is being replaced. The discs are not ready yet, but when they are, people who have previously contacted WDHE will be contacted via telephone and told to be prepared to receive the replacement discs in the mail (they will send them first). In the package along with the discs will be a pre-paid envelope to return the defective discs. This is good news.
• No decision has currently been made on what they are doing with TLA v.1 in regards to the color issue on "Prowler of the Everglades." They are aware of the issue and the lady I spoke with was happy I brought it up. I told her I was pretty sure what the problem was, since when I swapped the red and blue cables in my component video set, the picture looked fine. I put my name in for a replacement if and when they come.
• Although I lucked out and got one of the copies of TLA v.4 with the correct aspect ratios, I asked if she knew anything about what was being done for those who didn't. She had all the information on it, as well, and said that no decision has been made as of yet. She said she was happy I got a good copy, but the more calls they get on it, the better.
Finally, I asked her about the fate of the Treasures line, referencing the conflicting information we've been getting from WDHE Customer Service and Leonard Maltin himself. She told me that the most up-to-date information they have is that the Treasures line WILL be continuing, although she had no information on what the titles would be or even when they would be coming out. When asked if Leonard Maltin was going to be involved with the continuation (citing the latest information we have about his believing the line to be canceled), she said that she did not know, but that she personally hoped so.
So, unfortunately, no press-stopping news, just some reinforcement of what we've already heard, as well as minor clarification on some items. I encourage all of you to call WDHE (800-723-4763) to either request your replacement discs (in the case of More Silly Symphonies), request that defective titles be added to the replacement program (in the case of the TLAs), or to show your support for both the Treasures line and Leonard Maltin.
*Sorry for the double post...I'm putting this in the Treasures and the TLAs thread

A lot of the shorts have re-issue title cards; the originals were re-created but accidently omitted. Plus The Night Before Christmas is slightly edited, and The Goddess Of Spring is an old, interlaced video transfer. All copies out there are like this.mybluerabbit wrote:Sorry if this has already been discussed, but what is wrong with the current disc of More Silly Symphonies? Do all current copies of More Silly Symphonies have this problem?

There's also the problem the original poster of this thread mentioned with the cartoons on disc 2 being "crooked" (i.e. not horizontal). At least mine are.
