well, just something i've noticed... there seems to be a certain kind of formula for the PE cover art. I've noticed that in the past three (The Lion King, Aladdin, and Bambi) and now even Cinderella. It looks like the title will be centered, a main character or two will be above the title, and more insignificant characters are below. This design even goes on to most of the special editions now too. i'm guessing it's to make them all look slightly more iniform. So i'm just gonna guess that The Little Mermaid's cover art would follow this format. I think that Ariel and maybe Eric will be above the centered title, then ursula in one corner below the title with her eels and king triton in the other with flounder and sebastian. possibly a revised castle would be centered between the two, or possibly in the background of the title which i think could look cool. To me it seems slightly unimaginative, but i could easily see Disney releasing it that way.

I'm glad this guy is doing the cover art. I mean its someone who actually helped design Ariel design the DVD cover. Hopefully he won't do what many others are like and make it appeal more to children rather than all age groups.
Disneykid wrote:Nice find, RB! I think this picture in particular is really cool. It's sort of a peek at what The Wizard of Oz could've looked like if it were the first Disney animated film. I like this guy's artwork very much. He does a good job at keeping the characters on-model, even someone as difficult to draw as Snow White. I trust his Little Mermaid cover will be fantastic.
I was just about to post about this pic. It's really awesome and is now my desktop wallpaper. Lol, it reminds me of the Brady Bunch tv movie documentary when the Brady kids met the Partridge family kids and they were all like "My family is better than your family!" Here it's like "My little people are better than your little people!"

The Little Mermaid DVD Coverart

Post by Disney Duster »

I really am glad that a guy who helped design Ariel will be doing the coverart, too. I wonder if he'll be working on The Little Mermaid III at all? I doubt it since he seems to be more into drawing product art instead of feature art.

I really do LOVE that scene where Ariel's voice is taken away. The special effects are AWESOME! The bubbling cauldron, the swirling light, the giant green hands! I think it was genius to make Ariel's voice a glowing light...I think the whole scene was genius... But I really don't think any particuliar scene is good as a cover, especially that scene. Something I could see is Ariel above maybe picking petals off a flower like in the movie, then Ursula at the bottom with the seashell and the voice capturing going on, then King Triton maybe aiming his trident to shoot at the title or something, and maybe Prince Eric could be peering down into the water on a boat above. Someday maybe I'll draw a pic of what I mean and post it.

The idea singerguy has is probably right! But I couldn't see both Ariel and Eric together at the top, unless Ariel's gazing up and Eric's looking down from a boat above the waves in teh background sort of, as I suggested.

And that pic of Snow White meets The Wizard of Oz is great!

How neat!!! I'd love to see a coverart like this!! Triton pointing at the title making it a shiny gold or something!!! Wow!
I'm also looking forward to see how "The Little Mermaid TRILOGY" coverart is going to be like!! But of course that depends on the Little Mermaid 3 plot and characters. If I only knew what the Disney people have in mind about TLM 3's plot!!!!1
