I know there are gonna be complaints about all of Donald's wartime cartoons being repeated (like I am), but the way I look at it, this will probably be the only way some people will see these cartoons, as Disney on the Front Lines will not be released outside continental North America (which is the reason why I bought this set.)
I am looking forward to getting TCD volume 2 and the Disney Rarities sets though.
Like last year, a family member wants me to buy a set (this time, it's the Spin and Marty collection), but I wont be getting Elfeco Baca and the Swamp Fox (that is one of two Treasurs I haven't bought yet, the other being Disneyland U.S.A.)

Exactly. And even with that, it was quite a poor collection (only 28 cartoons afaik). They could really have made just one Pluto volume, as they did with Goofy. No good trend: Less cartoons, cheaper and cheaper packaging (I wonder how it will be this wave...).Prince Phillip wrote:Wasn't this done with the Pluto set? I have not actually opened mine yet, but I thought I remembered people saying that all the Pluto cartoons could have easily fit onto one set but that they douple dipped a lot of cartoons from the Micket sets in order to break up Pluto into 2 volumes...
Hmmm, which year is it going to be when we can have all Donald and Goofy cartoons on Disney DVD? Maybe 2008?Very disappointing. I also have the feeling that they are going to release the Donald sets every other year, so expects the treasures series to span a while... Hopefully they'll release the 2nd vol of Silly Symphonies soon!

I think the reason for this is that one should have the opportunity to get all cartoons of a Disney character like Donald without having to buy another collection like "Front Lines". Well, in case of Pluto, at least all colored cartoons will be available via the 2 Pluto Collections.blaing wrote:I know there are gonna be complaints about all of Donald's wartime cartoons being repeated (like I am), but the way I look at it, this will probably be the only way some people will see these cartoons, as Disney on the Front Lines will not be released outside continental North America (which is the reason why I bought this set.)
B/W-cartoons with Pluto can only be found on the two Mickey Mouse B/W volumes.
About the fact that some collections will not be released outside continental North America: Shipping overseas has always been an option, hasn't it?

And often it is necessary to do so: In Europe, for example, none of the collections "Pluto", "Goofy" and "Mickey Mouse B/W 1/ & 2" seems to have been released. So, as a european fan of these cartoons, you don't really have a choice.

I'd be willing to lay a wager that we get Donald Vol 3 and Pluto Vol 2 in 2006 and Donald 4 and Silly Symphonies 2 in 2007, which would then have pretty much covered the entire canon.Mungle wrote:Hmmm, which year is it going to be when we can have all Donald and Goofy cartoons on Disney DVD? I hope so. And, indeed, I meant Pluto (not Goofy) of courseMK Sharp wrote:I'd be willing to lay a wager that we get Donald Vol 3 and Pluto Vol 2 in 2006 and Donald 4 and Silly Symphonies 2 in 2007, which would then have pretty much covered the entire canon.Mungle wrote:Hmmm, which year is it going to be when we can have all Donald and Goofy cartoons on Disney DVD? At this moment, I have no plans to get the Elfego Baca/Swamp Fox set. It would be the first Treasures set that I would not have bought. I have seen these shows on the Disney Channel and they never interested me. However, I will look closely at what extras are on this set and I might buy the set for the extras.blaing wrote:I wont be getting Elfeco Baca and the Swamp Fox (that is one of two Treasurs I haven't bought yet, the other being Disneyland U.S.A.)

do you think that they will release the zorro series on a future disney treasures wave? I sure hope so. I never watched swamp fox, davey crocket, or any of the other live action series that disney put out, but I did love the zorro series as a kid. I would buy that set in a heart beat.
I'm also really looking forward to the chronological donald vol 2 and the rarities DVD.

I totally agree with this.... I expect this is what will happen and indeed hope it is the case.MK Sharp wrote: I'd be willing to lay a wager that we get Donald Vol 3 and Pluto Vol 2 in 2006 and Donald 4 and Silly Symphonies 2 in 2007, which would then have pretty much covered the entire canon.
With Disney also appearing to want to release all platinums etc before Blue-ray in 2008, it makes sense for Donald's 4th volume to be finished in December 2007.
I however don't want to wait over 2 years too see the Humphrey and Ranger Woodlore shorts from the mid 50's... They had better release a Cartoon Classics set before then !
I beginning to doubt whether we'll ever see any more Treasures released outside of NA. Still, with pre-order discounts and a favourable exchange rate, it often works out much the same price as buying locally, so there's hardly any point waiting.blaing wrote:but the way I look at it, this will probably be the only way some people will see these cartoons, as Disney on the Front Lines will not be released outside continental North America (which is the reason why I bought this set.)

I could possibly imagine that the next volumes of the Chronological Donald will be released outside of NA. But nevertheless, you should prefer the American releases, because they are the earliest of all and you won't have to worry about material that might have been deleted as it happened to the Mickey Mouse Cartoon "Runaway Brain", which is missing on many European versions of "Mickey Mouse in Living Color Vol. 2".MK Sharp wrote:I beginning to doubt whether we'll ever see any more Treasures released outside of NA. I could see 'Zorro' being released as a Treasures subject, maybe being partnered with 'Dr. Syn, alias the Scarecrow' as another volume of "Legendary Heroes."
I read that 'Dr. Syn' was delayed because Disney was trying to locate a portion of (original?) footage. I think this came from a fan (Tom Hering) site, which -- I'm sorry to say -- is not active at this time.
Mr. Hering: I hope you can post your Dr. Syn site once again!
What I'd like to see as a Treasures volume is one with Christmas TV specials aired in the past. And.... one featuring vintage rides no longer found/original versions at the theme parks (Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, If You Had Wings).
