Here is what I have so far:
Bambi: Love is a song "is the theme for bambi.

Alice In Wonderland: Alice In Wonderland (Main Title) is the theme because as Disney Kid stated its in the whole movie and normaly theme songs are.

Peter Pan: The Second Star To The Right "is the theme because it opens the movie and it tells the story on how to get to neverland.

Lady & the Tramp: Bella Notte "yes, this is the theme and very lovely"

101 Dalmatians: Dalmatian Plantation would be the theme because they are talking about 1000 dogs lol
Sword in the Stone: That's What Makes the World Go Round "this could be the theme or The main title, I have to look into this one.

The Jungle Book: My own home (The Jungle Book Theme) "clearly states (The jungle book theme in the soundtrack.

Aristocats: The Aristocats "is the theme because it tells you the story about them"
Robin Hood: Oo-De-Lalley "this is the theme because the whistle stomp is highly annoying and has no words to it lol"
The Rescuers: The Journey is the idle theme because it talks about penny saying, who will rescue me? the rescuers duh lol

Oliver & Co: Once Upon A Time In New York City is the theme because it talks about oliver lol
Great Mouse Detective: Good bye to soon would be idle because it talks about ratigan "trying" to win over the good guy.

The Lion King: Circle of life "is the theme because it tells the what the lion king is about and it starts and end with this song.

Return of Jafar: Forget About Love "this is the theme but it fits more in the beginning but oh well what can ya do.

Aladdin & King of Thieves: Out of Thin Air "this is def the theme because they tell about the whole story in this song lol"
Pocahontas II: Between Two Worlds "because it tells the story of them to falling in love between two worlds awww lol"
The Little Mermaid II: Hmm...I'd say For a Moment "That is the theme for the little mermaid II because it's just like part of your world lol"
Lady And The Tramp II: I'd say World Without Fences "I was thinking this to but I would say "I didn't know I could feel this way" because it is more of a theme for that movie then a world without fences. It's like Bella Notte for the first one lol.
For Cinderella II Put It Together (Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo) "Your right with this one"
Mulan II : Here Beside Me "This is the theme because I wannabe like other girls, was sung by the other three princess."
Lilo & Stitch 2: Always "because this song is played through out the film."

This is interesting. I've always thought of the Robin Hood theme song as "Oo-de-lally", but more because it's the only song I recognized from the movie except "Love"...but I knew all of the words to "Oo-de-lally" since I was very little. However, I think someone who connected with "Love" in a better way that I did would consider that its theme song.
...all in all I think there are a handful of movies with no clear cut theme song, or even if there is, they're widely unknown to the point that people recognize a different song.
It's like a child hearing "Be Our Guest" and immediately thinking of Beauty and the Beast, but not connecting the song that shares the movie's name. It may be the 'main theme song', but not to them.
Anyway, I'm not really submitting anything here since I'm pointing out the obvious, but I do think this is a great topic, I'm loving all of the different opinions.

Well, I agree with what ya said, but I want to know the MAIN theme song for each movie because I have all the soundtracks and want to make one CD with just theme songs. It's funny how Disney works, they think we are mind readers, one minute they tell u the theme song, the next we have to guess. I don't under stand that one, ya know?DisneyGirl wrote:This is interesting. I think, I am almost positive with all of them though.
OH YEAH, not bother calling Disney, because they have no clue either.

They told me to search online but they didn't give me any sites lol.

Disney for ya!

correct me if I'm wrong but isn't "Two Worlds" the theme song for Tarzan? I mean it does open and end the film. It fits better than "You'll be in my heart" I think that song is just the end credits like in Bother Bear, look through my eyes, and it was a hit than the other song. all though Two Wrolds wasn't released as a single. I think Two Worlds is the Tarzan theme.
Who agrees?

not necessarily, because Tarzan's End Credits are You'll Be In My Heart and Two Worlds. Also, The Lion King is Can You Feel The Love Tonight, and the theme is Circle Of Life, so you never know with Disney.Aladdin from Agrabah wrote:I agree that the 'two worlds' song is the theme song of Tarzan.
But in Little Mermaid II the "remix" of Part of your World is undoubtly the theme song. And I think that in EVERY movie, the song heared in the End Credits it's each movie's theme song.

Also, for The Little Mermaid II, For A Moment tells the story, so that would be the Idle theme.

I love all the Disney theme songs. "When You Wish Upon a Star" was one of theme songs from "Pinocchio" and also in two different fireworks shows like "Remember, Dreams Come True" at Disneyland and "Wishes!" at Disney World. But what about the Donald Duck song? I remember hearing the Donald Duck theme used in the opening to every Donald Duck cartoon from 1949 until 1956. My brother used to sing because we were playing around all the time. The Donald Duck song would be a great fit to the Disney theme songs.

Anyways, where's Make Mine Music, and The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad? I'd assume their titular songs are also the official theme songs as well...
Noticed The Black Cauldron and The Rescuers Down Under are missing as well. Then again, I don't really remember any recurring pieces of music or themes in either film...

But it's not about popularity, its about the actually Theme Disney picked for the movie and that's it. It says The Jungle Book - My Own Home (The Jungle Book Theme) on the soundtrack.Timon/Pumbaa fan wrote:The Bear Necessities is MUCH more popular than that song.BATBFan1 wrote: The Jungle Book - My Own Home (The Jungle Book Theme)

I think this thread is largely subjective. A few of the pop single versions of Disney songs (and other film songs) have (Theme from.....) or (Love Theme from...) or (...'s Song) attached to the official single title, which is a lot in part to tell people WHERE they've heard this song before. Personally, I do not believe a pop cover of a song performed in a film can be the 'official' theme because it's often remade in a way completey different from that of the in-film performance, which IMO is almost always many times more emotional/meaningful. The song's ability to work out of the context of a certain movie is cool, but what I care about watching a movie is does the song add something to this movie's story/characters/etc.? To me, "Reflection" sung by Mulan is completely different than the single by Christina Aguilera. Mulan's version actually conveys the insecurity and frustration that the melody and the lyrics work to portray; Christina's rendition is so in-your-face belty that it doesn't even feel connected to Mulan anymore.
Another thing is that many Disney films have multiple 'main' themes, and musical themes to go along with them, and not all of them are used in songs. For example, "A Whole New World" is definitely the LOVE theme from Aladdin, but there are many, many other VERY frequently recurring musical motifs in the score that are equally important and used just as frequently, if not moreso. The main theme of the score track "To Be Free" is one of the key musical ideas that repeats through the whole film, and the idea of freedom is one of the main 'subject' themes of the movie, too. Aladdin himself is often represented in the score by themes from "One Jump Ahead," some of Genie's moments are accompanied by themes from "Friend Like Me," and Jasmine and the Sultan both have musical themes throughout the score that denotes them, but neither are used in a song.
The main recurring musical themes of some of the movies aren't necessarily themes that have been used in songs, either; a lot of the major themes in The Lion King are used only in the score and aren't taken from the songs, and other films, like The Rescuers Down Under, have no songs, but still definitely have main themes in the music. (If you have the soundtrack, I personally feel that "Cody's Flight" would best work as a theme to this movie, or the end credits.)
Anyway...the point, I do have one. Not all of these have songs that state "OFFICIAL THEME," and even the ones that do are often for the purpose of Disney trying to market a movie a certain way. I don't think there is necessarily a right or wrong approach...look at what Disney says, yes. (I often think they pick the right SONG to try and 'sell' when they do a single, I just personally find the 'single' versions significantly inferior to the film versions.) But also go with your gut; a lot of these movies have many different thematic ideas and a few different 'signature' scenes with music to match them...what resonates with YOU? If you personally feel that "In a World of My Own" best summarizes what Alice in Wonderland is all about, why not use it? It's your CD; your insights are what count most. Music is about reaching people...what music reached YOU?

I TOTALLY under stand where you are coming from BUT there is however a theme that fits ALL Disney movies. I know the the Pop Version of Mulan erks you and it does sometimes to me but that is what Disney used for the theme. I saw the behind the scenes of Christina Agulera and Disney was talking about the THEME of Mulan and they picked her for it and that was her very first song she recorded to her career etc. I know what you mean about the theme to Alice in Wonderland and I thought it was In A World Of My Own, which it wasn't because I didn't actually take the time to hear the Main Title song and end credit song Disneykid was talking about. So that is the theme song to that. there are other theme songs that are in a movie but Disney doesn't make it as popular as they do with others. say for brother bear. No Way Out is the Theme and it says it on the soundtrack but Disney had a hit with Look Through My Eyes and I thought that was the theme but it wasnt. They also didnt add the video to no way out on the DVD which ticks me off lol but anyway. So do you see where I am getting at?Disney Princess Ariellen wrote:I think this thread is largely subjective. There is a Main Title, Theme Song, and End Credits song to a Disney animated film (Most of the time.)
the main title or end credit can be the theme song, or there is a song that wasnt in the film but is the theme.

Well the whole idea of a "theme song in a Disney classic" still confuses me, but I think you're trying to get a song that kinda represents each AC, correct?
Well in that case, "The Bear Necessities" represents TJB, MUCH more than "My Own Home". The Bear Necessities talks about the place Mowgli wants to live during most of the movie. My Own Home is just a song about water, which doesn't really represent the plot at all, it's just a way for the filmmakers to make Mowgli go to the man-village.

I understand what you are talking about with TJB but why would Disney put on The Jungle Book Soundtrack "My Own Home (The Jungle Book Theme)?
Why would the do that if it wasn't the theme song?!?!?!
Also, they did that with Brother Bear "No Way Out (Brother Bear's Theme)
and Aladdin with "A Whole New World (Aladdin's Theme)
They also, did that with a few more.
