Treasures Wave 5: my phone conversation w/Disney Video

Post by Mouseketodd »

I called Disney Video today, Feb. 16, to make requests for more (1955) Mickey Mouse Club, MMC Serials, So Dear to My Heart, Toby Tyler, Song of the South and Dr. Syn. After telling me one of the Treasure subjects for Wave 5, I asked if this operator could provide more info. The operator listed these four:

- Disney Rarities
- Legendary Heroes
- Spin and Marty
- Chronological Donald Vol. 2

There was no additional info provided: No contents, no release date, and nothing regarding whether or not Donald #2 would complete the DD collection.

I'll potentially be buying all four!

Erm, what's "Spin and Marty"? :?

Anyway, nice to now that "Disney Rarities" is coming out. Perhaps one of the Rarities will be a certain melody from the south...

I think Disney rariteies is likely to be made up of shorts as Disney would probably and have in the past wanted at least 2 cartoon volumes per wave!

But Spin and Marty! I don't think I could stomach a whole volume!

Hang on I've just thought, weren't there something like 20 episodes of Spin and Marty? Would they all fit on 2 DVDs? :?

What's "Spin and Marty?"

Post by Mouseketodd »

"Spin and Marty" was a serial shown on the 1950s Mickey Mouse Club. There may have been 2 or 3 different stories -- distinct stories with episodes.

Others more knowledgeable can tell more about it.

I'm glad this Treasure is coming!

In that case I'll learn to love it? :P

From what I can make out Series 1 had 25 episodes whi are:

The Adventures of Spin and Marty

1) An Introduction
2) The Triple R
3) The Misfit
4) The White Stallion
5) Froggy Day
6) The Battle
7) A Surprise Decision
8) Homesick
9) Logan's Lesson
10) The Chase
11) Ride-'Em Cowboy
12) The Snipe Hunt
13) The Secret Ride
14) Tragedy
15) Perkin's Decision
16) Tossing the Calf
17) Rope Artist
18) Nothing Happens on a Sunday
19) Perkins and the Boar
20) The Runaway
21) Haunted Valley
22) The Live Ghost
23) The Big Rodeo
24) Off on the Wrong Foot
25) Sky Rocket's Trick
26) The Last Campfire

I'm not aure how long each one ran for so I suppose it could be conceivable they could be squeezed on to 2 discs, espescially being black and white!

There were three Spin and Marty adventures. I wonder if they mean to include all of them????

Perhaps the Disney rarities are the shorts mentioned like "Donald in Mathmagic Land" and "Ben and Me"?

20-some episodes....

Post by Mouseketodd »

All episodes might fit.... I don't know how long each episode was, but they were a part of the hour-long show of the Mickey Mouse Club.... whaddya think, 15 minutes long each? String them all together, and hopefully they all fit in one product!

I don't know about the Spin and Marty. What happened to True Life Adventures? I think I would rather see that as opposed to Spin and Marty. But, I think Spin and Marty have a loyal fan base out there.

Donald Duck would definately not finish with a second volume. I believe there are more DD cartoons than there are MM and the original math indicated five volumes or maybe four if they went light on the extras.

What are "legendary heros?" I know you guys have mentioned Zorro, so that would mean that two of the treasures are live-action "Disneyland" pieces?
I'm looking forward to finding out the contents of Disney Rarities.

No, this definitely would not complete the donald duck set. There are approximately 128 donald duck shorts if you don't count certain special things so this will take probably atleast another 3 or 4 treasures besides the first one from May 04.

Well, I'm glad to hear that DD volume 2 will be released. Looking forward to that collection. Out of the other 3, the only other one I am kinda looking forward to is the Disney Rareties. However, to truly anticipate it, I would need to know what was on it
Cheers!

Disney Rarities? Sounds promising!

I've seen some Spin and Marty, but I'd much prefer True Life Adventures, which would probably have Perri included!

Yeah, I know, I keep mentioning Perri. But I can't help it! I want that on DVD more than any other film at this point. :(

I'm sort of disappointed. I was looking forward to a True Life Adventure set. I'm glad about another Donald Duck treasure set though although I really can't wait until volume three.

The rarities treasure sounds mysterious and interesting. :)

Thanks a lot for posting!

As I said in another topic, I'm not that interested in stuff like "Spin and Marty" and "Efelgo Baca" (although I'm a "Zorro" fan and enjoy the "Davy Crockett" Treasure), so I would much rather if they decided to release the True-Life Adventures or more Silly Symphonies instead. Or even better, a second volume of "Disneyland USA".
But as a good fan I'm going to get them all, if not only for completeness sake. Donald 2 and Disney Rarities sound really promissing, though.

I think (almost certain) Disney may be holding the "True-Life Adventures" release because of Roy Disney.

How in heck does any Disney fan not know Spin and Marty???

Okay, okay. It was a serial that ran on the Mickey Mouse Club. It starred Tim Considine and some other kid and I think Annette was in some of them. Each episode can't have been more than about 8 or 9 minutes long, if that. It's in Black and white and they're all at this sort of dude ranch for little kids called the Triple R or the Circle K or I don't know, I don't know. I'm not going to buy it.

Thanks for the info, 3PO! We certainly won't tell anyone to "shut him up, or shut him down!" anytime soon! :D

If this turns out to be accurate, I'm very pleased with what they've decided to go with for Wave 5 - aside from Donald, they're going in a new direction unlike what we've seen before. Spin & Marty is a great peice of Disney nostalgia, and features the incomprable Tommy Kirk! Disney Rarities & Legends sounds like it'll offer an opertunity to present less well-known stuff. I'm quite excited.
