Favorite piece of Disney animation (from any film)
I'm sure there's already a thread like this floating around, but I was just wondering what everybody's favorite piece of Disney animation was. My favorite is the "Poor Unfortunate Souls" scene from TLM. I just love how the farther you get into the scene, the more the colors change and illuminate the characters' faces. But what I especially love is the part where Ariel "sings" and her voice goes into Ursula's necklace. Everty time I watch that part, I feel such a sadness to see a character that you care about just foul up royally. But, as we all know, everythings works out in the end. So, what about the rest of you guys? What are your favroite pieces of animation?

Ariel's transformation from Mermaid to human has to be one of the most stunning, shocking, visually impressive scenes I have ever seen. That would be my favourite. A close second would be John Smith and Pocahontas' first meeting. Subtle beyond words, yet so effective.

Cinderella's transformation would probably be my favorite. Not only do I consider Cindy to be the most realistic looking human Disney's ever done (which is why stock clipart of her pains me so), but the way Marc Davis showed the dress morphing into the ballgown with all that spiralling dust is just pure magic. I also love the juxtaposition of the silver (yes, Disney, silver) ballgown against the dark blue, impressionistic background. That little piece of animation encaptulates everything I love about Disney and is one of the first images to pop in my head when I hear their name.
Okay, so how many of you thought I would say the Mad Tea Party?

I thought that you'd at least say something Alice-related in an impulsive reaction. Maybe not the Tea Party, perhaps the shot of a random bluebird bathing in the pond. Come on, people, you've got to admit that that is the most amazing piece of animation ever created.Disneykid wrote:Okay, so how many of you thought I would say the Mad Tea Party?
Anyway, I have many favourites, most of which are actually just incidental shots that stick in my mind for some reason.
*A lot of Roger Rabbit's jumpy jumpy movement.
*In the Supercali... number in Mary Poppins, I just love the crowd and the band's movement.
*Cruella DeVil's entrance.
*The character design of Peg in Lady and the Tramp.
*Ursula capturing Ariel's voice.
*The Beast's transformation.
*The whole "I've Got No Strings" number in Pinocchio.
*The March of the Cards in Alice in Wonderland.
*The Cheshire Cat vanishing before the Tea Party scene in Alice in Wonderland.
*The Queen's transformation in Snow White.

My favorite sequence is at the end of Monsters Inc. when Boo is beating Randall over the head with a bat. Funny and cute too.

Can't pick one, but standout moments would have to include:-
A Whole New World - from Aladdin and Aladdin's escape from the Cave of Wonders.
The ballroom scene from Beauty and the Beast. Belle, and the Belle reprise. The wolf fight. Where Belle discovers the rose. The final transformation. So many scenes in this film.
The big transformation scene in Brother Bear with all the animal spirits.
Cinderella's dress transformation.
Circle of Life - opening from The Lion King. Wildebeest stampede. The final battle with Scar.
Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid. Ariel's transformations (both times). The scene where Ariel meets Eric on the beach after she's been transformed, Ariel's expressions are amazing.
Once Upon a Dream from Sleeping Beauty. I love the Briar Rose look of Aurora (currently waiting for an Armani Briar Rose figurine).
The opening scenes from Tarzan. The leopard fight. Strangers Like Me. The baboon chase, and the closing shot with Tarzan and Jane.
I just can't pick out one favourite scene, but those would have to be some of the stand out moments for me.

Disney Duster's favorite piece of animation
Well, Disneykid already said it...and perfectly, but I'll give it another try (QUITE surprised it wasn't Alice-related).
Yes, it's the scene where Cinderella's mother's torn pink dress is transformed into a full silver ballgown amidst swirling white stars. As far as emotions go, it's not deeply affecting to me, but it does range from her looking down, seeing the Disney dust, and wondering what it's about to do, then a look of wonder and surprise at the force of the magic. You see her feeling the magic. Then of course, there are so many different things going on. Marc Davis saw how the jagged tatters could form the bustle and pleats, the torn shoulder strap a puffy sleeve, and when Cinderella's hair goes up it looks like angel wings, to me at least. Another thing to notice, is that when the Disney dust swirls around her head, it forms a halo, further expressing the angelic feeling and giving a symbol of Cinderella's innocence, or if you look at the circle as a crown, her regalness. Unfortunately, the DVD "restoration" made much of this dust less visible.
Aside from this, the dust is not a mere spiral. It bends, expands, and forms separate rings from the main body, all in a continuous, flowing motion. It also kind of drips downward, like paint. Anyway, I was obsessed with this scene as a child, drawing it all the time, once trying to make a computer-paper-sized flipbook of it...with not the best results.
Next to it, I also am a huge fan of the pumpkin becoming a coach. The pumpkin saumersaults, bounces, and dances to the music, and I love the spiraling tendrils that form on its vines. Every part of the pumpkin, except perhaps the door, forms a lantern or seat or wheel. Then, at the end, it's like the fairy godmother is shooting it with her magic. It's an interesting, imaginative, original piece.

I have to agree with Disney Duster about Cinderella. The pumpkin to coach is great and so is the dress. (I'm suprised Disney Duster didn't mention the Sing Sweet Nightingale song with all the bubles and reflections)
Here is my revised list
Sleeping Beauty: the part in Once Upon a Dream where Phillip and Aurora are dancing and there dance is rflected by the water
Also the part where lightning strikes the castle and the thorns come up through the ground
Alice in Wonderland: The Mad Hatter fixing the watch
Alice shrinking while saying "Your a Fat! Pompus! Bad Tempered old Tirant!
the cheshire cat scenes
Ichabod and Mr. Toad: the Headless Horseman's entrance
the weasles chasing Toad Ratty Mole and MacBadger through Toad Hall
Little Mermaid: Le Poisons sequence
Great Mouse Detective: The scene where the mechanical queen falls apart and Ratigan tries to cover it up
Black Cauldron: the scene where the Cauldron Born come to life

Fantasia
&
Fantasia 2000
What else?
The entire movie, of both, are superbly wonderful/magnificent/breath taking. Have you ever seen anything so wonderful in your entire life? I don't know what I would do if I hadn't ever seen these to wonderf/magnificent/breath taking movies. I think I would probably die.

Most of my favorites take place in TLM (which is one of the reasons I like the movie so much). First, there's the beautiful introduction to the underwater kingdom (just the music behind it makes it so powerful). Then there's the Part of Your World sequence (of course). The final one is Poor Unfortunate Souls simply because there's so much that occurs during that one scene. I always loved the way Ursula's cackle is echoing in the background as Ariel's swimming to the surface. When Ursula's rising out of the water as a giant is another moment.
There's only other 2 specific scenes I can think of: when Cruella, near the end of the movie, runs off the bank into the snow and the reprise to Belle (where Belle is running off as the camera rises above the trees)

Listening to most often lately:
