They will charge you your local sales tax and a shipping fee, but mine will arrive in my mail box for $13.56!

The Duke: "Snaaaaake Plissken... I've heard of you... I heard you were DEAD."

Girl: You're a cop!
Snake Plissken: I'm an a**hole...

All of the extra goodies that are not on the current DVD are here:

Just as a follow-up on my own post... I just received my Escape from New York SE DVD on Saturday and watched it last night.

Awesome is the appropriate word that comes to mind! One of my all-time favorite films finally gets the respect that it so-longedly has deserved. I cannot overemphasize how wonderful this DVD is. For example:

Both commentary tracks are insighful and entertaining; information that I never knew -- like the Girl (played by Season Hubley) in the above quoted sequence was Kurt Russell's wife at the time of the shoot. Also, I did not know that Adrienne Barbeau (the character Maggie in EFNY) was John Carpenter's wife at the time of the shoot. I also did not know that much of the New York street scenes were actually shot at a burned-out and abandoned part of St. Louis, MO in 1980-81.

Finally, the previously-unavailable opening 10-minute sequence of Plissken and an accomplice stealing from the federal bank and subsequently getting caught in the subway station was worth the $13.56 alone!

This is now easily on my top 10 list of DVDs I've purchased in 2003.

Thanks for the awesome info TLK! I always loved this film too..and the sequel. The sequel was pretty much a remake of the first one, but it was still a fun movie.

John Carpenter does some really great commentaries, he's a guy who loves movies and loves discussing them. I got a chance to meet him at Dragon*Con in Atlanta a few years ago and he was a really nice guy. He was very approachable and signed my LD copies of Escape from NY and LA.

You probably have the LD of Escape from NY...is the DVD commentary with Kurt Russel and John Carpenter the same one from the LD or is it new?

Unfortunately, I never warmed up to EFLA. It had a huge budget as compared to EFNY, but the story was blah... Once they introduced the bad guy as, "Cuervo Jones," I started losing interest.

His commentary with Roddy Piper on the They Live DVD was worth every penny I paid for it... It had me rolling in stitches during most of it.

That's a great story. I recently went to an art exhibit of Ralph Bakshi's oil paitings and he very nicely signed my LD copy of Wizards.

No, sadly I never owned EFNY on LD. It is my understanding that the commentary on this new DVD is ported over from the LD. However, a new commentary track was made by producer Debra Hill and production designer Joe Alves specifically for this SE DVD.
