Disney's 50th Animated Classic

Post by yamiiguy »

Do you think it could possibly be Disney's best film since it's a landmark? What do you think it will be?

I read something about another animated film possibly being put into production called something like "Jump Jack" or a similar title. I don't know anything more than the title, which I'm probably somewhat wrong about, but close. Anyways, if his is or has been green lit, then this would probably end up as the 50th classic and the title doesn't sound very promising to me, but neither did "The Emperor's New Groove" and I love that movie.

YES! Thats it! I knew I was close, but wrong. lol. It's such a weird title for any movie, let alone one that is expected to stand up next to true classics like "The Lion King" and "Cinderella."

I really hope Joe Jump or something will not be th 50th animated classic! I hope they push Rapunzel up and release it as the 50th as they could make it a huge promotional succes... But then again we have been waiting so long for rapunzel that they would be scared to keep it stalling any further. I just would like the 50th to be one of the best...

I hate to resurrect super old rumors, but I wish they'd follow through with the whole "search for mickey" or whatever the title of that was going to be. They were allegedly going to make the 50th animated classic revolving around mickey and featuring various chracters from other movies over the years.

That would be totally cool. It would also be awesome to see Mickey getting lost in the major classics--and they would use the ORIGINAL voices for the classic characters (except for, that is, the ones who are dead).

Yes way back when the order was supposed to be

45-Ghosts that Haunt Me
46-Chicken Little
47-Meet The Robinsons
48-An American Dog
49-Rapunzel
50-The Search for Mickey Mouse

But that was years ago and the Ghosts that Haunt me and the Search for Mickey have been long since shelved. For those new to the site the premise was Mickey Mouse goes missing and Minnie hires Basil of Baker Street to find him. It would have at least one character from the first 49 movies in it.

Other characers from non amimated classics in it included Daisy, three pigs and the Big Bad Wolf, Elliott the Dragon, Pete, Mortimor Mouse.

That sounds awsome, especially the part about Basil and Elliot :D

The thing is that "The Search for Mickey Mouse" has pretty much already been done in a different form...
Finding King Mickey played a big part in the overall story of the video game franchise Kingdom Hearts. Them repeating that in animation wouldn't be nearly as original now.

[I'd love to see an animated feature or series to Kingdom Hearts, though. The video games and manga are never enough...]

I would love to see that Search for Mickey thing, it sounds really cool!

Especially if it had characters from ALL the previous movies. Kingdom Hearts is amazing but there are a lot of characters that aren't even mentioned or have cameos.
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

I'd doubt there'd be anything special about a "50th classic" - I'm not really sure the numbering is consistent enough to seem relevant for such marketing purposes. Besides, I guess Disney would want a really "special" title every year or more anyway.

No it wouldn't. Kingdom Hearts is another example of overhype and underplay. The graphics were fantastic. Nobody can deny that, but the story was weak, patchy, episodic and uncontained. And I hated the simple gameplay. I don't know the Final Fantasy characters, and I don't want to either.

A Kingdom Hearts game would suffer the same problems as "The Search for Mickey Mouse" would - too many characters, too little reason for having them and an unsatisfying story.

The only way they could do such a film is to do it in a House of Mouse/Roger Rabbit type way, where the characters are cameos in the background, perhaps with little sight or sound gags.

I would hardly criticize it that much. There were a couple of levels that didn't connect themselves with the story well (TLM and NBC levels especially), but I thought it was good overall. It was a video game, so you can hardly expect it to be a masterpiece. Besides, producing a movie of it would cut out all the fluff and keep only the key events (like Maleficent, the Princesses of Heart, the search for Mickey, the Heartless and the original characters). In fact, they could give the original characters a little more personality that way as well. And maybe cut down on some of the more corny lines.

But I can't understand when people moan about Home on the Range not having "enough" story, or Atlantis being "disappointing", or Treasure Planet being a "lame Treasure Island", how anyone could want Kingdom Hearts as a Disney Animated Classic. :? :? :?

Well said 2099net. I thought all of those films were great. I wouldn't be opposed to a Kingdom Hearts movie, but it probably would be a DTV sort of deal and done in CG. And that's IF it was made. I doubt a Kingdom Hearts film will ever see the light of day due to the large amount of video game turned movies that completely flop at the box office and/or on home video. It's just not a very successful market. There are the rare cases and Peter Jackson's "Halo" will probably be a huge success, but the other Square Soft (makers of Kingdom Harts) films have bombed.

I'd love that. This is a great idea. I hope they involve the Pixar movies characters!!!
