My Widescreen and Fullscreen speech was a big hit

Post by Jack »

As some of you may remember, I made a post a while ago asking for suggestions on a topic for a speech in my speech class. Luke had the brilliant idea to do it on Widescreen and Fullscreen.

I did plenty of research in preperation for the speech. I covered the origins of both formats, the differences between Letterbox & Pan-And-Scan (I used pics to illustrate this), and explained aspect ratios. I was really nervous about perhaps being to technical, but everyone afterward really loved the information and said I did a fantastic job at keeping it understandable.

Heck, even in someone elses speech when they used a projector to show a computer screen, he said "This isn't exactly widescreen, but I hope it'll do."

So, anyway, I just wanted to give big props to Luke. That was the perfect topic for me and it was a bit hit with everyone. A giant thank you

Funny, I did the exact same thing in June. Got high marks for it and it seemed to be well recieved but my Star Wars Original Trilogy on DVD speech was much better on both fronts.

I was actaully considering doing my second speech on the OT on DVD, but I don't think the instructor would really like my doing two speeches on movies. I would've loved to hear your speech though - sounds like a great one.

Sure thang. I practiced it a billion times, so it shouldn't be a problem to type it out.

Plus, I can go into next class and say: "I demand extra credit for typing my speech out for the members of UltimateDisney.Com". :D

Sometimes a good example to use to describe the difference between Widescreen and Fullscreen is the painting of the Last Supper.

"Imagine in your mind the painting of the Last Supper. Now lop off 3 diners from the left side of the picture and 4 diners from the right and you have a Fullscreen presentation of the Last Supper!"

It works especially well if you actually have a picture of the painting in front of you!
