Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest DVD Thread

Post by Disneykid »

DavisDVD now has cover art and (very) basic specs for both the single disc and double disc editions:

Image
Image

The 2-Disc Special Edition will feature:

* Two commentary tracks
* "Bloopers of the Caribbean"
* Additional Scenes
* Featurettes on Specific Scenes
* Featurettes on Characters
* Featurettes on Stunts
* Featurettes on Special Effects
* Featurettes on Pirate Lore
* And more (of course)

The single disc will feature the commentaries and blooper reel. That one will retail for $29.99 while the Special Edition will retail for $34.99. While some may complain about the price difference, I much prefer this approach over the "Let's release a single disc edition now and a 2-Disc set eight months later for the same price!" method. Both will be released on December 5th. I'll edit this post when more details emerge, and Luke or someone else can lock this thread once the official press release thread is created.

Sign me up for getting the 2-Disc Special Edition! Hopefully, there won't be a "Lost Disc" in the works, because I missed out on that for PotC1, and I got really mad! :x

I'm very glad Disney has stopped catering to the pan-n-scan crowd and is offering the movie up only in its intended aspect ratio (glorious 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen!) for both editions.

I hope one of the commentary tracks is a cast commentary like the one offered on the first film...

I'll be getting the 2-disc. I wonder though if I should sell my copy of the first one, then buy the trilogy set when the third movie is out.

Anybody else hate the 2 on the binding?

I don't necessarily hate it, but it does look out of place. There wasn't a "1" on the first PotC, so why have it on the second PotC? Oh well, what matters is what is on the inside. The discs containg the movie and special features ^_^ And so far so good, I don't think it has FastPlay!

Maybe the 2 is just saying it's a Two Disc Set not really saying POTC 2.

No, because up at the top of the spine it says "2-Disc Set"

Coincedently, I've got "2" problems with this press release:

1. It says there are 2 commentaries instead of 3. I have a bad feeling the commentary with Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio isn't going to be on here. Which would be a shame if it's true, because the commentary on the first DVD with the writers is quite possibly the most original and most informative commentary ever recorded. Mainly for the fact that it gives us almost the entire idea to how it works to write screenplays in the movie industry. And since I have a dream to write screenplays, it was amazing to listen to and informative. Unfortunately, Disney might think "the marjority of audiences wouldn't be interested". :roll: I hope that either the boring commentary with Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski or the lame comedy duo of Keira Knightley and Jack Davenport are left out instead.

2. There's no documentary related to the theme park attraction, even with the changes! I hope that once, Disney actually means "more" when they say it. It just seems ridiculous not to have one.

But other than that, it's still great news to hear it's a 2 disc the first time it's released on DVD(I won't say final though, as I smell huge double dip when the third one comes out like Disney's doing for Narnia). And while not the best cover ever made, it looks pretty good.

That was HILARIOUS!! We, my sisters and I, were watching it in the car, and we were laughing so hard. My mom asked what was so funny. I rather enjoyed it, and so did my sisters. I don't find it "lame" I find it enjoyable, and funny.

I'm going to wait for the 45 disc box set that comes when the trilogy ends...

only to have 3 more films added a few years later. :P

I'll get the 2-disc set. It looks solid. I LOVE the cover art. And the fact that it has the Disneydvd logo. It's time for them to embrace the right stuff instead of trying to shy away from their heart and soul because of a little pg-13 rating. we're living in different times.

I agree with TheSequelofDisney: Jack and Keira's commentary was absolutely hilarious. Gore and Johnny's, on the other hand, made me bored after 10 minutes. I'm hoping that for this second film, both pairs are teamed up for one track.

DavisDVD said disc two contains about eight hours' worth of material, so I think it's safe to assume that these specs are incomplete.

You forgot that the 45 disc box set will include 1/4 scale polystone statues of all the cast members. :)

I love the cover art! Count me in for the 2-disc set! I hope that the two commentaries are Ted and Terry, and then Keira and Jack (Gore and Johnny can either join them or be gone). I hope if it is Jack and Keira, they have a feature-length commentary, not the very short selected-scenes commentary as on the first one. Little Mermaid in October, and then bring on this!

I'll wait for more specs and reviews before making a decision, but this looks promising. I'm just wary of Disney pulling another Narnia on us.

If Ted and Terry are not on a commentary track, it's probably because they couldn't speak too freely without spoiling the third movie.

Oh, it seems like I'll have a new friend under the Christmas Tree on December 25th (as I'm generally too uptight to buy anything for myself in December due to Yule, I'll wait twenty days to get this :lol: ).

Anyway, I have a theory for why there's a "2" on the spine. Perhaps Disney is going to start numbering films in this series...

Okay, how's this for odd: Davis DVD has removed both pieces of cover artwork and the news bulletin about the specs, street date, and list prices off their site. I don't know about you guys, but I still see the covers fine, so they must still have them on their server and are just not linking to them anymore. Were they not supposed to reveal this info, yet? I don't really see the big deal. We already knew of the street date for a while, now, and the cover art for both editions are just slightly tweaked from the theatrical poster. The specs we got weren't even detailed. I guess either Disney's planning a big press release that'll reveal everything we want to know about this release all at once, or DavisDVD has some sort of technical glitch going on.

Bingo. As it said here on the Friday night update, the big announcement is planned for about a month from now (on Talk Like a Pirate Day). Though, of course, like you say, it's not like any of it will be terribly surprising.

With regards to the commentaries, writers tracks sound certain, though I'm not sure if we'll get anything from the cast. Perhaps it's something they're saving for down the line, as I'd be surprised if none of the cast were approached to record them or none of them accepted the offer.

The one featurette I'd REALLY like to see (and this will surprise no-one) is a 'sequel' to the excellent documentary on the history of the Disneyland attraction.

Heaps could be said about the recent upgrades that has introduced Captain Jack to the ride. Oh well, one can only hope...

Seeing this DVD cover art is only making me feel even more anxious. I still haven't seen Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest!!! :(
The original is my favourite non-animated film, and I haven't been to the movies to see it yet :cry:
The reason is, all my friends saw it on a day I was on holiday, and I don't want to see it by myself :P
Even still, I am anticipating this release December 5th, and will definately be picking up the 2-Disc Set.

I'd say which Special Effects I can't wait to see...but I haven't even seen the movie yet :lol:
