Let us tell Disney what we think about wave 4

Post by karlsen »

Last year Disney descided to not print the numbers on the tins and we all understood why, but now they have done several other incredible things to the tins:

* The DVDbox is in white not black as the others, so they look diffrent when placed outside the tin.
* The blue ribon around the box is missing
* The information on the tin is now only glued on and looks realy bad.

This is a serie for the serious collectors and this is a step in the face for us. Disney do know that it will sell either way so they cut costs where they can but this is realy not the way to do it.

I sugest that everybody that buys one or more of these sets take action and contacts Disney about this and tell them that we feel that we get a lesser product then usual. Those of you that are in contact with Leonard Maltin should also tell him because he must be one of those persons with most influence on these titles.

I would ask them to do a proper job on the tins or just simply remove them altogether. I think the point of having tins disappeared when they stopped printing the numbers on them. Last year they used a thinner metal too, so all mine ended up more or less dented in the mail.

And to change the keepcases to white is just plain wierd?

But I would also tell them that the Treasure DVD's are THE most anticipated release every year for me. I simply love them! I would still buy them if they came in snapcases without any coverart (you know the paper one). It's the content I love, not the wrapping. (I outgrew that after my second birthday...)

I agree 100% with Karlsen -

we have to contact Leonard Maltin to communicate our dissatisfaction
with those new "tins".

Has anybody the possibility to create those blue revenue seals (ribons?)
including the correct labeling (the complete Pluto) etc., maybe using Photoshop...?

But let us all remember that Maltin has nothing to do with this bad desision and he must be as supriced as us. My point is only to let him know that lots of people dislike this so he can take it with him on his next meeting with the folks at Disney.

If we do something we should all do it together, you know, like a petition, with all are signatures.

I think that is a great idea, but that should not stop us from calling Disney.

We have several times heard that stupid things like foolscreen are a result of people calling Disney so maybee we can do something good by calling.

I'd like to know how the hell I can get my back cover slips to stick to the tins permanently!!!

Should I try using rubber cement or will that make a mess of the tins?

I don't want to have repurchase these but the back covers are really frustrating me!

I'm really excited about the content, but the sloppy packaging on these new waves is a huge dissapointment... I'm considering tossing out my tins altogether and just sticking with the keepcases.

Especially changing the keepcase to white? :?

What is Disney thinking?

Actually, rubber cement would be the best way to do it. Most people misuse rubber cement, though. To use it properly, cover the back of the paper with rubber cement (as evenly as possible), and then cover the back of the tin with rubber cement (as evenly as possible). After you've done that, THEN carefully place the slip onto the tin. If you have some still left on the tin that isn't covered by the slip, just roll the excess off with your fingers.

Personally, I'll probably just put the paper in the tin for safekeeping. I took the cardboard band off of the tin and placed in neatly inside the case with the booklet.

I've been thinking about that too, but with so many people looking for them, I thought I'd better keep them for authenticity.

Well, black keepcases are easy to buy. Just replace those and you are set.

Personally, I'd call Disney rather than sign some pointless online petition. They don't care about those.

Disk set quality

Post by Chucker »

I too am VERY disappointed with the quality of these sets. I really have a strong vibe that there have been a couple of Disney managers that have seen the sets and thought : " Oh my god did manufacturing screw up"

I get a sense that this was an unintended mistake. You dont make three years of Treasures sets and ship the 4th set without the uniform blue band or the disk backing with GLUE. :x

Also, Anybody else know if the other sets were made in Mexico like these were?

I am totally thrilled about the content though and never dreamed that I would have all the Mickey shorts in my collection.

I don't know. It seems pretty intentional that they put the information from the bands on the stickers, and it just so happens that the man whose name once was on the bands no longer holds a major position at the Walt Disney Company.

Fortunately, my back slip seems quite secure on the case. It's not printed on, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Welcome to the forum, Chucker! Nice to have another Minnesotan around! :eye:

I'm about ready to go pick up my copies, I hope it isn't as bad as I am reading here. I am most interested in the content, but cheap packaging at this price is not cool, especially when it deviates from the rest of the series. Hrumph.

dethi's mini package review :P

Post by deathie mouse »

Ok, I got my tins. (Mickey in BW2 was difficult to find in my area, but I got it.)

I can't believe that 7 months ago i only had 2 treasures and now I have 14 :)

I posted a screen cap from the Pluto one on the Press Release topic in case anyone that hasn't gotten it yet wants to go lookee.

Anyway, about the packageing... Well I don't think the unprinted backs are a last minute glitch. As i openned them and saw the carboards glued to them I realized that the ONLY thing limited/unique about this tin editions is the front cover. From now on all the back tin covers can be made from the same current or any future manufacturing run, So that's a cost cutting measure if I ever saw one. No need to print and manufacture limited unique backs for each wave anymore. Same as the front tin covers loosing the numbering I guess. So now they order a big batch of bare backs and fronts and only have to make limited runs printings of the fronts..

About the cheap gluing:
AAAAAgghh.

On my Pluto it's glued on the top so the cardboard flaps like a dog door lid
On my Mickey Mouse Club it aparently was glued at a SINGLE point in the middle and since the rubber? glue is kind of elastic i can play with the carboard thing like if it was a stering wheel :P it's that wobbly.
Oh and my MMClub one apparent had a drop of glue fall on the front (i vaporized it with my blueviolet vision)
The mickey mouse in BW2 was simirlarly glued but crooked too much (all weren't centered very well but thiss one was so bad i tried to straighten it and it fell off :P It's back on perfectly centered now i did a better job at that Thank You Very Much :P
And horror of horrors! those cardboard back covers had the electromagnetic tag under them so they don't lie flush! (And these are glued in their usual 120% streghth :/ have to be careful to pry them out!

About the white plastic, it looks nice but of course now it will look out of place with the other 11 treasures.. (I display the treasures out of their tin cans so i can see the colorful swatch on their spine and of course easier access.) And now there will be this 3 that are white among the 14.... I've been thinking of temporarlily swapping the white pluto with the regular one from mickey mouse in b/w vol 1, kind of having MM in BW 1 , Mickey Mouse in BW 2 and the Mickey Mouese Club with the white plastic since they are almost 100% black and white stuff, trying to make some "sense" into this :P, but then when wave 5 hits that idea will not work :P (unless they switch back to the original dark plastic, but mmm what aboutSS2? I guess i'll eventually buy new slipcases to make them all uniform.....

I must comment that the color choices of the swatches look very handsome in all their primary colour chromacity :P and the white slipcase looks well with it. That cyanblue chosen for Pluto is very yummy, a saturated color that modern monitors can't reproduce

The 3 mini artwoks are cool; poster for Bone Trouble, storyboard pencil sketch reproduction from MM short Shanghaied, and the cover artwork for the Mickey Mouse March sheet music folio which looks very retro :)

As i mentioned in the Press Release topic, on the tin itself of the Pluto Treasure nowhere it is mentioned it is Volume 1, it just mentions the years, so if it wasn't for the red sticker glued on the outer shrinkwrap it would look as it it was like the Complete Goofy to the casual buyer. (It says it's Volume 1 on the cardboard on the back and on the DVD case cover (And in there Volume 1 REPLACES the years, so mmm each cover is kinda "incomplete" :P)

Btw, my Pluto certificate number is in the 12,000's i think thats my lowest i've got!
( i ussually get them in the 100,000's :P)

I miss Roy's name on these too :(

Well that's my "review" of the packaging :P
If cutting costs was done to keep the series going well then I guess it's acceptable cus THE CONTENT is what's important.. but it's kind of sloppy even the way the back covers were glued on etc. so i hope we're not getting this lesser presentations just to increase the profit margins :(

Please bear in mind that this complains/opinions on the packaging, not the contents, as for example, i have 5 treasures in their tinless versions on the Cotsco box set.. So as long as the contents are in fine form well, that's the real treasure.

Btw welconme to the forun Chucker! :) Where does it say these were done in México? i looked for the usual mexico sticker when i read your post.. all i could find was Printed in USA

Got em today. The packaging is worst than I thought. The back is killing me, I just took it off and stuck it inside the tin. Then the security tags, WHAT THE HECK?????? first they put them on the blue bands, now this? Why not put them iside the keepcase or something??? The lack of a blue band, they just look wrong next to each other, no spine. I would call disney but probably an operator is going to ansewr who is gonna have no clue about what I'm talking about.

HELP, someone give me Maltins email adress please, i can't find it on the site.
