101 Dalmatians PE: "Pushed Aside"
I'm glad that Peter Pan is finally getting the Platinum Edition DVD it truely deserves, but I was really bummed that 101 Dalmatians was put off for another year. I was really looking forward to that release. The last time 101 Dalmatians was released on video was in 1999, 7 years ago, compared to Peter Pan's 4 years. I know that Peter Pan got "subbed" probably because of the Tinkerbell line coming out, but I think 101 needs to be released sooner than the Spring/Fall 2008 expectantcy. Who agrees with me on this?
I know, I may be complaining, but I do feel that 101 needs to be released ASAP. It's still a win/win, since I do like Peter Pan very much & that the "Special Edition" DVD was somewhat lacking the features we hoped for (although it had the commentary, which I love). It's just that I like 101 better. Sorry for the rant.

I really would not like that! The quality of the PE's is poorer now than when they only released 1 per year... The PE releases already seem way too rushed compared to the earlier ones in the line... I dare not think what would happen if they released 3 PE's a year!BambiFan87 wrote:Or maybe make 2007 a special year and release 3 platinum titles!!!!that would be great!

opps. never thought about that your absolutly right! BUT 101 dalmations is probably already done or close to it, dont you think? and peter pan is already going to be rushed regardless becuase they JUST told us about it now usually we hear about news like this mooonths in advanced. but you are still right, why couldnt they all be like snow white and beauty and the beast?? ooh well im still happy with all of them for the most part they all look fabulous compared the the new re-release of dumbo. that is for sure and I dont even want to think about fox and the hound and robin hood. who knows though maybe ill be suprised.
Yeah they do the restoration months in advance...BambiFan87 wrote:opps. never thought about that your absolutly right! Hopefully PP won't be rushed... It really deserves a top notch presentation... They should do a grat job on this one considering they already have some good stuff from the SE... The transfer needs to be re-restored but it's not as damaged as it could be, and they have the commentary...

Personally I don't mind, as 101 Dalmatians is by far my least favourite of the bunch. I'm looking forward to The Jungle Book the most and was hoping it would be next after TLM, but Peter Pan is good too.
I wouldn't say no to three PEs per year either. I'm only really after the films themselves so as long as those are restored and presented properly I'm OK, anything else is just icing on the cake (and it should be, they're called 'extras' for a reason
.) Besides the only interesting ones to me are the behind-the-scenes type of featurettes, interviews with the production team etc. I could live without all those silly games and music videos.

Personaly I'd rater wait for a PE a whole year... if it results in a top quality masterpice DVD like BaTB PE... Instead of waiting 6 months and ending up getting something rushed and half finished product... So far though I've enjoyed all PE's but I really think the quality has dropped a tat... Since Snow White, BaTB (and TLK)...
It seems that TLM has been rushed... and im sure if Disney had put quality before quantity we would have gotten the gift set that TLM truly deserves...

i'm not too sure that "being rushed" was the reason why disney stopped making the giftsets. i think it was jsut because not enough people were buying them. I think there should've been a better way to get people to buy the gift sets, like maybe offer a barebones single disc release for all the films and then a 2-disc edition with a multitude of special features in the giftset. i think that would've made people want to buy all the extra fluff packed into the giftsets.271286 wrote:It seems that TLM has been rushed... and im sure if Disney had put quality before quantity we would have gotten the gift set that TLM truly deserves...
I think i'm impartial to what comes after peter pan. The platinums i'm still waiting for at TLM, Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Sleeping Beauty. as you can tell, i'm not going to have a tremendous interest for about a year after Peter Pan. It's not that i don't enjoy 101 or Jungle Book, it's just that i'm not craving them the same way.
101 Dalmations > Peter Pan
That's my opinion. I never grew up with Peter Pan. I actually watched it late in my childhood. But 101 Dalmations was my staple. I watched that all the time. I was looking forward to it to be on DVD so badly. Now another year of waiting. And I always thought The Jungle Book was just okay. I want the dalmations!

I also wish that 101 Dalmations was coming out next year instead of Peter Pan. I like Peter Pan, but I have the DVD of that one, and I just don't like it enough to justify buying it a second time, even if it is a much better release (which I'm sure it will be). The only copy of 101 Dalmations is an old VHS I got so long ago I was too young to remember buying it, so it's pretty worn out. As far as Jungle Book is concerned, that is my second fave animated Disney movie (right behind Cinderella) and I can't wait to buy it since the Limited Issue had no extras
(that I can remember anyway, it's been a long time since I've watched it.)

I was really looking forward to 101 Dalmatians being released next year, the same as you.
If 101 Dalmatians was released next year the only movie I would have really looked forward to next would have been Pinocchio.
Now I'll have to wait another year or two.
After Pinocchio would be Sleeping Beauty, but it already has a great DVD. I see absolutely no reason to double dip.

Exactly what I was thinking about Sleeping Beauty there is no reason AT ALL for a double dip I dont think. the 2 disc edition was more than enough to satisfy anyone. It had a long making of, art galleries, trailers, commentary and more. why are they even thinking about putting that on the platinum line? if it wasnt already brought out than yea bring it on but its already out. they should choose something that they havnt release on a 2 disc set yet. like the rescuers or aristocrats. anything along those lines.

As grateful as I am that Peter Pan is getting the March 2007 slot, I'm not too upset that 101 Dalmatians is now pushed (likely) to March 2008. After all, in the original Platinum release, it would have come in October 2010.
Original Platinum Schedule (10 Platinums, 1 a year) - as per this page
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - October 2001

Cinderella - October 2007
The Little Mermaid - October 2008
Lady and the Tramp - October 2009
