Lady and the Tramp, no front flap?

Post by Salkat89 »

Does anyone know why Disney decided to abandoned the flap for the slipcase on the Lady and the Tramp platinum edition? I think its stupid that they did this because I thought it was cool that on the previous releases you could open up the flap and see whats where etc.

I really hope Disney doesnt do this with Little Mermaid, that DVD is one of the most anticipated DVD's and it should get the best treatment, including packaging.

Because it was as unnecessary as the slipcover itself?

I really like the idea of the slip-cover. They're very good at protecting the disc from shelf-wear.

I guess they just cheaped out on it. It's not a very big deal though. :)

I humbly suggest a class action on behalf of all Disney fans that felt cheated by the clear lack of direction from Disney.

The decision has left us flapless and alone in a cold, cold world.

It is a violation of the memory of Walt Disney, who always said: "I take great pride in the artistic development of slipcovers. Our DVDs are made to go through emotions which a few short years ago would have seemed impossible to secure with a round and shiny disc. Some of the art produced in the finished DVD slipcover of today is more graceful than anything possible for a human to do."

Not only that, but think of the children.

For shame, Disney, for SHAME. :headshake:

So does the actual CASE...

Slipcovers are like condoms, bound to tear if not handled correctly and protects less than one expects. The only difference is that condoms can be necessary at times, while slipcovers never are.

So you should only use slipcovers once, roll them from the base and pinch the top to create a reservoir tip for the DVDs?

I suppose some slipcovers are embossed, which is kind of like being ribbed...

Have I taken the analogy too far? :p

BAH!!! I meant "they protect the case from shelf-wear". I didn't actually mean "disc".

I'm sorry, but the idea of comparing slip-covers to condoms is just....too funny...

Not far enough I fear!

I think it must be stressed that unprotected DVDs can lead to teen DVD reproduction and unwanted illegal copying!

Also, when you've finished with the slipcover, you must never flush it! ;)

I expect that next time I go to Disneyland, there will be slipcover dispensers in all of the restroom, promoting safe DVD usage.

Because all of the classics that are based on a BOOK have the flap. Look at the recent Narnia 2-disc CE. It has a flap, too, because it was adapted from C. S. Lewis' BOOK.

Since it is based on the Hans Christian Andersen BOOK, it will more than likely have a flap.

The Lion King wasn't based on a book.

My LK DVD doesn't have a slipcover at all - I guess I was late.

Well Tarzan was based on a book, and it didn't get a flap. Explain that to me.

Treasure Planet was based on a book, and it got absolutely nothing.

And Hamlet wasn't really a book. It was a play. Same with Romeo and Juliet.

When Tarzan first came out (in the single disc and two-disc release), they didn't use slipcovers yet. and by the time it came back in its hackjob single-disc Not-So-Special-Edition, it had been assumed that slipcovers would have flaps only if it were a Platinum title, or a title that was based on a book (thus, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and Mary Poppins getting flaps, and oddly, the Lion King sequels just because it was a sequel to a platinum). And yet, Mulan, which came a few months before Mary Poppins, didn't get a flap. So basically in 2005 it was assumed/established/decided that only Platinums now would get flaps, which of course was proven wrong this year with Lady and the Tramp.

Treasure Planet's single-disc release came when only two-disc sets would get slipcovers, which is why it didn't get a slipcvoer. And ironically, when Brother Bear came out, it didn't get a slipcover either.

Hamlet may have not been a book, but The Lion King was a Platinum title, so it got a flap.

How sad is it that one who despises slipcovers so much knows so much about the buggers?

Technically, it was PLAY but then I'd just be mincing words.

Besides, wasn't it based on Kimba the White Lion  hee hee...

Trying to work out Disney DVD logic is like trying to stuff an elephant into a suitcase. Even if you do come up with something, there is no airport in the world that will let you take it on with you.

Ok, forget that analogy.

Actually, believe it or not, those "cheapquels" were based on plays as well!

The Lion King 1 1/2 was based on the Shakespearean play "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" while "The Lion Kings 2: Simba's Pride" was based on "Romeo and Juliet".
