I do the same thing, Pals. :thumb:

Brilliant review! I wnat this even more now! It's sad news that there are edits, however in all honesty it's a worry that I've had all along, I mean given the Muppet show's nature, there were bound to be those odd segments for which the rights could not be obtained, and that seems to be the case here. It's still a must buy though.

Great review! I won't be getting it, but a rent will be inevitable!

Man, that was a good review! soo good, it's placed me in a dilemma!

Cuz at first, I wanted this. Then I didn't with the edits. But I waited for the review...and :headshake:

Then again, I'm hearing MMP say, "you should save up to buy a house."

But yea, thanks for the pics and review, Luke. :kermit:

Wow, a really spectacular review, Luke. My misgivings have more or less been dissolved. I can live with those few edits, and perhaps we should be thankful that it didn't happen on more than five episodes. Can't wait for this to arrive!

I LOVED the UD review Luke. But the muppet central review says the the Pitch Reel has been cut by removing the end scene. Also the closing scene of the show has been changed.

Terrific review Luke! Definatly the best UD review of the year so far(it should definatly get nominated for a Golden Mickey next year on the UD awards)! While it's a shame to hear that 5 episodes have been edited :( , it still looks like a promising DVD set. I hope I can get it! :kermit:

Does anyone think it possible that Season Two might be released at or around the same time as the 4 Special Edition movies? I think it seems a little too soon, but then didn't BMW S1 & S2 come in August and November? We've only just heard about the movies, and it would be a good tie-in, so I suppose it's a possibility.

I don't think it will be quite that soon, since I think they'd already say something about it in the set, if it were. But I wouldn't be surprised if it came around February or March of next year. That would mean there'd likely be a trailer for that on the Muppet movie SEs.

Why was Muppets Season 1 edited?

Post by Mouseketodd »

I'm disappointed to learn that some sketches/numbers have been edited out of The Muppet Show, Season 1.

Does anyone have firsthand knowledge about just what the edited content involved?

I wondered if maybe something deemed politically-incorrect was involved... some things that made Disney or Henson associates uncomfortable releasing to the public, especially a product that introduces the Muppet library to new generations.

Does anyone out there know?

The most likely reason is because of musical rights. Either the rightsholders were asking too much money for their song to be included, or it's even possible they flat out refused to give permission for it to be released on home video (this is sometimes done if there are ongoing disputes over rights with other studios to inflate their case)

I've merged this with the existing Muppet Show S1 thread.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

So was Kermit's "What the Hell is that?" remark also cut because of music right issues?
