A cannot agree that the Kingdom Hearts franchise is 'overhyped and underplayed'. I think that these are the best Disney videogames to be released, especially over recent years when a game simply follows the storyline of its respective movie. This is what I can't stand, there's no thought goes into these games whatsoever they are just used as another way to promote the film. There should be more games as original and entertaining as Kingdom Hearts and less just playing through a movie we've already seen.

A Kingdom Hearts film WOULD work in my opinion but not as an animated classic. Even better make it into a TV series to replace some of the ever growing Jetex shows.

Well I love Kingdom Hearts an all but I definatly cannot see it as a Disney Classic. Actually the main storyline was very strong and thick just the Disney worlds/stories were episodic(which was a bummer because in the first one the Disney worlds were part of the main storyline rather then being seperated storys) some people don't actually like paying attention to that part rather because they only want to pay attention to there favorite franchise parts(Disney fans, Final Fantasy fans) Its funny because I noticed that people who favor one franchise over another will ultimatley take that as a whole and critisize the game because the game didnt have there favored franchise in the story correctly. Believe me I've seen it everywhere, every fan review and heard many opinions. I didnt do that because I wasnt bias. However the KH2 did not surpass the first one which is actually better. Anyways I dont think Kingdom Hearts would be a good Disney classic. It would make a great movie but not by Disney.

There were rumors of that Disney Japan had a Kingdom Hearts animated movie or anime in the works. So far, nothing has really been said about it.

Considering that all of the Final Fantasy characters that appear in the games are just "guests," the emphasis would more than likely be on the new characters created for the games and the various Disney-related worlds. But who knows...

Hey guys! Looky what I found:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Jump
Joe Jump is an American animated film that is in development as an upcoming release produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation. It will be about a video game character from the PacMan era who's game is no longer played. He finds a way to "jump" into today's high-tech games and then begin the "fish out of water" story.

This must be the film goofystitch was talking about.

It's also listed as being Disney's 50th Animated Classic on Wikipedia:
...44 Home on the Range - March 21, 2004 (premiere) April 2, 2004
45 Chicken Little - October 30, 2005 (premiere) November 4, 2005
46 Meet the Robinsons - March 30, 2007
47 American Dog - summer 2008
48 Rapunzel - June 2009
49 The Frog Princess - 20??
50 Joe Jump - 20??
According to Wikipedia, it's going to be produced in CGI.

Could be. Wikipedia is often wrong due to the fact that practically anybody can edit information. However, I haven't heard anything about Disney denying that this film is in pre-production stages. So until Disney publically announces that they aren't working on a project of this title or of a similar plot, it's a rumor, but isn't confirmed as being just a rumor. There could be truth behind it.

If this film is really in pre-production, I feel a little bit  + about the story. It doesn't sound like the most inspired basis for an animated feature to me...

The Joe Jump idea sounds kinda cool. I would still like to see The Search for Mickey Mouse, though.

Speaking of rumors, didn't someone (coughEisnercough) suggest remaking the old Disney Classics in CGI? I'm glad they scrapped that idea in a hurry!

I agree that the story doesn't sound fitting as a classic, but I do think it has potential. Video games are a HUGE industry and with the Nintendo Wii launching in a month, one of the goals of the new system is to bring back some of the classic games that the new generation doesn't have the opportunity to fall in love with while still creating new revolutionary games. I think it would be interesting to see how a Pacman type character would handle living in a Halo type enviornment. I hope it is 2-D and CG. The classic character could be traditionally animated and the new game could all be CG. Might be kind of interesting.

I'm very excited for joe Jump, i don't know why.

Although in my heart of hearts, the disney animated canon stopped at 45 and will continue with the Frog Princess...I just can't see the CG films to be part of the canon. But that's just me and my unimportant opinion...

Animated

I agree with stitcharielbeast. The word "Animated" can mean many things, and it's hard to claim that it absolutely cannot apply to CGI. Still, it might just as well be used to describe my state of mind when I followed the shutting down of Disney's legendary 2D-department. Although it would be an almost laughably mild choice of words.
If CGI had been introduced to Disney in the manner that Walt often and willingly introduced new techniques - sound, color, multi-plane camera etc. - it would have been another matter. As it happened, I still have the impression that it was just an opportunistic shift that was steamrolled in over the 2D-department's heads, for economic reasons. I have trouble seeing it as an improvement or advancement of Disney animation.
Anyway, it seems pretty sure that Disney will release a 50th Animated Feature, but I, for one, will probably find it very hard to think of it as an Animated Classic.
