I adore the beach scene when Ariel has saved Eric and is singing to him. The animation there is so beautiful.

The ballroom scene from Beauty and The Beast. Also the scene with her singing in the fields before she goes off to find her father. I love the colors there and the wind.

I also think that the whole movie of Tarzan is just visually stunning. The rich green colors of the jungle just make me gasp in awe. It was amazing to watch it on the big screen.

I love Part Of Your World and Kiss The Girl

Part Of Your World -I love the part when she swims up close to the camera and flips on the lyrics "ready to stand" It is amazing that someone drew that, it is really good.

Kiss The Girl-This song is just so cool cause of the Broadway Style "build up" and it just becomes such a great musical momment along with the animation visually enhancing the music, with all the fish swiming around the boat. I just love it.

The end of the Part of Your World (Reprise) scene in The Little Mermaid. The waves splashing around Ariel while she sits on the rock is amazing. It gives me chills everytime I see it.[/i]

Hmm, I've been trying to rewatch all the animated features (though I'm missing a few of the newer ones: Home on the Range, Heffalump Movie, some sequels...) so I can review them on Amazon, draw collages of them for my deviantart.com page, experience all the DVD extras, and just plain have them fresh in my mind again. However, it's been slow going, as I'm very busy right now.

I'm sure I have several favorites. Off the top of my head though, one standout fave is the scene from "The Little Mermaid" where Ariel has just gotten her new legs and is checking them out in the surf; all the way through to where she and Eric exit together. I LOVE that whole scene from when she first comes up from the water to their walking off! I LOVE it!

I surely could pick faves from most if not all of the Disney animated features. Certainly from Beauty and the Beast, the Jungle Book, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and a few others at least. As in love as I am with Tink and Ariel, I consider Beauty and the Beast the best Disney film so far. Tarzan was also particularly impressive with its animation. I always love the party scene from Ichabod and Mr. Toad's Ichabod section too!

There are so many to list so here are just a few of my ultimate favourites:

Cinderella: Transformation scene
The Little Mermaid: Transformation to human/Rise to the surface (Poor Unfortunate Souls), Part of Your World (Singing to Eric and on the rocks; waves break) and when Ariel rises from the water in that glittering gown.
Aladdin: Magic Carpet Ride (A Whole New World)
The Lion King: The Circle of Life
Pocahontas: Farewell scene

There are way too many to list, but my Top 5 are:

1 The Opening to Toy Story -- The very first scene, all the way to the end of "Friend In Me" is my personal top spot for the best animation (and it's also my favorite Disney opening ever.)

2 The Lion King Stampede -- Seeing this as a kid in the theatre, I was blown away. Outstanding!!

3 Aladdin -- A Whole New World -- There is just something so epic about this piece, it moves me everytime I see it.

4 The Lion King -- Circle of Life -- Live action or animation, one of the most powerful opening scenes to a movie -- EVER!!

5 Snow White -- The Queen's Transformation to Witch -- To this day, this scene scares the crap out of me.

Favourite Animated Sequence?

Post by Disney-Fan »

All right, so we all have our favourite movies. Be it The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Home on the Range or Atlantis, we all have them, BUT, what I'm curious to hear about is your favourite sequences from a Disney film. One where the subtlety overtakes the usual wackiness. Or one where the coloring is just right and sets the mood. Or the one where the movement is just so real and fluid, so believable. In short, any sequence that impressed you in terms of animation. Please try to ignore staging and what-not, and focus on the animation. Backgrounds, expressions, colours etc...

Off the top of my head, my absolute favourite moment might actually not even be from my favourite movie, but from Pocahontas. When she and John Smith first meet, there is absolute silence. No dialogue, no funny animal gags. Just a magnificent score and Disney's (in my opinion) most subtle work to date. Her glare is so still, so silent, but you can still see that it's not just a freeze-frame. The animator drew each and every frame, with each one having only the tiniest difference in movement. That takes effort, and for that I probably appreciate that scene more than any other one in a Disney film. Another moment would be when Abu insults Carpet after being "playful" with him. Without any help of facial expressions or dialogue, the emotion came through quite vividly. I don't know about you guys, but I was feeling sorry for poor Carpet.

That's mine for now... I'll be sure to update this thread with more moments as I am reminded of them... but for now, I'd love for UD to share your favorite moments! :) So lets get started!

tough question man...really tough question

I wish I could say the entire movie of The Lion King. I believe the whole film itself created the most beautiful theme and portrayals of a natural and real Africa. Especially if you look at the Circle of Life sequence, the rain sequence, the sequence of Simba and Mufasa walking together in the Pride Lands, the beautiful shot of the lionesses resting, Simba and Mufasa looking at the stars, all of CYFtLT, Simba meeting Rafiki. That's just some of many animated sequences that really get to you with a combination of animation and music.

I also found alot of these feelings in the Hunchback of Notre Dame but moreso in the trailer for the film. I was really sucked in when I saw the original trailer. It captures you in a way that only the movie can do so much of.

As far as old films go, watch Bambi. For a movie that was made over 60 years ago it went above and beyond for its time to create such beauty and depth, especially in the opening shots of the film.

And the Rescuers Down Under's flying eagle sequence. And Peter Pan's You Can Fly sequence where you really get the feeling of flying through London at night. So far I dunno what else I could add to this list.

Climax of Sleeping Beauty, the rising of the Cauldron Born, Ichabod being chased by the Headless Horseman, there are too many to choose.

Well, I agree with what has been said before. There are too many to choose, and I love all the ones that have been mentioned. Favorites for me, a few off the top of my head anyway... Ariel when she first gets legs and is checking out her feet and toes for the first time, and that whole scene until she and Eric walk off together. Pinocchio and Lampwick when they are turning into donkeys is another. Alice when she is trying to play croquet with the uncooperative malet. I pretty much love all of of the visuals of Ichabod's story and Pecos Bill's as well. I'm not sure I'm ignoring all the what-not, but I'm not sure what that would be anyway. Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast, to me, are consistently dazzling from start to finish. Granted, I haven't put on most of these in a while. These days, I have so many movies that I rarely have the feeling of, "I just watched that one." I'm sure I'd think of more to mention if it hadn't been so long since I watched them. Love the musical "bonding" montage from Treasure Planet. That might be one of the only traditionally animated films where the pop songs don't seem invasive to me, though there might be a couple of others. I love the sequence where Basil is first introduced and is trying to identify a bullet (or something like that, haven't watched the DVD in a while), and the animation as he goes through the frantic process. Love many scenes in Cinderella between the humans, like when Cinderella realizes she was dancing with the prince, and her stepmother sees her as a threat at that moment as well. And, of course, there's the Queen's transformation scene, and also the Beast's. Transformation scenes are always fascinating, and Walt loved them as well. Of course, much of Bambi was breathtaking as well, and even Bambi 2 had some awe inspiring moments. Of course, there's Night On Bald Mountain, and I always loved the end with the church bells. I'm sure I could think of many more, too.

Ah, yes, there's that great scene between Shere Khan and Kaa! I love when he sticks his claw into Kaa's nostril! That was messed up!

Tinkerbell in Peter Pan. Any scenes focusing on her! Also, the mermaid lagoon scene.

Tarzan dressed all human, and his first encounter with Jane, from the babboon chase to the hand touching.

The entire film "Sleeping Beauty" is visually dazzling, I feel.

The evil coach ride in Cinderella 3.

Cruella's entrance in 101 Dalmatians, and Lucky's revival.

Jessica Rabbit's stage performance and most of that film, actually, which happens to be my number one favorite film.

I have a few

Fox and the Hound
When Amos is pointing his gun at Tod and Copper walks out in front of him, putting his own life on the line.

Brother Bear
When Kenai is distracted by his brothers, Koda sees a golden light and goes to it, and a bit later we see why. He is cuddling with the spirit of his mother. I went through that whole movie without shedding a tear, till that part. It was so brief, and yet so powerful.

The Small One (animated short
The "Friendly Face" sequence.

The Rescuer's Down Under
Cody's flight with Marahute. Such an underrated film. The animation was so stunning. Especially of Marahute. I've had experience with real birds of prey and they truely captured them so well. They aren't just magnificent, beautiful, and deadly, but they have loving, friendly, and even clownish personalities.

Dumbo
The "Baby Mine" sequence.

Mulan
When Mulan decided to join the army. There was no need for her to narrate what she was going to do. The music and visuals did it all for you. And so perfectly.

Tarzan
One broken up word..."GOR-IL-LA!"...For whatever reason, that scene cracks me up. Clayton gets so happy and proud of himself for teaching Tarzan comprehension on what a gorilla is, and instead, Tarzan thinks the pencil/chalk/whatever it was, is "gorilla" and starts to draw all over the paper like a spastic 2 year old.

Some of my favorite scenes are:

The spaghetti scene in Lady and the Tramp, it’s simply a sweet scene. The colors and the music really set the scene well. I really don’t know why it appeals to me so much, but it’s always been one of my favorites. Maybe it’s because Lady and the Tramp is my favorite movie or maybe I like the movie so much because of that scene. I really can’t explain it, it has just always been my favorite.

Bambi learning to skate on the ice is another favorite of mine. I just love watching him slip and slide all over the place. I particularly like the section with Thumper helping Bambi stand back up on the ice. That scene will always be classic for me.

I’m sure I will think of more later, but those two scenes are the ones that really stand out for me.

Ah, yes, that's a great Fox and the Hound scene!

From Small One, I love the ending where Joseph buys him. That always tears me up. They did a great job on giving him that friendly face.

I still need to sit and watch Brother Bear and give it my full attention, and I've never even put on the sequel yet, though I got it when it came out.

Totally agree about Rescuers Down Under and the flight scene. I also love the scene with McLeach thinking over what to do while his own eggs are being stolen by his pet.

I also LOVE Clayton's death scene in Tarzan! And from Mulan, I love the "Girl Worth Fighting For" sequence and the sequence Siren mentioned. That's another film that's beautiful to look at from beginning to end though, where they did a particularly good job with the musical numbers.

I had intended to mention Dumbo before, but I forgot, ha. Yes, Baby Mine is a great one. I also just love the "Look Out For Mr. Stork" scene and setting up the circus.

I'm sure there are things worth mentioning from Lilo and Stitch and Hunchback, but I haven't seen those in a while so it's hard to remember. Hercules as well. Have 'em, but it's been a while, but I consider all those to be visual masterpieces, along with Lion King also.

And, who doesn't love the Wizard's Duel from Sword in the Stone, or any of their animal scenes really.

Of course, Lady and the Tramp! Yes, the spaggheti scene, and also when Lady is first introduced as a puppy, and "He's a Tramp." Also, when Tramp wakes up and makes his morning rounds and battles the rat.

About a year ago, I made this post in Trumpet Joe's Favorite piece of Disney animation (from any film) (created October 31, 2006), and it still holds true today:
On October 31, 2006, A Guy Named Scaps wrote:IMO, one of the best moments in Disney animation was from Aladdin, and it's such a tender and little moment that can easily be forgotten five minutes later, but really stuck with me when I first saw the movie.

"One Jump Ahead" (reprise) - Shortly after Aladdin insults Prince Achmed and the gates close on him, he says, "I'm not worthless...and I don't have fleas!", then scratches his head, almost subconsciously scratching away one. As we see him and Abu walk home, he begins singing the reprise against a lot of really grungy and poor-looking areas of Agrabah, and the scene gets progressively darker. When we get to Aladdin's place, it's just a mess of tattered curtains, fallen beams, the slums. And yet, he and Abu are so comfortable here, Abu with his own bed, for example. The best moment is when we're in the semi-darkness of his place, and he pulls away the curtain, and we just see this spectacular view of the palace, shining in the moonlight. That one little moment gave so much to the character, showed just how *lucky* he truly was. Wonderful animation, song, and score.

Almost any scene with Disney Dust is a favorite of mine, however one piece of animation I've always loved is at the beginning of some of the VHS tapes. It has Mickey in his Sorcerors outfit, and this Disney Dust comes out of his hand and swirls around to form the words Walt Disney Classic I believe. That has always been a favorite of mine, I have to watch it again to see what else happens though.

Here's a few more off the top of my head

- Cinderella's dress transformation

- Beasts Transformation/Castle Transformation

- Cave of Wonders rising out of the sand, as well as when it caves in.

- Fight between Aladdin and Jafar

- The Titans walking to Mt. Olympus and showing off their powers.

- Night on Bald Mt. this entire sequence from Fantasia is amazing. Chernabog is muscular, malgin and as sinister as any image from the middle ages. The fact he's able to tilt the church shows how much power he has, and you know how evil he is because he's able to pull souls from their graves, despite crosses marking the resting places as consecrated ground. As the sequence goes on things get more furious and frantic until it climaxes at the sound of church bells and sends all the evil things back into their hiding places.

Sleeping Beauty - Forest scene, gifts of beauty, maleficent and Philip in dungeon.

Beauty and the beast - Belle singing "There must be more than this provincial life" in Belle

Cinderella - So this is love

Lion King - Opening

Aladdin - A whole new world

Little Mermaid - Opening, Part of your world

Bambi - Little April shower
