What happened? Did you get an answer from the guy who's gonna make the TLM:PE cover? If he did not reply to your e-mail I guess he's just rude.
I can't wait anymore the cover should have been revealed by now!!! What on earth are they doing????
Oh, this is more than beautiful. This only can be described by the word SOPHISTICATED! I mean it's only Ariel and the ocean, really minimal, what is more beautiful and strong than this? It's my favourite TLM poster of all time, and I really would like to see that as a cover. But I guess they would prefer to have a more playful and colourful cover that would attract young children. Anyway, I insist that they are late in announcing the final PE cover.
I'm sure that whatever they come up with, will be good. I would LOVE to see the simple image of Ariel swimming up toward the surface of the ocean, because it is beautiful and breathtaking, but I don't believe that will happen.
Overall, I think that Disney has done a great job on the Platinum Edition covers.
I am thinking that the cover will be more in line with the rest of the Platinum releases and that the one with Ariel reaching for the surface may have a shot at the collectors set. The covers for the collector's set have always been a little more like this so it may have a chance (it is also one of my favorite images from the movie).
"I admit that in the past I've been a nasty. They weren't kidding when they called me, well, a witch"
-Ursula
"How sentimental. You know I haven't been this choked up since I got a hunk of moussaka caught in my throat."-Hades
I have to admitt that the 1997 TLM release has brought up some of the finest TLM artwork I 've ever seen. I mean, in 1989, there were only two types of posters and both of them showed the same thing: Ariel, Eric, all those fishy fellows, the palace, Triton and Ursula. Yeah, I would be really glad if they chose some of the 1997 material as a PE cover.

I agree with this. I LOVE the pic of Ariel alone, but doubt that it would be on the cover of a platinum. They always seem to attempt to get as many characters on there as possible. This would be beautiful for a collector's set

I don't quite agree. I think that both years (1989 & 1997) provided us with the best artworks of this movie. The 1989 poster is, in my opinion, the best cover or artwork for that matter, that they came up for TLM. It looks incredible and at the same time features all of the main characters. The 1998 VHS release however has the worst cover ever. It looks cheap and the colors are not as vibrant as the 1989 one. However, the 1997 poster that skyler posted looks just as good as the original cover and I would be really happy if they used it but as we know, that ain't gonna to be the case. Sadly.

I agree but I was speaking about the 1997 poster, that with Ariel holding the flower, Flounder and Sebastian standing next to her, and the palace and Triton as a background. And all this scenic is in Ursula's crystall ball, with a magnificent and colourful Ursula standing above and Flotsam and Jetsam to the right and left of the ball. That was what I was hoping to see as a cover. Something else that I like about that poster, except that its colours with no doubt vibrant, is that Ariel is in the center and not Ariel and Eric. I mean she's the protagonist, and she's that we all care about. And I am glad that they removed John Smith from the recent Pocahontas dvd cover- the movie is called Pocahontas.
Plus, I was shoked when I heard about that urban legend about a p...s hiding in the columns of the palace, on the 1989 VHS cover. And I was even more shocked when I saw the p...s on the cover of my own TLM VHS. It's annoying when something is there for about 16 years , and you find out its existence only just 2 months ago.

Yeah actually I've seen it. What I like in that site is that they say wether some rumors are real or not.
Anyway, in another thread-in this very forum- it was published by someone a possible cover of the new release dvd. It was a very small picture, with the new TLM logo, a new artwork for Ariel, and under the logo it was the usual 1997 poster- Ursula. I have a strong feeling that this is going to be the new cover. If only they would announce it!!!!
I personally believe the Japanese R2 DVD cover art would be a great choice. Aside from Flounder and Sebastain looking ''out of place'' and the background being simplistic, it's very beautiful, in my opinion.
Note: Japanese text reads as ''Little Mermaid'' without' 'The'' in place.
''She's safe, just like I promised. She's all set to marry Norrington, just like she promised. And you get to die for her, just like you promised. So we're all men of our word really... except for Elizabeth, who is in fact, a woman''
It's really nice, but IMO not fit for a PE.
Is this the japanese version of the 'Limited Issue" edition? If you own that dvd, I'd like you to tell me if there are any extras in it, because the original limited issue offers nothing but the movie itself, in a, not very pleasant I'd say, presentation.
Like the LE R1 DVD here, the Japanese R2 has zip, zero, nada extras. Also, the Japanese dub is the 1997 re-release. I have no clue what's been done with the 1991 dub (Japan originally released The Little Mermaid that year, two years afters its US release).

This is a matter!!!! Because in my country too, there are two dubs!!! The one is the one of 1989 and the other one is the 1997 dub. Thank God I own the 1989 edition, which is waaaaay better than the 1997 one. I don't understand what is the meaning of this!!! I think the Disney people insisted on this, but I don't know the reason.

It's the opposite in Japan. The 1991 dub is absolutely terrible! Ursula sounds very young and the voice actors don't match to the characters they play. Ariel (almost) sounds like she's having a seizure when singing in Ursula's cauldron. Although it would be interesting to see it appear on the SE (or PE, since Japanese is now promoting them that way).
Damn, why the hell can't October just come already!

I think the second picture there is beautiful. Perhaps not for a cover of a DVD but just in itself, I think it reflects the film so well, she's sitting in a human pose and it's very 'human' with none of the other characters looking very isolated.
