Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest DVD Thread
I agree that we got some pretty good stuff. One thing I would have liked is to have seen more of Jerry Bruckheimer's diary photos. The few they did show were excellent. I especially like the photo of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow with a downward kind of sullen look. A very nice moment with the camera. Unfortunately my wife did not know to pick up the bonus disc when she purchased our copy so I won't get to see those unless I can track down a friend who has one.

I just have some basic questions to ask about the DVD (I'm pretty sure most of them haven't been asked before):
- Do any of the extras have optional subtitles? (I'm a stickler for this kind of thing, but I'll get it if it doesn't anyway.)
- On the actual disc art, do they have that revolting translucent stuff Disney's been using or is it silkscreened to maintain continuity with the first film's DVD set?
- And finally, I heard that when the "play" option is enabled for the film, it promptly starts the movie immediately (without the FBI warnings and disclaimers), is that true as well?

Unfortunately no. I too am a stickler for subtitles, and my hearing is fine. It's just that these things should be a requirement, and I applaud Paramount, Fox, and Universal for doing it, whereas nearly everyone else doesn't.azul017 wrote:- Do any of the extras have optional subtitles? It's the revolting translucent stuff. Pity too, as the disc art is quite gorgeous.azul017 wrote:- On the actual disc art, do they have that revolting translucent stuff Disney's been using or is it silkscreened to maintain continuity with the first film's DVD set?
Nope, still goes through the warnings and disclaimers. I find it easier simply to go to Scene Selection, and starting at Chapter Two, then going back a chapter. On some DVDs, selecting Chapter One will still go to the warnings, so I don't bother taking my chances.azul017 wrote:- And finally, I heard that when the "play" option is enabled for the film, it promptly starts the movie immediately (without the FBI warnings and disclaimers), is that true as well?
Checked the POTC:DMC disc, and thankfully, going to Chapter One from Scene Selection does NOT contain the warnings and disclaimers.
Yep, got it first day. Was *ecstatic* when I found out "Pirates Around The World" was a trailer gallery! I was expecting a featurette about international dubbing or more location footage, but was soooo much happier when I found trailers!MickeyMouseboy wrote:did anyone get the best buy 3rd disc with theatrical trailer and teaser, photo gallery, behind the scenes and on location?
The featurettes are great too. They only amount to about 20 minutes, and likely were made as something for a store exclusive bonus disc. Still, I would have liked if it were a "Lost Disc" like with COTBP, and be an hour of additional material (including all the trailers, and the COTBP trailers too).

I bought the DVD for Christmas! Great film but with loads of bonus extras. But the new logo for Walt Disney Pictures is completely cleaned. YouTube does have the cleaner version as well as on the official Walt Disney Pictures website. "Fox and the Hound 2" still uses the old logo which is still blue with some 1985 elements. I wish I could get credit. POTC: DMC is the best DVD ever. Thanks to Disney!

I got my copy today, and I have yet to watch it. In fact, I am currently watching WDT: Mickey Mouse Club Presents the Hardy Boys, which is quite entertaining, and fun to watch. I thought that I wouldn't like it, but I do. Hopefully, I will be into Disc 2 of PoTC: DMC by the end of the week.

Recent Pirates News Article - help finding
Hey everybody. I could use a ton of help with a paper I'm working on. I remember recently reading an article claiming that Pirates, and to an extent Cars, helped the overall US box office remain profitable this year. It was probably even on this site, but I can't find it. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about, or where to find it?
