I am not sure where all this talk is coming from. There hasnt even been anything we could categorize as a rumour they are going to stop them, just speculation because of a smaller print run.

We have already had confirmation from people in the know on this site that there are two more waves to come. Included in that were four more animated sets - completion of Donald/another rarity/best of the education shorts. Keep in mind there are more educational shorts than theatrical. However, the computer related shorts from the early 80s may be a little dated. Who else saw the Disney produced shorts on how to do punch cards? Anybody else remember operating a computer by a punch card?

Not by title card it isnt. At least not when it was originally released theatrically. It had no title card so it is considered a special by cartoonogrophers(dont blame me I am just going off of others work)

But Toad that doesn't take into consideration that Disney schedules are ALWAYS Tentative and subject to change. At the time it was confirmed that may have been the case but things change. Especially when it comes to money and I just can't see how 65,000 copies of each will make enough profit for Disney to justify the expense of restoration etc. that is involved.Mr. Toad wrote: We have already had confirmation from people in the know on this site that there are two more waves to come.

Yes and Leonard Maltin also has a contract for two more waves - they have to pay him anyways. My point is only that we have had absolutely no evidence of the Treasures being cancelled - just a bunch of people running around yelling the sky is falling.
65000*4*$20=$5.2Million I would think there is five to ten people working full time on the restoration getting paid say 50,000 each. Probably still some profit to be had.
And dont forget they can still release the content again for additional sales - Disney's line is that only the tin is collectible and part of the 65K run.

So would this bugs cartoon be "Bugs in Love"?Mouseketodd wrote:I recall one that seemed to emphasize the SS "Musicland." Another was based on Sword and the Stone. Yet another had clips from a dance hall where the bugs all came out to have a night of dancing.
Was that bug cartoon a Silly Symphony? If so, what's the title? It would have to be on this Treasures SS Vol 2.

A theory...
Maybe Disney is wising up to the "collectibility" of these metal slipcovers, so just like their cardboard counterparts, only a limited run (in this case, 65K) will have tins, and the rest of the run (I'm guessing another 65K, bringing it up to a nice 130K run for each release) will be tinless.
Either that or Disney's just gonna shoot themselves in the foot by having such a limited run with good sales now, but having others reap the benefits of it two years later on e-bay.

Lars - I agree. It is in fact a Pluto short. I have seen it listed over and over again as a special though, so who am I to argue.

Its more than a theory. Disney has already done it once with Waves 1 and 2. They were re released through Costco without tins and it did not count against the collectible print run.Escapay wrote:Hmm...Mr. Toad wrote:And dont forget they can still release the content again for additional sales - Disney's line is that only the tin is collectible and part of the 65K run.

My treasures are shipped
Just received a notice from Amazon that my Walt Disney Treasures shipped today and should arrive the 20th. I know some people have been getting later shipping dates. I just ordered these on the 12th but I signed up for the free 3 month trial of Amazon Prime and that apparently bumps you to the head of the line. I don't know if it will help those of you who have already placed orders, but for those still considering...As long as you remember to cancel before the three month trial is over, it's entirely free.
It sure sounds like 'Woodland Cafe' to meMouseketodd wrote:So would this bugs cartoon be "Bugs in Love"?Mouseketodd wrote:I recall one that seemed to emphasize the SS "Musicland." I'm very curious about the two versions of Cannibal Capers - I have seen two versions, with the longer version including the ending of the native sticking the lion's teeth into the native's mouth and then chasing the lion. It will be interesting to me if these are the two versions above, or there were other scenes I didn't know about.Luke wrote: Here's Disc One...
From the Vault:
Cannibal Capers (1930)
Cannibal Capers (with original ending) - commentary by David Gerstein & Leonard Maltin
I also find it "interesting" which shorts ended up "In The Vault" and which ones didn't. Considering the subject matter and just from the title alone, I'm surprised Hell's Bells didn't end up in the Vault. Due to the blackface scene in The Night Before Christmas, I'm surprised it wasn't In The Vault also.
These four cartoons are actually from 1930. Do the discs/supplemental materials really date them at 1932?Luke wrote:Here's Disc One... [...]
Frolicking Fish (1932)
Monkey Melodies (1932) - commentary by David Gerstein
Night (1932) - commentary by Ross Care
Winter (1932) - commentary by Daniel Goldmark and Leonard Maltin
Apologies in advance for the nit-picking.
I'm also curious about the supplemental galleries, as I contributed some material to Disney with them in mind. Are there any examples of Hiawatha or Bucky Bug comic strips shown?

Wait a minute here, I am so confused!! Are the ones that Luke said: "From the Vault" NOT appearing on SS:volume 2?! And, what's more, I thought that we finalized that all of the Silly Symphonies will now be on DVD? (With the one Donald SS being on one of the Chronological Donald volumes)??jebsdad wrote:I'm very curious about the two versions of Cannibal Capers - I have seen two versions, with the longer version including the ending of the native sticking the lion's teeth into the native's mouth and then chasing the lion. And, what was wrong with the "black faces" in "The Night Before Christmas"?? It was just soot from when Santa went down the chimney. The same thing with "Junior"; he was looking up the chimney after Santa left, and soot fell on his face. I don't see anything offensive about that. By the way, sorry if I seem defensive or what ever you wish to call it, but I love "The Night Before Christmas", and my family finds it very special.
ANYWAY, I'm REALLY looking forward to this release!! Silly Symphonies are my favorite of all the Disney shorts. And what's really exciting is that I haven't come anywhere close to seeing all of them (I've seen around 10), So I will get some new suprises.
