What Movie Did You Just Watch? Returns

My son-in-law came and kidnapped me today and took me to see Casino Royale, the new James Bond movie and my world got rocked!! Daniel Craig is fabulous in the role, and the movie is action-packed, and the first 20 minutes are just pulse-pounding and mind-boggling.

The film starts out in Black and White, which was a nice touch. Some people may complain because there is no "Q" and his fancy gadgets in this movie, no outragious sports cars, no loud James Bond theme music everytime there is a fight or chase scene, and most of all there are a lot of scantily-clad women falling all over him. The movie is more true to the book than the old Woody Allen movie was, and the one major change is the tournament Bond is entered in is not Baccarat, it is Texas Hold 'em Poker. Lots of stars you will recognize by face, and not by name, and a fairly good storyline, just enough to keep you interested for the 2 hours and 24 minutes (the longest James Bond movie ever) that the movie runs. I will give it a strong B+.

Casino Royal - Basically, I agree with everything junkie stated, but I give in an A+. Seems to be that James Bond does get to die another day. After the last movie it was an extremely close call. Oh, and Daniel Craig is good, but I miss Pierce Brosnan. His Bond shall definitely be missed.

"Downfall" ("Der Untergang") - about the final days of Hitler and Berlin in 1945.

That's a really good one!! I saw it in theaters and it blew me away. Did you watch it with subtitles, or dubbed in Norewegian?

First of all, unless we're talking about Disney animation and other "kids' titles", movies are NOT dubbed into Norwegian. Our market isn't big enough for that sort of thing, and I'm happy about it.

As for myself, I'm not entirely typical, I guess I might say - I teach German in high school, and took the time to watch "Der Untergang" with the pupils. Although "Hitler's" dialect is a bit on the difficult side, I'm quite able to understand German, but I used English subtitles as "support" for the pupils.

There are a lot of exciting movies about WWII, many of which are American. But it took Germans - and Russians - to make this one. It's considered important and "outstanding" - rightfully so, in my opinion.

Watched "Koyaanisqatsi" again last night. This is probably the movie I've watched the most times now.

The last movie I watched was DINOSAUR.

I do have a few irks with it, but overall it's a good movie and I'm not really sure why it flopped in the UK the way it seemed to. Although, it would have been much more epic if Disney had simply not made the animals talk. Looking at it and considering the storyline, it wouldn't have been impossible or even particularly hard to convey the story without the animals having to talk.

That really is my only gripe with it. Otherwise, it's marvellous. Although the videogame was horrible. Not that I didn't pick it up, play it and give it a good chance. Urgh.

Well Dinosaur couldn't be considered a flop, its UK box office gross was 13 Million which whilst not headline grabbing is nothing to be sniffed at. The movie was number one for 2 weeks.

Although from the general consensus and hype surrounding the film in the UK, I suppose one would assume it waqs a flop.

Watching Cars for the bajillionth time with extended family in surprisngly-not-so-cold Vermont. That movie never gets old.

I'm also hoping I can talk my mom and my aunt into going to see Flushed Away or Happy Feet tonight.

Well, I aint little and I aint a merman, but I think that this list is TLM's top movies of the year list, and the movie which says new by it (in this case, Failure to Launch), must have been the last film he saw.

That's cool, that you are a German teacher. Bruno Ganz' dialect in the role of Hitler isn't easy understand even for me and I am German.
Here in Germany every movie is dubbed, which kind of annoys me.

Watched Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest on DVD last night, and it was still heaps of fun. Picked up a bunch of sillier moments this time, but also a number of Depp's more subtle character traits. Say what you want about this franchise, it entertains - old school style!

Speaking of old school, we then watched The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938). Very camp when viewed through our (post)modern eyes, but all the classic Hood elements are there. As a major Green Arrow fan, I can't help but get caught up in a some fine archery.

Today, I watched The Perfect Man, a cookie cutter Hilary Duff RomCom that delivers what it advertised. Nothing special, but still good.

Then, I watched Liar Liar on USA. I had forgotten how much I love that film. I need to buy it.
