I guess you can find them at some online stores. I used to buy from dv-depot but I don't think they carry that anymore.

If anybody could let me as well know where to get those black cases that was used for the first 3 waves please let me know because I would want 3 of them.

I'm not happy with the presentation of they recent treasures.

I don't like how they have the banner missing, the cheap stick-on backing and the white cases. I don't care for the cheaper looking front too with the 'D' that isn't fully formed but the last wave had that same problem.

The content is the most important but to me packaging is important too. It would have been nice if they kept it consistant.

The content is great but I haven't spotted any easter eggs so it's like they didn't want to spend as much money on this wave of the treasures.

Is anyone else having trouble finding the treasures?? At three local Wal-Mart's, the treasures have not came there yet. Also at a local Borders, the Treasures have not arrived there yet. The only place I have seen the Treasures are at Sam's Club. Does anyone know what the dillemma is?

Unfortunately, gradually decreasing the quality of a particular type of release over time seems to be something Disney does well; and far too often. And sometimes, it's content that suffers as well.

The 2 or 3-disc Collectors series from a few years ago (ie. Tarzan, A Bug's Life, Dinosaur, Atlantis, etc.) seems to be one of the few exceptions to that rule. I'd still rather Disney had stuck to that format instead of bothering with the Platinum series at all; also releasing single-disc versions for families/children.

The Platinum series has, in my mind, lessened in quality since the Snow White and Beauty & the Beast releases (and even those two don't really match the treatments of the aforementioned Collector's Editions). Unfortunately, the extras on The Lion King and Aladdin have been signifacantly less engaging than those of their predecessors (at least, for adult collectors).[/i]

In any case, I'd suggest everyone (whether it's really an issue for you or not) should at least phone and e-mail Disney's marketing department, using the addresses listed on UltimateDisney.com in the "Pan & Scan DVDs to avoid" section.

Though it isn't the biggest issue for me either (content is always first), I'd still prefer to see a return to better packaging for future releases in the Treasures series. And even for those who write off the people complaining about the packaging changes as shallow, or valuing style of substance; remember there is something to be said for asthetics as well as content. I'm sure, given the choice, everyone who's posted in here would prefer to get better packaging at the same price; instead of paying the same price for Wave 4 only to recieve inferior packaging.

As far as I'm aware the MSRP for the Wave 4 releases hasn't gone down; so why should we just ignore the obvious fact that annoying cost-cutting measures (not to mention the change in colour of the dual-disc keep case, which couldn't make any difference in cost).

If Disney wants to cut costs in areas like this; they should do so in products where the quality won't be missed: namely, the releases targeted at children. Since the majority of the Treasures series is obviously not, the quality of the packaging should be restored in all future production waves.

I don't really see how releases such as "Sweetheart Stories" or "Starring Mickey Mouse", which are aimed at children, could have their quality dropped any further (and price wise, they are about half as much as Disney's "normal" releases in the first place).

As for the current Platinums, well, I'm no fan of the recent releases (especially the Lion King misfire) but you cannot deny large amounts of money have been spent on them - there's the Imax "restoration" (which never made profit in itself) plus shedloads of all new animations and voice overs, and while we may not like them and think they are not substantial enough, there's also hours of new interviews. In fact, I would say, Disney could make much more informative and adult discs by spending less money!

Bambi actually looks like it will be a decent release. Cynically I expect this is because the increased 2 disc schedule has reduced the amount of time Disney "creatives" can muck about with the actual disc's content.

But all this is off topic.

As for the Treasures, they always will be a niche product for Disney. Do the figures yourself based on the print runs and see for yourself. I think this is a blessing - the fact that they are so niche keeps all the kiddie crap off, and although sometimes the supplements aren't that great, its great we are getting them on each release - they could easily do none at all.

As for the tins etc, I don't really know why Disney decided to do them in the first place. I'm sure they are all regretting it now. Perhaps they really were worried about how the sets would sell?

Out of all the mainstream DVD releases, Walt Disney's Treasures are the closest in content and style and target audience to the old LD box sets, and some of those sold for over $100 when they were released.

It was interesting to me that I saw a giant corrugate display for the new wave of Treasures on Street Day in Wal-Mart. It featured the new wave, but also pictured each treasure from the last three waves as well and said "Collect Them All" or something like that.

On the day after Christmas I went to buy the new wave and every single retailer in my area was entirely sold out (except the Disney Store, which curiously never received a shipment of them). I was very surprised.

I just got mine in and am not happy about the white cases, either- why did they even bother changing them? Makes no sense to me. If they are making a collector's series, they should know collectors are anal about uniformity in their displays. Oh well, I'm very thankful for the content and love the disc art.

The problem with the white cases should be easy to correct for those interested. Just get black replacement cases.

To me, though, this seems a lot harder than it should be. Does anyone know of online stores that offer a useful selection of DVD cases?

I've never seen the same kind of case that the Treasures line as well as some other companies use in a store or online but I have seen cases that hold two DVDs. It's not the same though.

I've tried to search stores offline for single white cases so I could send it to a friend to replace their Aristocats case but I even find those hard to find. I've seen black, clear and even other colours but no white. I just went for black and they didn't mind. :)

The ones used for the Disney treasure lines are made by Alpha.

They can be purchased at Inetdvd.com

Yeah, I've noticed inetdvd a long time ago. But according to their shipping info page (click help > shipping):

Inetdvd.com Ships to the Following Countries:

United States
United Kingdom
Canada
Ireland
Australia
New Zealand
Japan

That's too bad for me.

Further down on the page, though, delivery time for Mexico is mentioned. Does that mean that other destinations would be acceptable? I'm far from sure about that. Would anyone know?

That site also says that they are out of stock on those cases. I wouldn't mind picking up a few of them myself. I got this Star Trek 6 movie DVD that REALLY sucks. BOTH discs are on one side, one disc overlaps the other one. Terrible case!

Inetdvd frequently gets cases back in stock, and you could email them to see if they ship outside of the places they list.

You can usually find them on eBay, and for those in the states, Blockbuster usually tosses DVD cases out ever Tuesday/Wednesday by the hundreds.

I'm sorry for bumping this thread, but now that I've got one of the Treasures from this wave, I think that I can really make a more valid response on "Disney being cheap" as opposed to seeing what people mean.

I love these classic shorts, so I quickly got a sealed Pluto DVD from someone in the Trade forum when I saw a "for sale" sign (I think that this is the fiftieth time I've repeated that  ), and suddenly remembered of people's disappointments in the packaging. I noticed that the case was white. I noticed that no band appeared. I noticed the flappy back. But I can safely confirm that I have no real qualms on the odd packaging. In fact, I was really happy about no band around the side of the tin. It takes ages to take everything apart with my On the Front Lines DVD, but with the Pluto DVD, I can just put the disc in more easily, which is good since I can imagine this set will keep me very busy for some time (I love it, by the way). As for the white cases...again, no qualms. Unless you line the sets up out of the tin, how are you going to notice the differences? Even then, what's the deal? I haven't seen many moan that the DVD cases for some Gold Collection and 2 Disc Sets don't line up together all that well, so why moan here?

I can understand, however, why some are annoyed by the blurb being on a flappy thing that wasn't properly glued on. True, it is somewhat annoying (I was being as delicate as possible with the thing), but even so, one could easily read the blurb on the actual DVD box if they wanted to. And the discs within the boxes are the more important thing; as some wise people have stated, they contain uncensored material unlike the DVDs of Tom and Jerry or Disney's own Make Mine Music.

I think, as well, that some of you are being rather ingrateful. Outside of North America, BVHE is pretty skimp on collector's stuff. Here in England, the Treasures line only surfaced last year (although that did mean that I was able to get Silly Symphonies and Mickey Mouse in Living Colour 1 easily), and we only got the cartoons, with no general publicity. I don't think that there's any chance that we'll get anymore Treasures since the social climers who power BVHE UK view collector's with disgust, thus making the line flop. Seriously, on street date for Chronological Donald and Living Colour 2, I was in a big city shopping and only saw the sets once in one big store. There are going to be some people who won't be able to fulfill their wish list; up until last December before I discovered the magic of DVD ROM or we got a multi-region TV (we had the R0 DVD player, yet our old TV was crap and played R1 material in black and white :( ), I was depressed by not having the ability to get what I wanted (good Region 1 DVDs). People moaning here will be disheartaning to some, you know. No wonder that I originally said "I cringed".

Again, sorry for the bump. Like I said, you can get around the flaws, and the situation could be worse; we could have nothing at all, or worse, we could all have gotten Raven music videos or Belle's Magical World for a set. :P

I'm personally mostly interested in the cartoons/shows themselves. The tins, booklets, and etc are nice and all but in the end, all I really care about is the cartoons. Heck, I bought Disneyland USA recently from Amazon and it came with no tin and the Davey Crocket booklet. Did I care? Not really. I still got the DisneyLand USA DVDs and, IMO, that is the most important thing.

These are cartoons/shows that you used to be able to see on Disney channel all the time. Now that the Disney channel has gone the way of the teenie bopper shows, I have only these treasures albums to enjoy.

IMO the treasures series is the best thing that Disney has done in years (besides Pixar stuff of course). :)

WD Treasures Tins/Disks

Post by swong »

having all 14 in tins, I was surprised to see what people had noticed. I personally did not notice most of the differences. I noticed immedatally that the backing was messed up by the stupid anti-theft device, removed that, and used thinly spreadable archivle glue to reatach the back.
I didn't even notice the lack of SN's on the front.
oh well
also, I am missing a few of the mini-posters included with the disks, so if anyone has an extra, or knows where to get replacements
btw, I am in the DMC, and have registered all 14
