I just bought this one at Target, where I can confirm that it is indeed $16.99. Some of the smaller inserts are loose in the packaging so it *might* sound like the disc itself is loose, but relax; mine sounded like that but all that happened was the advertisements fell out when the case was opened.

Anyway, I'm going to watch it now and will post my thoughts on it later tonight.

yeah, ummm I will be watching my other DVD instead of the new one! I honestly think this was a big WASTE of money!

I have to admit the trasfer is nicer than the other editon but the dots GOTTA GO! I could not enjoy the movie! It took my focus off the movie and I was counting the dots when they appeared on the screen! It was SO annoying. It felt like I was watching a dirty flip book that had marks and specs on it. Also, the grain was poorly taken off and you could still see a lot of it while watching the movie. It was very poorly done IMO.

The only thing good from this DVD is the new music video lol. The Pedia I didn't get a chance to see it but it looks very lame.

In other words "DO NOT upgrade" if you already own Dumbo! :)

I just got Dumbo and I am so HAPPY! I now have a DVD for the first 5 DACs except Pinocchio, the Gold Collection is OOP, I think, and I can't wait for the PE in 2008! I could have just been my TV, but some spots were quite grainy, especially when Mrs. Jumbo wrapped Dumbo up in his ears, and he went to sleep. Overall, I think that transfer is very acceptable, and much better than my VHS. I listened to the audio commentary, amen for that, and I really liked what Canemaker said. I haven't watched the bonus features, but I will get to that later tonight or tomorrow. I do agree with Aaron that the time it takes to load for the movie to start does take quite awhile, but I can just press the next scene button on my PS2 controller, and it will take me to the movie. I wish that this edition would have been a 2-disc DVD, but I am very satisfied with the Big Top Edition. I am very happy with my purchase. Overall = 9/10

I can't see upgrading a film I bought 5 years ago when I'm still waiting for Pinocchio!

hope someone can clear this up.. thanks.
I guess I'd hate a WS version of Dumbo - and none of these DVDs (or any other release of this title) should be. Widescreen isn't always the answer...

First slipcovers, second chapter inserts, and now: the case is white.

I think I'm the only one that is concerned over this. I know the Gold Collection cases were white as well, but I didn't think new releases would ever be put in a case color other than black. Now my collection will have Dumbo stick out from the mass of black. I guess it's time to order some black dvd cases from eBay. But did anyone else have a white case or is it just my city?

It isn't just your city. I have a white keepcase, but I don't mind. I actually like it white, it's different and sticks out, kind of like how Dumbo's Pink Elephants on Parade sticks out, and makes you wonder "huh?" The Fantasia Anthology have white keepcases, and it was a new release. I don't see anything wrong with a white keepcase. Are you keepcase racist?!?!?!?!?!

Yeah, I found that odd too. You can buy black keepcases at Best Buy.

Believe me, you're not. I absolutely cannot stand it when my DVD cases are anything other than black; it's one of my pet peeves. I hate it when they put their DVDs in white cases because then they stand out, which is what makes buying some Disney DVDs (particularly Pooh ones) a minor annoyance.

Since my parents couldn't care less about the DVDs they buy, I just switch my white case with one of my parents' movies that has a black case; they don't mind.

Once I do that, all is well within the universe again.

Wait, what do you not like about chapter inserts, Magicalwands?

I don't own the 60th Anniversary version, so I'm glad for this release. I'm happy the commentary was included after all. I wish some of the other features from the "60th" had been. I detest the white case. But I love the movie! :D

White Cases, hmm,

Does anyone have the ultimate list of Disney DVDs with white cases?

Not an ultimate list, but this is a good start.

Wow, I never looked at it that way. I guess I did kind of sound like I didn't like them.

"First slipcovers, second chapter inserts, and now: the case is white." is a list of complaints over the movies. The movies that don't have slipcovers and crappy inserts (LATT). Don't take it the wrong way, I love chapter inserts! But I could care less about it for dvds like Animaniacs that I would die for to be on dvd. :D (Of course I would love if it had one.)

Personally I would rather have a white keepcase than a black one. It's more atractive to have a white one IMO. But however, I do like my 2-Disc Sets to be in a black case with a slip cover so they stand out. The new Dumbo DVD sucks so I could careless. :)

I cannot stand the snapshut cases! They drive me nuts! I also hate that big ol' hole in the middle like it's hard to open up a DVD case?
Some moron must have complained to Disney, I can't open my DVD case HELP! So now we have to be careful with all the dust flying onto our bottom of the DVDs!

Luke wrote:There's minimal change to the framing. The 60th Anniversary Edition actually seems to show a few pixels more on all four sides.
That's too bad. In the frames I posted earlier, you should actually see a bubble inside of which the pink elephants are marching. Does anybody have an access to a theatrical print of Dumbo?

Obviously I won't buy the Big Top Edition. It's another instance of "edge censorship". Add TV set's overscan to it and you end up losing 30 % of the image... Whom are they saving the edges for? :(

At Disney, anything is possible.

For some reason they bother me too.

I just read the review and I have to say it was excellent! Great job Aaron! It actually convinced me to buy the dvd. I don't have Dumbo on dvd, but I remember a few months back her on U.D. a lot of members were saying that the "Big Top" edition is not looking good, and that the 65th aniversary was better. I guess many opinions changed lol. So I plan on picking up the dvd pretty soon. (I'm still really pissed that I bought Bambi2 too late and didnt get a slipcover....grrrr  ) So yea...I better get Dumbo before all the slipcovers are gone.

You can still get a slipcover from Disney, just simple call 1800-723-4763 and request one. I have this number programed into my cell phone LOL

I got my copy and it was the last one at Target (at that sale price). I was paranoid that if I didn't get it right there and then, the next batch that came into Target would be without the slip cover. The slipcover at least covers up the white case. I have not tried to get any more slip covers out of Disney since last year, if anyone tries it, please post back on your success on getting them sent to you.

They had this DVD in one of the games on 'The Price Is Right' where you have to guess the price. They go by the manufacturer's listed price - so I'm screaming $30 at the TV (the actual answer was $30), but the woman guessed $20 so she got it wrong.

I thought the extra advertising was a little cool - I wonder if they were approached by Disney or if the game show did it all on their own?
