I really wanted Dalmations too! I can't believe we'll only be getting one new platinum every year then starting October 2008. Seems like just yesterday I got Snow White! I might re-buy Snow White though just so it matches up with my other Platinums. It doesn't look right on the shelf with no slipcover and a little wider case.

I have both..

Post by disneyboy20022 »

I already Have both of 101 Dalmations Limited Issue and Peter Pan Special Edition. I was kinda hoping 101 Dalmations would come out first if I had to chose because 101 Dalmations special features was full color artwork on disc and basicly Specs. While I agree Peter Pan's quality was not good.... on the other hand it had more special features than 101 Dalmations and thats mainly because 101 Dalmations came out when DVD Players cost like $300 for the basic one. Plus 101 Dalmations Like i Said is bare of special features. So in the end the Last version of Peter Pan had more features than the last version of when 101 Dalmations was released. Also If they are to release possibly more Platinum editions next year Disney really needs to make the Lilo and Stitch 2-disc into a Platinum since basicly the work is all done and it keeps getting postponed. Also I hope a Future Platinum Edition Title might be a 2-disc HunchBack of Notre Dame but I really hope Hunchback comes sooner though if there is to be an updated edition of it. I actually got 101 Dalmations a few years ago at a video store that had it for $29.99 brand new. I grabbed it and still have it.

I was hoping to get 101 dalmatians next spring :(

Its one of my favorite movies. And there was an animal theme going on with Bambi, Lady and the Tramp.........
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I can't say that I was raised on either Peter Pan or 101 Dalmations specifically, but I recall enjoying 101 Dalmations far more. With the recent release of Peter Pan: SE I feel that it would be more than acceptable to push it's Platinum release back by a little more time. The transfer wasn't terrible and the features were decent. I suppose this is one of Disney's methods of capitalizing on the release of the Tinkerbelle movie  .

I sincerely hope they don't contemplate releasing three Platinum titles next year. As many people have already pointed out, once Disney began to release two titles per year the quality went down. I can only imagine how the "quality" of the Platinum releases would turn out if they were even more rushed.

Normally I would say that the wait adds a certain degree of satisfaction to the eventual obtainment, but I've been waiting years to watch 101 Dalmations again (no video store where I live has the LE DVD) and it's driving me crazy!

I wouldn't worry about that since they list the next two as Peter Pan & The Jungle Book so they're not going to play around now with the schedule, 101 Dalmations is pretty much locked for March 2008.

I'm actually really happy about the change. I love both Peter Pan and Dalmatians, but I prefer Peter Pan if I have to choose, and I've been stewing about missing the most recent release for far too long. I own the last release of Dalmatians, so right now I'm more concerned with getting an updated Pan (though I do have that first, bare bones release). Also, I just think all the extras on Pan will be much more interesting.

I agree wholeheartedly with the post regarding an early release date for Pinocchio it's a really great classic Disney title and deserves a much eariler release on DVD!!!

I am bummed about 101 Dalmatians, too. I don't have it on DVD at all! I do have the Peter Pan LI, though.

I don't think they should do three platinums a year. I agree with the person who said "Quality, not Quantity". I am still kicking myself for missing out on Snow White PE, and the original 101 Dalmatians release.

I hope, if I have to wait 1.5 years for 101 Dalmatians, that it's a pretty darn good release. I wish they would bring back the standard of PE's to the original Snow White release (from what I've heard - since I don't have the DVD myself).

-p.s.- I don't mean to be the spelling police, but the correct spelling of the word is Dalmatian.

Thank you, kbehm29, for pointing out my spelling error in the post above. Contrary to what I wrote, I do know how to spell the word correctly. I'm a spelling fanatic and I hate to see spelling errors--especially when they're my own!--so I appreciate you pointing that out to me :)

I wasn't just referring to you. Half the people in the thread spelled it wrong! :) No worries, and you're welcome.

I wonder why that is anyway? 'Tion' and 'tian' sound the exact same to me.

Anyway, it doesn't matter to me which comes first (although Peter Pan has never been one of my all-time favorites like 101 Dalmatians) because I intend to buy both of them. Besides, after getting TLM, I'm never going to be as excited about any other release. :P

Well I'm very disappointed 101 Dalmatians has been bumped, I do already have the DVD from 2000, however I feel it is more in need of a release, after all I have the 2 Disc French special edition of Peter Pan, and apart from maybe a new documentary, I feel everything else will just be ported over. Although as many assume it's to tie in with the release of TinkerBell.

Both "Peter Pan" and "101 Dalmatians" have always been favorites of mine and I have very fond memories of both from my childhood. I also went through minor obsessions with both. To me, it doesn't matter which Platinum comes first, but Pan is my all time favorite Disney movie, so I'm prefectly satisfied getting it a little early. However, "The Jungle Book," while very enjoyable, is probably my least favorite of the films currently scheduled in the Platinum series. I kind of wish dalmatians was coming next fall and JB the spring following.

I would have to say Peter Pan is probably my least favorite animated tale. I don't have any particulary good reasons for why this is so, I simply remember not being overly fond of it. I adore the actual novel that the movie is loosely based on, but something about Disney's version just didn't resonate with me. The Jungle Book, on the other hand, greatly interested me. I didn't get to watch the movie many times as a child so I am excited about it's impending release. I certainly hope that the sound is adjusted (of course) because I recall it sounding terribly odd on the VHS edition.

It's because Dalmatians originally come from the Austrian province of Dalmatia (now called Croatia).

You've got to be kidding!

The Little Mermaid is looking to be the best Platinum since Aladdin. It has a commentary, a virtual ride-through of a Disney Theme Park ride never bulit, a documentary with interviews from mostly everyone big who worked on it, deleated scene, some art galleries, and I'm probably over-looking other informative stuff, and you're saying it was "rushed" all because it didn't come in stupid packaging.

And reading through this thread is disappointing to me. Why? Because so far it's
50% Peter Pan
50% 101 Dalmatians
0% The Jungle Book

I Hope when Jungle Book PE is out

Post by disneyboy20022 »

I am hoping that when the Jungle Book Platinum Edition is released perhaps Disney will release the Tv series The Jungle Cubs where all of the Jungle Book animals are kids and are good friends. In fact they should release The Jungle Book PE alongside The Jungle Cubs Series dvd and TaleSpin Volume 2. Also I hope that if disney Does release the Jungle Cubs show that it will be a box set and not a disc of 3 episodes on one disc as they did with Goof Troop and Quack Pack.

I agree with Justin. The TLM set looks absolutely amazing, and it's understandable as to why Disney isn't doing gift sets anymore. They don't sell as well as a regular release.

Here ya go, something TJB related:

Yesterday, by chance, I was at the mall, browsing GameStop and found...get this, a LI edition of Jungle Book for $12.99. I passed on it, not because it's coming out next year, but because the case wasn't original (like someone bought another and put the cover art in there), the cover art paper was really worn out, the insert was gone, and when I asked to inspect the disc, it looked atrocious (scratches everywhere, even some dust that wasn't wiped off). I had to pass on it even though I didn't want to, along with a copy of Fantasia 2000 in the same condition.
