Actually it came in the mail a day early from BestBuy.com (along with a copy of The Fog SE WITHOUT the ticket to the remake they were supposed to send).Robin Hood wrote:How did you do that? Cinderella doesn't come out until tomorrow.buffalobill wrote:I got my copy of Cinderella today from bestbuy
I sure hope the coupon is right and that the Tarzan dvd is a 2 disc job.
15 gallon 7 pint blood donor as of 1-4-11. Done donating. Apparently having Cancer makes you kind of ineligible to donate.
So will the $3 off coupon found in the Disney DVD Insider for "Tarzan 2-Disc Special Edition" even be good for a single disc release? I can see it now... the idiot Wal-Mart checker refusing to accept the coupon because it is for the "2-disc" edition and not the "1-disc" edition in stores.
I just hope the stores discount this title to $15 or $16, which will bring the price down to $12 or $13 with the coupon, which is about what it will be worth. I won't pay $20 for this single disc, even with the coupon bringing the cost down to $17. That's still too much.

Again, since my movie store always puts out the movie releases too early (Against the law) I was able to pick up copies of the 1-DISC editions of both Tarzan and Emperor's New Groove today, as well as the new Batman Anthology. I have opened the two disney discs and can confirm that they both contain only one disc. However, Tarzan contains 2 audio tracks, the original 5.0 and the new 5.1, confusingly however, both are encoded on the disc as 5.1 tracks. That's pretty stupid. They have also implemented a new 3-D computer animated DISNEY DVD logo that I haven't seen before. (It may have been on other DVD's before in the past.) Tarzan's commentary is a port from the 2-disc edition, and it'ss animated menus are great. The video quality is great, just like the last two editions, and Tarzan's new cover art is beautiful. It was worth the purchase, but only if you didn't have the older editions.
Emperor's New Groove is practically the same disc with a new cover and new previews.
Tarzan Does contain very short sneak peeks of THE WILD and THE SHAGGY DOG from Movie Surfers, though!

Very good review.
Sucks that it is only 1 disc, but since I don't own it and luckily they did not change anything as far as the feature this is a title I have to get this week.

That's how I'm buying Tarzan. I've seen the Collector's Edition down at a Video Store near my Grammy's, but, it was $34.99..which I find totally over priced!Bill W wrote:So will the $3 off coupon found in the Disney DVD Insider for "Tarzan 2-Disc Special Edition" even be good for a single disc release? 34.99 is actually an excellent price for this long OOP DVD (4 years OOP) I think. The lowest price on amazon marketplace for it is actually 50 bucks!TheLittleMerman wrote:That's how I'm buying Tarzan. $34.99 is a STEAL for the Collector's Edition; retail was $39.99 and it tends to go for MUCH more than that now that it is OOP. Suppliment fans will ensure that its prices continue to go up in the wake of this new "SE" release as those (such as myself) who are disappointed in the lack of so much bonus material on this disc search for that set.
With that said, the movie is still what counts on any DVD and I want to own Tarzan, so I will be picking up the new disc this week because it is now the quickest and easiest way of obtaining the movie on DVD.

I'd kill to get a sealed & guaranteed not to be an ebay fake CE of Tarzan for $34.99. If you PM me with the name & phone number of the video store with it for sale I'll call them & buy it by Visa for $34.99 + shipping. I never get lucky enough to find oop dvds in any local stores.

Haven't been able to find the CE at a reasonable price so I'll be picking this up.
Anyone know any sales/deals for the SE? I was looking on Best Buy and in their weekly ad it says $16.99 and then you can save $6 instantly when you buy any two (out of TENG, Tarzan or Toy Story). I'm hoping it means that they are $16.99 and then you can save $6 on top of that, making them $14 each. I'd pick up a copy of Tarzan or Toy Story for my 7 year old nephew.
I saw target has it for $19.99 and couldn't find anything about it in the Circuit City ad.

Hmmm. Sounds exactly like what I just posted.mr jinx wrote:tarzan and the emperors new groove are both $16.99 at best buy and if you buy them both or one of them and toy story, you get an additioanl $6 off. so basically, 2 for $27.98. not too shabby.

I picked this one up today alongside Batman Begins and just got done watching it. I wanted it to be the 2-disc collector's edition port that we all had originally expected, simmilar to the Bug's Life CE reissue from 2003. Alas, of course, we all knew it wasn't going to be before release so I am not too shocked -- just throughly disappointed.
On the other hand, the movie now resides in my collection on DVD and, after five long years, I can finally retire my VHS tape from 2000. I love the movie dearly and have seen it many times, but not recently, so it was great to rediscover it in such a great presentational manner. while I know it is the same transfer that some people have owned since February 2000, I do have to say that the movie looks absolutely astonishing, and the soundtrack (I used the 5.0) thunders even in my basic setup (no home theater equiptment.) After so long of seeing it on VHS in pan and scan, it was revolutionary to see this in widescreen again -- the animation is so lush and eye-popping; even though it's only slightly wider than 1.33, it uses the 1.66 ratio to its fullest advantage. So, even though I am pissed off beyond all belief about the non-presence of several extensive already-prepared bonus features, it is not a complete disappointment; Disney did a nice job with the movie presentation at least, and I'm glad to own the disc if only for that. As the last of the rennisance movies, this is also the last one I can really say "I grew up on," and like all the other musicals of its time period it is close to my heart, so I'm glad to have that musical collection one step closer to completion (only The Little Mermaid left!) And it IS all about the movie, after all -- we don't collect extra features, as much; they are still, essentially, extras. So, looking on the positive side, I have the movie and it came back into print MUCH sooner than I expected it to (I had originally guessed that it would be 2007-2010 until we saw this on the market again.) So here it is, and I have it. Many other Disney fans who adopted DVD after the original releases became hard to find can now own it too. That at least is a good thing, even if we would all prefer that this be like the better release we know of from the past.
